Seeing the homeless clone was so heartbreaking and surreal. The clones in general are definitely Lucas’s meta commentary on war and veterans and now we’ve seen the endpoint. Kylo was lame Jacen, Rey was Ken Palpatine, TROS was even more nonsensical Dark Empire without the Luke vs prime Palpatine duel. Vader is the one thing Disney seems to have some respect for. They do him justice whenever they bring him out. Both Fallen Order and Rebels portrayed him like a walking force of nature, one you don't stop, you just hope to survive. Rogue One and the comics gave him iconic scenes of mass slaughter. If this show continues that, could be pretty great. I've already got some major issues with Reva somehow knowing who he is and the possibility of Vader fighting Kenobi on Tatooine, but there's potential. Remains to be seen if they do Ben justice but it makes sense for him to be a defeated hermit unlike Luke at least. Though there is one minor aspect I have to praise Disney for, which I never expected. The fact they keep showing Tatooine wildlife that looks like it belongs in water. I have a big problem with the idea that an INQUISITOR would have the gall to abduct the daughter of Bail Organa. Even VADER didn’t move on Leia until they’d acquired incontrovertible evidence she was engaged in treason. If Palpatine found out an Imperial had done something guaranteed to engender widespread sympathy for the Alderaanians, and resentment against the Empire on the extreme long shot a Jedi in such deep hiding he’s survived the Purge for a decade might HAPPEN to be in a position to hear about an abduction that’s likely happened happened on the opposite side of the galaxy from him, he’d at least have her tortured for idiocy. Any Inquisitor should know how severe the consequences for trying (and failing) at a gambit like that would be, and be understandably reluctant to take such a course of action. Does the Third Sister hate Obi Wan so unreasoningly, she’s willing to risk dying a bad death WITHOUT gaining her revenge?

Also apparently the Grand Inquisitor found out about the scheme, but either he did not communicate this to Vader, or Vader does not care. Because in Episode 3, Vader offered Reva the position of Grand Inquisitor if she catches Obi-Wan. My issues with the show are the killing of the Grand Inquisitor, who isn't supposed to meet his demise for several years until Star Wars Rebels. There's also a problem with Kenobi rescuing Leia. Maul and Vader survived worse. Although that would make Reva incompetent at murder. And even if he is dead, wasn't Reva the only one around him with a lightsaber at the time of his death? I mean it's pretty clear what caused the wound. I'm sure Palpatine and Vader will forget she murdered or tried to murder another inquisitor. I guess she is the best at what she does, which is failing. You know the funny thing? She could have set up this trap (as ridiculous as it was), lied to the Grand Inquisitor with a weak tip from a personal informant not worth for all of them going there, but in case it was useful she has to go because the informant would only talk to her. Then Reva would be there when Obi-Wan tries to rescue Leia. Getting not only Obi-Wan, but also acting like she saved Leia on top of it. That would stop any possible repercussions from Bail Organa, because he would have to admit knowing where a known felon has been hiding. Heck, he'd have to act thankful in public.

The thing is this: unlike all the other Disney Star Wars shows thus far, this isn’t about some secondary character where mistakes and continuity errors might be overlooked. This show is about the very heart of the Star Wars saga itself. Plot holes and continuity errors are unforgivable. So while, for example, Obi not knowing that Vader was still alive might seem like a small flaw in a semi-decent show (and I debate that point, but I’ll return to this point), such a flaw (along with many others) in fact ruins the whole show. Disney had no room for error here. Everything needed to be perfect. It is FAR from that. Your point that Obi-Wan would be a broken man at this point is quite right. But what Disney has actually done is this: they used plausible elements of the lore to give us the characters they always want to give us: Jake Kenobi and Mary Sue Organa. Make no mistake this show is painfully Woke. I don’t think 𝘒𝘦𝘯𝘰𝘣𝘪 is very good at all. The story has no nuance, the characters have unclear motivations, it’s a lazy and recycled formula (surrogate dad/McGuffin super-kid), and it’s disrespectful to the lore. Why is Disney afraid of lightsaber action? A Jedi dies due to Inquisitors and not a lightsaber duel to be seen. That wouldn’t have happened if this was 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘞𝘢𝘳𝘴-or even 𝘙𝘦𝘣𝘦𝘭𝘴 for that matter. The lack of sophistication for character behavior kills the dramatic tension. This isn’t a show for actual adults. The aforementioned 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘭𝘰𝘯𝘦 𝘞𝘢𝘳𝘴 did this better; TCW could set up proper stakes in mere minutes-despite being a “kids” show. I don’t even want to get into the lore-breaking cluster that will be Kenobi’s meeting Vader. Your opening statement on what Disney Star Wars is is sadly far too on point.

