I can't help but love the prequels. It's Star Wars on the grandest scale, a true space opera. And I don't think I can name another movie that feels as wide-ranging, with so many planets, aliens, factions, etc. It really feels like a ride to another universe.

I absolutely love episodes one through six. The sequel trilogy, not so much. Even the original trilogy has it's minor nitpicks, but the vision from of those and of the prequels feel solid. I never understood the hate for Attack of the Clones. I remember it being a total blast to see in a crowded theater. So what if Anakin doesn't like sand. I don't like sand either!

@christianschmidt8476 It makes enough sense to me. It's really not that complicated. As far as the effects, I don't compare, old movies in terms of the advanced CGI to today's movies. Episode IT'S effects don't look up to par with today's modern movies, but that's not how I judge films. I only compare them to other movies of their time. In 2002, Episode II looked awesome. Plus I enjoy it it because I have fun with it. I don't take these movies too seriously. I just appreciate them as popcorn space adventures, as intended.

The prequels are like the cave on Dagobah. What you get out of it depends on what you take in. If you go in with preconceived notions that its going to be "The Empire Strikes Back" then of course youre going to be disappointed. Lucas had no intention of making the prequels the same as the OT. The OT was spaghetti westerns mixed with Arthurian legend, the Prequels were epic, Ben Hur, Cleopatra, Ten Commandments. Different tones, different characters, different vibe.

I’ve recently come to the conclusion that Phantom Menace is the best of the trilogy and a lot of its problems have been exaggerated. Despite stilted dialogue, I see genuine charm and enthusiasm from the actors, especially Ewan McGregor. Jake Lloyd is not as bad as people remember. He has some cringe dialogue, but NOBODY could make the line “yippee!” sound convincing. Ian McKellen couldn’t make that line sound convincing. His more emotional scenes with his mother are well done. Jar Jar is annoying, but he’s mostly a background character for most of the film. Generally the film is fun, exciting, adventurous and despite cringey/childish moments it has a lot of nostalgia for me. Final note: a key factor for me in why Phantom Menace holds up the best is the way the film looks. Shot on 35mm, film grain, more real life location shooting, better blending of CG and real life. The CG effects in Attack of the Clones and Revenge of the Sith are technically better, but they’re way overused plus those films are shot digitally. They just don’t look that good to me anymore, especially in 4K. Phantom Menace looks and feels like a real film. It’s sequels just have an artificial feeling that I can’t shake when I watch them now. Plus, nothing tops that final lightsaber duel.

I shit on the prequels back when it was popular to. Then I discovered Cinemawins & Star Wars Theory KZbin channels and after watching them, I gained a new perspective. Then I rewatched all 6 and having that new perspective in mind upon rewatching the movies, the prequels, while of course flawed, are actually better movies than people make them out to be. At least, in my opinion. Anakin is a 19-year-old horny dude who is more powerful than anyone truly realizes, and he was never taught how to talk to girls, especially one he's in love with, which is why his dialog seems so cringe. You really think a space monk is gonna be smooth with an attractive woman? 😂 maybe I could be told otherwise, idk. And Hayden was a great choice for the role personally.

Part of the problem, in my opinion, is in the original trilogy, Obi Wan painted the picture of Anakin as a good guy, who was turned. But the prequels show us the Anakin always had a bad, angry side. It's hard to get behind Anakin when he is a whiner, etc. I wish they would've kept it like the OT said, because that makes his turn more dramatic.

Hayden’s not the problem, it’s bad writing and directing. Sure, they could have gotten a more accomplished actor, but their performance would still be hindered. Ewan have good performances, but they could have been and should have been much better, but he had a bad director.

I was a massive fan of Star Wars before the prequel trilogy came out. The Phantom Menace come out when I was 10 and so I was, presumably, the target age for much of its nonsense. I did not like it. The most positive thing I can say about Attack of the Clones is that I don't even really remember it. And whilst I remember Revenge of the Sith seeming decent enough, I suppose I'd lost a lot of my childlike interest in Star Wars by its release and I don't think I've watched the film in full since I saw it in the cinema.

And I don't think it would be hard to find millions upon millions of star wars fans who agree (even if they like it they likely like it less than the other prequels). And I say this as someone who doesn't hate the prequels as much as others. Attack of the clowns has some of the worst dialogue and directing I have ever seen. So Kind of click baity, but I disagree with it being a better movie than PM, which would be really close to a good movie without Jarjar, and aging up Anakin a few years. poor Jake Lloyd get so much flack, but he was a little kid. It is a very rare child that age who can believably act. Saving the other 2 prequels are not possible in my mind without rewriting the whole thing.

I would argue that Lucas's infamously bad dialogue was the problem with pretty much all of the performances. It was an issue in the original movie. As for Luke getting a pass for being a bratty whining annoyance due to being trapped on Tatooine, did you forget his father was too? He was also a slave for the first decade of his life and separated from his mother. Honestly, I thought the 2nd prequal film was the weakest by far.
