It's funny because apparently when the series started, Patrick Stewart was annoyed by how the rest of the cast would goof off and joke around in between takes, and sometimes even goof around DURING takes. At first, he had only intended on doing the show for a season or two, because he had assumed it would be a flop. He was a serious Shakespearean ACT-OR, and this was a silly sci-fi show "for children", he thought. He just wanted to do the work efficiently, quickly and competently, make some Hollywood money, and go home to England and get back to "real acting". The rest of the cast could tell he thought they weren't very professional, and although they still goofed around and enjoyed themselves, they do say that his sense of professionalism inspired them to bring their A-game, acting-wise. But the show didn't flop. It kept going. And the longer he stayed in the role, the more he started to enjoy himself. He was getting properly dramatic and comedic scenes he could really dig his teeth into! He was acting as a hard-boiled detective, and as Robin Hood, and matching wits against Professor Moriarty! He was re-enacting Room 101 from 1984! He was delivering passionate speeches about the nature of sentience, and the rule of law! He was the elder statesman! He was the romantic lead! The show was giving him everything an actor could ask for! And so after a season or two, he started goofing around with the rest of the cast. And he says that he regrets that he didn't let his hair down (so to speak) and embrace the fun side of the job earlier.

A fantastic finale. And a beauty of a final scene. These actors that comprised the core crew, Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, Brent Spiner, Gates McFadden, Michael Dorn, LeVar Burton, and Marina Sirtis, were magic together. It’s great to know that the friendship they all have on-screen is the same in real life. Getting teary over it? Nothing cheesy or cliche about that whatsoever, Cassie!

It is the best, and quite entertaining, although I think they destroyed the whole concept of the Borg by centralizing it -- going against the series. I won't complain much since it made a fun movie. There's also a good but totally separate episode called First Contact that's worth watching.

This show saved me growing up. I didn't grow up in the best family. Lots of sadness/abuse. I'd stay up until like 2 A.M. on Sunday morning to catch the show. Wasn't popular enough in my area for a daytime slot. I had to turn the volume down almost all the way to keep from getting caught and shoved a towel under my door to block the light from the TV. The credits rolled on the last episode and I just started bawling. I think I was about 14. I needed that show and I had four more years to get through that part of my life without it. TNG will always hold a special place in my heart. Picard is great too. ❤️

Ok, I finally get it. The whole thing was a test ordered by Q's Continuum. He just helped out bc he had a soft spot for Jean Luc. I always thought it was kind of a paradox in that Q caused it. But he didn't. He was following orders, yet providing an assist.

You can't pretend seasons don't exist, star trek Picard is awful and completely ruins the mythology of Star Trek. I went to a con in Chicago many years ago. Patrick Stewart and John de Lancie were guests. During Stewart's Q&A, a little boy asked if he could recite some Shakespeare. Stewart said he would at the end of the Q&A. All of a sudden, he started in on the "to be or not to be" soliloquy from Hamlet. At the end, the boy thanked him, to which Stewart said it was he who should thank the boy-until then, he wasn't sure if he could remember the soliloquy by heart.