Glad you picked up on Obi-Wan telling the one guy the Jedi are over while also saying he needs to train Luke. I thought that was an odd inconsistency in the character. I liked everything with Obi-Wan directly, and Ewan McGregor nailed it when he learns Anakin's still alive like you said. But I pretty much disliked everything else. I don't disagree the actress playing Reva is giving it her all, I'm just not sure her all is that good. She can't seem to pull off menacing, which so far is all that's been required of here. So, maybe she was just miscast. Then again, I'm guessing she'll be on the side of good before too long, but we'll see. Leia is played by an adorable actress, but I think the characterization is just awful. It's like she's exactly the fully formed Leia we see in A New Hope just in a 10 year old body. I get the impression they're trying to portray her as longing for adventure just like Luke. But that's dumb. Luke was stuck on a moisture farm in the middle of nowhere, unable to pursue any of his dreams because his familial obligation to Owen and Beru. Leia is living in the lap of luxury, part of a dynamic political court, and is pretty much unlimited opportunity. Why would she be bored and longing for adventure? Because she has obligations she doesn't like? Luke had to fix vaparators on a planet with two suns and no women. The writers seem scared to death to portray Leia as having even a remote interest in her life as a princess. She's avoiding social gatherings to climb trees and watch starships! You remember Leia's well established fondness for starships, right? She's not interested in all that stupid princess stuff. Princesses are dumb, right girls? Then they had her manipulatively hug her foster mom so she could steal back her droid, and they try to pass that off as cute instead of budding sociopathy. Whoa, got on a bit of a rant there. Yeah, the little girl playing Leia is great, but I'm really disappointed in how she's written. At the time I didn't think her insights into the thoughts of others was latent Force sensitivity, but now that you mention it I can see that's probably what they're going for. Not sure why Obi-Wan wouldn't pick up on it, though.

I gotta disagree about Leia. It's perfectly in line with how they portrayed her. Especially how we know how Aunt Beru said Luke ‘acted like his father’, it would be more of a surprise if she somehow didn't follow the same path. We've seen from the beginning of Episode 4 how Leia puts on the fake British voice when she is dealing with Vader and Tarkin. It's only when Tarkin threatens to blow up Alderaan does she drops the fake accent and talks much like Luke does. Not to mention how she handles that blaster and gets them out of the detention level after being rescued. It's completely in character to be this tomboy who longed for adventure like Luke did but was stifled by the aristocratic life of an Aldaranian noble, especially one as powerful as house Organa.

At the end of Revenge of the Sith, Yoda said that he would teach Obi-Wan how to talk to Qui-Gon Jinn's force ghost. So it would've been cool if Qui-Gon had a large role in this series. For example, Obi-Wan would be depressed and destroyed due to the events of Revenge of the Sith, and Qui-Gon would be there giving counsel. Qui-Gon would be the last spark of hope for Obi-Wan. You could also have some fun banter between the two when Obi-Wan gets himself into difficult situations. In addition, it would be cool to see how the relationship between these two characters changed from the Phantom Menace to now. Lastly, if it's too expensive to have an actor and do all the effects to make him look like a force ghost, they could just have a voice over like at the end of a New Hope.
@ShepCantDance2 жыл бұрын
See, I didn't see Kenobi's apparent lack of compassion for his fellow Jedi and the fact that he hasn't been using the Force as an indication of a lack of hope per se, but rather that his dedication to protecting Luke is so complete that it supercedes the Jedu code for him. He will sacrifice and suppress anything so that he can avoid discovery (not "hunt himself") and protect the boy. When the other Jedi found him and he denied his identity and sent him away, I took that nor so much as a "I no longer believe the Jedi" as "I can't be discovered, and the presence of this hunted Jedi puts me at risk of discovery, so I'll kick the puppy until he runs away."

