Excellent work. The Y-wing was always my personal favourite. There was a 2-seater variant, with the ion cannons controlled by an actual gunner instead of simply fixed forward. I remember reading that when they were new, they had 0:58 an additional "skin" (cowling) on them that further exemplified the "Y" overall shape of the fighter, but often, these were just left off to reduce excess weight and to get at vital components easier, since the outside cowling was strictly cosmetic and had to be removed anyway to facilitate repairs of any kind...

In another way is a very hard and durable starfighter (in the hands of an excellent pilot > fast kill > reroute/switch shields fast and accurate. Sometimes no shields to increase velocity and kill fast >> best pilot). As bomber the variety of proyectils make him the perfect bomber.

One of the more sensible fighter designs in Star Wars. Only real glaring drawback is the lack of any armaments for rearward defense on this rather slow and less maneuverable ship. And removing the armor plates on the critical rear parts of the frame surely doesn't exactly aid its survivability once a more nimble enemy manges to get behind it. In other words: without fighter cover, any average TIE -Fighter should have little trouble dealing with these.

The only Star Wars space superiority fighter prop whose frame completed 50% up to engine housing before they rushed to redesign & call it done cramping the 2 sets of guns & torpedoes on the radome and fore fuselage below and behind the cockpit. Predict the actual original design, this is supposed to be twin tandem seats fighter with sensor in nose square radome, avionics behind the cockpit followed by fuel tank or atomic cells packs, gravity drive, shield genetator. The further back missing frame house rear facing sensor and anti-missile explosive dispenser or blast radius mine in between the 2 empty engine housing frame. The 2 main engines are supposed to be filling all the way to the back, not empty hollow metal frame. The housing for torpedoes are supposed to be in between fuselage & engines on both sides and also the guns with their energy packs, cooling system, regenerators. Reverse thrusters (for slowing down, reverse) directional thrusters for pitch, roll, yaw, going upward, downward, sideways, cross axis missing.

I used to claim that the A-wing was my favorite Rebel fighter. But recently, I've decided it's actually the Y-Wing. I'm not really sure why. In The films, it's not exactly a heroic spacecraft. Despite being the "workhorse" of the fleet, the X-Wing always seems to get the glory. Maybe it's because it's the underdog. Maybe it's because of its utilitarian appearance. All I know is it's ugly in the most beautiful way possible, and I think they're awesome.

The Y-wing is an under appreciated ship vs the x-wing.
@SandsOfArrakis3 жыл бұрын
Having played the X-Wing games a lot in the past. The Y-Wing was always slow, but had strong shields and quite thick armor. So it could take a hit that would destroy an A-Wing. Plus side was that it's 2 laser cannons are placed side by side. So if you hit an enemy, both lasers would hit. With an X-Wing you're laser cannons would miss a lot. Since they are spaced apart. Give the Y-Wing a fighter escort to keep TIE's off it's back and it'll destroy the big targets. The Y-Wing is not a ship that you want to dogfight in, cause it's too slow for that.
@TheRyujinLP3 жыл бұрын
My man delivers! Everyone might love the X-wing but for me it's this chunky beast that made me fall in love with the vehicle designs of Star Wars. Only one minor complaint: given that Y-wing started up as a two-seater and had a dedicated two-seater variant during the Rebellion era, I'd imagine that the area behind the pilot would be more of a plug'n'play type, and with ion turret not extending all the way through the cabin.
