The Traveler actor was almost cast as Data . If not for Brent Spiner this guy would have been Data . Just like Okana was almost Riker

Konsinski is played by Stanley Kamel, who I know as Dr. Charles Kroger from Monk.

Oh how I cherish episodes of Star Trek where no phasers are fired in a lame naval battle in space. "Where No One Has Gone Before" is an engine upgrade accident that pushes the Enterprise so far away that unless the accident can be repeated no one will live long enough to ever see home again!

It's amazing how many people think Kosinski is the bad guy and the traveler is the good one. When it's really the other way. The traveler is useing star ships to hop around . He uses his ability to trick an officer into thinking his equations work.

I saw someplace on YT that the chief engineer was fired because he had lots of fan mail demanding he had more screen time, and then either he slipped up, or they set a trap, and he had fans writing about episodes that had not aired at the time, so they kicked hit butt out, what a kazinsky
@david41762 жыл бұрын
So he was writing his own fan mail? Did he not know no one gave a shit about his character?
@TheRealKaiProton2 жыл бұрын
@@david4176 Not sure, If Im remembering right, he was dropping episode plots to fan groups who wrote in about specific bits, I think they caught him out because they switched an episode, but he didnt, and the fan mail was talking about stuff that had not been on air

I really like where they tried to go with this episode. It actually felt like hard sci-fi when the Traveller manipulated the engines and they began to zip across the universe. I always thought they could have done a lot better than "your thoughts become real, so don't think about bad stuff." But at least they were starting to get their footing here.

Too bad this episode had to be reviewed by the 'adorkable misogyny' duo. For the concepts it covered it can be a very inspiring episode for those paying more attention. The new galaxies they traveled to were fun & even thought-provoking. In some ways, this was the first most quintessentially Star Trek episode in the Next Gen series.

I was in awe when I first saw this episode as a kid, but you're right there's something a little weird about the Traveler and his obsession with Wesley. I think the Traveler truly did want to go "where no man has gone before" . . . with Wesley. Ick. Wil Wheaton wrote some hilarious comments on the creepy Traveler in one of his Star Trek books.
@dansgroi14724 жыл бұрын
He knows he's a universal Mozart. Just like he is. Imagine traveling the universe. And finally finding someone, like you. Who will become able to shift time and energy. And go anywhere his mind wants to take him. I didn't really think about the other. He's creepy point. That would be fkd up.
@RobertWF424 жыл бұрын
@@dansgroi1472 Maybe it's our mistake assuming the Traveler is male. He's an alien, even if he does look like a middle-aged white male human.

Wesley hasn't proved that he's smart yet, he only proved that he knows the basics of engineering in the drunk episode and that the previous chief engineer was an idiot(who was fired and replaced with the new engineer). Which is why they still don't think wesley knows anything. All Wesley did in the previous episode is lock himself in the car with the engine turned on and he's saying "look I can put it in reverse and go forward, and honk the horn."

It is very frustrating when they write a child character without flaws and have the adults treat him like a dumb kid. All they had to do was give Wesley some kind of flaws so it made sense... But I guess the runtime was a factor. Overall the episode was okay

1:48 They apparently go “through two galaxies” and end up outside Triangulum Galaxy: M33. JLP says “that’s not possible!” That’s right it’s “not possible”!! There are not any other galaxies to travel through between us and Triangulum !! 🤦🏽♂️

I thought imagination wise. It was very cool. We thought voyager got flung across the universe. That was child's play. Compared to this. The fake scientist was a bit annoying. People who believe their own b.s. usually are. I liked it alot.

Kosinski being put down at the end after being such a stuck up prig is definitely the highlight. Everything else is the "Wesley is so special" arc and I hated that arc. I mean, absolutely love Wesley, but what the writers tried to do with his character was just meh. Like a heroic calling but without the villain, it felt really empty. So yeah, Kosinski being a dum bass and then getting a comeuppance wins this one. Love rewatching just to see his face.

I'm very forgiving of this episode because of how early on it was, but I usually skip it on rewatch. Everyone's character is just so extreme, it's weird to watch. I had actually forgotten that this is when Wesley was promoted to acting ensign.
