In the episode, the specifics of the Ferengi Death Ritual is explained that the body is not to be "violated" before burial. But DS9 explained a different version of the death ritual where the body is chopped up into pieces and the remains are vacuum-desiccated, and then sold to the highest bidder. However, it may be that death ritual of vacuum-desiccated remains does not apply to the Ferengi scientist because, as a disgraced failure, there would be no (financial) interest in his remains. Plus, the desire for an unmarked body would also seem to give reason to support the wishes of not having an autopsy performed as an autopsy would cause the body to depreciate in value.
@donovanulrich3482 жыл бұрын
But if his inventions turned profit Then violating the body before the familys approval, is considered as theft and harassment of the inheritors. And a violation of the Trade commission

With all the scanners they have, why would you even need to cut up a body for an autopsy? Also, why did they have to cut up the ferengi, but not the other guy? When he was pretending to be dead, it'd be funny if Beverly said, "well, let's cut him up into tiny bits."

It makes sense that Beverly wouldn't tell Nurse Ogawa what she was planning. Telling her what she was planning to do would make it hard to maintain her colleague's plausible deniability and risk taking down her career along with her own.

Sometimes I think you’re too harsh, albeit damn funny, but this time you were spot on. It was good to have a Beverly episode, but was a faux ‘film-noir’ mess. Anyway, look forward to the next one - although I still wish you’d chosen any other intro & outro music. If it wasn’t so grating, I swear I, and many others, would put multiple episodes on auto play for an hour or two. Your observations are terrific and yr voices strangely calming. The music wld be great in a club, but just kills it sadly. So I’ll carry on watching one by one, forwarding the first and last 12 seconds! Cheers guys.

So they can scan some thing in space very accurately when it's millions of miles away, but they have to cut up a body to do an autopsy instead of just scanning it with all their tools from a foot away? The whole Ferengi death thing would be retconned by DS9 anyway.

Wait...if the bad guy was disintegrated, how does Beverly corroborate her story? Even if there was some DNA residue, that could have just been Dr. Crusher stealing the body, and phasering it. With Sub Rosa, one could see how she becomes a renegade, kind of by the time of Picard Season 3. But she never had any professional consequences before.

You keep saying Beverly is a bad doctor, but she actually has quite a few accomplishments: 1. She was able to cure the intoxication in The Naked Now 2. She cured the disease that ravaged the Enterprise in Angel One 3. She was able to remove the parasite thing from Admiral Quinn in Conspiracy 4. She removed the Borg implants from Captain Picard in The Best of Both Worlds 5. She kept Willie Potts alive in Brothers 6. She cured Susanna Leijten and Geordi from being turned into those laser light creatures in Identity Crisis 7. She kept the Odan symbiont alive in The Host 8. She helped Dr. Russell replace Worf's spine in Ethics 9. She saved Troi from what Alkar was doing to her in Man of The People 10. She figured out how the Coalescent organism worked in Aquiel 11. In Descent, she uses the metaphasic shielding from this episode to help the Enterprise escape from the Borg ship As you can see, as much as you guys call her a "bad doctor." Dr. Crusher actually has a laundry list of medical accomplishments, you guys just cherry pick her failures, all of which are understandable when dealing with the unknown.

Best science episode ever! Flying a manned shuttle into a star instead of sending a probe was a very scientific. Agonizing over the Ferenghi autopsy while completely neglecting to autopsy the mysterious alien who also died mysteriously was great. I loved Beverly's incredible detective technique of simply accusing EVERYBODY of being a murderer. Flying a shuttle into a star AGAIN to prove a hunch, only to be attacked by the mysterious alien hiding in a box who gladly explained his evil master plan before dying like an idiot was absolutely inspired. I nearly died laughing when Troi appeared at the end of the episode after being absent for THE ENTIRE MURDER INVESTIGATION. 🤣

If Joe Brille's plan was shown to the audience, instead of told. I think it would have landed better, and change nothin else Cuz without a clone, i wonder how Joe Brille got out of sick bay, got clothes, and got to the shuttle Before Beverly who walked right to the shuttle 😂😂 and without a command code, joe Brille cant open the shuttle door. So he had to wait for her to open it?

Yikes, a wide polarity of grades! B-? Your points are spot on with what they tried to do with Beverly's character here. Unfortunately, it felt like they were doing it in a dumb/clumsy way and so it felt like a Polaski episode. Boy, do I hate that character, so I more so agree with Nick's grade, but I'm taking out 1/2 of the plus mark and making it an F-. Yes, an F-. There shouldn't be any reason to dive straight toward a black hole that is also known as a Polaski. They pulled a Polaski here.

It feels like the writers just watched The Maltese Falcon or something and thought that Gates McFadden was a good fit for the Bogart role. As unfair of a casting as that is, the writers behind Bogart were at least as much better than the ones for this episode as is the acting gap between he and McFadden. This episode had an unusual number of guest stars and makeup/prosthetics work, something TNG is generally economical about. It's a bit puzzling because one of the guests was Whoopi Goldberg, who obviously competes for screen time and further stresses the budget. This episode seems poorly managed in multiple aspects.
@shawnfisher74342 жыл бұрын
I'm convinced that Robert does not like TNG, and that's fine, he had never seen it before. That's the only way to explain why he likes episodes like this but thinks Tapestry is 'too drawn out'. It's a unique perspective, to be sure, to not like Q or Picard centric episodes but look forward to Beverly or Troi centric episodes... I'm with Nick on this one (again), this episode was very bad. I would give it a D- because I don't think it's in the truly awful tier, it just felt like it was mailed in by the writers. It's clear that they don't know how to write Beverly's character in a way that doesn't make her look incompetent as a doctor. As for this season, I would put this in the D tier with Man of the People, but a letter grade ahead of Aquiel, which was, for me, easily the worst episode of S6.
@donovanulrich3482 жыл бұрын
Oh come on I have to agree over all, but the concept of the Episode was A Material, and the writers were trying to fulfill a contractual Beverly episode at the same time And that screwed the concept 😂😂 But i give the episode a C C- And if Beverly wasent in it, I think it could be a B+ or A Have Data invite the Ferengi, and Data try to validate the tech cuz hes a machine And Brille point out we would want a Humanoid pilot, and Data eventually find that suspicious with all the other evidence mounting up Wile evetyone else tries to carry on with usual ship operations And Data has a Sherlock mission
@ondrejnovotny32732 жыл бұрын
It is entertaining to watch when you two disagree like this:) I still remember how I used to agree with Robert on season 1 and 2 ratings and was thinking that Nick's grades are crazy but it turned around season 3 and since then I'm more in agreement with Nick and questioning Robert's ratings, this episode being no different:)
