I’m on the same boat as you. My local hallmark store was still filled with Star Wars and other Disney themed ornaments including Mickey Mouse sitting on the shelf untouched. She wanted a Rey movie after Rey had a disjointed trilogy that broke lore. Also Hasbro produced dolls that were supposed to be different characters from different eras that looked identical. EA devoted an entire game pack in the Sims 4 (a fan base that put Star Wars at the bottom of an interest list) to the sequels trilogy and that pack stays on sale. This isn't dumb, this is finacial negligence.

I took a screenshot from RetroBlasting’s video “Star Wars - Kathleen’s Funhouse of Fun”; it’s an older video. At minute 1:37 there’s a shot of KK in fro t if a screen with fourteen titles. Five of them never came out: Children of Blood and Bone, Rangers of the New Republic, Rogue Squadron, Lando, and Droid Story (to be fair, Droid Story may still be released). The other nine include Mandalorian, Visions, Ahsoka (not exactly a success), Willow and Acolyte (definitely not successes), Bad Batch, Andor and Obi-Wan, as well as a general Indiana Jones title (but the less we speak about that, the better. Two titles not listed on screen that have come out are Book of Boba Fett and Skeleton Crew, neither of which we could call great successes either.

Pedro Pascal is a horrible idiot, Grogu is now best used as a football, and even if you liked the story (which was decent in season 1), they have trashed those characters so badly...it's just done. Good video and good analysis of the Star Wars problems. I believe the only way to fix Star Wars is to stop all new productions and just release the original 6 films (OT and Prequels) back into the theaters as an attempt to rebuild the fan base. I too believe KK hired Headland to obtain leverage over Iger and Disney for her knowledge of the 'darker' Hollywood issues to enable KK keeping her Lucas Films job. It also is possible KK hired Headland as a way to further damage Star Wars after the fans rejected KK's female-centric Star Wars films and shows. However, Headland and the Lucas Films story group are so inept that they could not create a decent enough script to make any of their productions a hit and profitable to Disney. This leaves us with the extensive apathy the Star Wars fan base is experiencing and will likely live with for many years to come.

They'd have, like you say, make the sequels and everything they've done be an alternate universe, and then adapt the Legends books (Maybe not exactly 1:1, but the big stories keep and use). Start off with an animated series developing an Animated Thrawn Trilogy/Duopoly to bring fans back similar to what Clone Wars did and then move into New Jedi Order stuff with the movies.

15 years ago, the conversation was always that Westerns had been a dominant genre, then replaced by macho muscle man action, followed by comic book movies. The question is what could come next that could possibly dethrone comics book movies that we were constantly being told had oversaturated the market and would fall out of popularity. That didn't happen, btw, and was never going to. The whole super hero fatigue thing. That was never going to be a thing. But what could come next? The main answer was probably some kind of scifi trend, as we ventured further into the future in our own time. But what could really do it? Something new? Or, more likely, a resurgence of Star Wars, which still had a huge following just salivating for new stories. Yes. It was Star Wars. The promise was there and TFA shot through the roof. The next big trend, like Westerns, in cinemas would be scifi, specifically Star Wars. Man, that didn't last long before they practically purposefully crashed and burned it.