I thought Leia was too inconsistant. At one point she is all about avoiding her roles as a princess and hanging out in trees, then she gets kidnapped and becomes super suspicious of people making Obiwan's job of getting her home nearly impossible. Then after he saves her she is 100% on board with the literal conartist she meets in a dark alley. She goes from free spirit, to hyper victim, to seeing everyone as a kidnapper, to trusting people 100% and lecturing her actual savior about trust issues she had been displaying seconds before. Do not get me started on the Grand Inquisitor letting 3rd sister openly work against him multiple times while not taking the least precausions against her stabbing him in the back/front.

I have been intending to point out something else besides specific problems with these new movies and series: a trend of the actress portraying the 'strong female character' always manages to somehow besmirch the fandom with the adjectives, 'sexist', 'racist', and suchlike. It also appears that they are wholly unaware of history. This twin dynamic of arrogance and ignorance of history seems now to be common. The actress who plays Reva once said that it was 2022 now and it was time for Star Wars to have more diversity. That argument is specious; Star Wars has been diverse since _A New Hope,_ which is 1977, which is forty-five years ago. Not only is the in-universe galaxy diverse in terms of species, there has also been a fairly diverse cast (how about Lando, Mace Windu, Bail Organa? Not diverse enough?), and there have been strong female characters like Leia, Ahsoka, and Padme (yes, Padme, too; she was a greater obstacle to Palpatine's scheming than the entirety of the Jedi Order), and many more in EU. How do they so easily pretend that history does not exist?

Leia was generally well handled, but the chase scenes were a huge problem. You covered how bad the first one was, but second one where Obi-Wan is chasing her over the rooftops, there's also no way she could have stayed ahead of him for that long, either. In order to simultaneously stop her and keep her from getting hurt, as well as to convince her of his good intentions, he should have Force-lifted her as soon as they were up on the roof, out of sight of anyone. When you're yelling at the TV for Obi-Wan to do something so obvious, something in the writing has gone awry. And neither of the chases would have lead to a different outcome if they'd just been cut, so they were literally wasting our time just to show us something that was going to strain credulity, anyway.

Why didn't they employ an actual fan of the franchise to write this series? Seriously have it start with Leia visiting that holiday star cruiser costing Disney money and she's snatched off the ship with only one of her bodyguards succeeding in pursuing them as they use a small freighter to flee off the cruiser. Damaged in the pursuit they end up landing on Tatooine to repair his ship and encounters Ben Kenobi who helps the injured guard as unaware by him Obi-Wan is conversing with the force spirit of Qui-Gon who has persuaded him to help the guard. Trained to hide his force potential he remains hidden as a sortie of Inquisitors head to Tatooine to scour for force sensitives. Qui-Gon however lets them sense him so when Ben and the guard fly offworld to Nar Shadaar they detect him and end up diverting from their mission to pursue what they sense is a Jedi Master. They reach Nar Shadaar and whilst the guard contacts Bail, Obi-Wan encounters that clone trooper who he gives some of his few credits to unaware the clone trooper has recognised him and having not had his chip activated starts following them. Use this opportunity to introduce Cassian Andor (he has a series coming so why not advertise that like they did Ahsoka ), they start bickering on how to rescue Leia as Ben slips out. He manages to con the Inquisitors into attacking the Crimson Dawn kidnappers so he can slip inside, free Leia and escort her back to safety. No use of force powers just make it look like simple guile and she assumes he's a hireling of her father's. Returns to the others only the clone trooper isn't surprised However Ben is introduced to Bail who clearly recognises him much to Leia's shock as Ben openly prompts Bail to keep quiet about his presence and since he can't stay he recommends the clone trooper to act as Leia's body guard as they have experience handling impetuous kids. Leia would be initially mad, Bail and the others a little offput, but this should take up most of the first season and set up the 2nd season with Maul coming out of hiding as it becomes clear someone he knows has resurfaced. If course Maul surfacing would bring in Vader as why not have them fight each other during the second season as Ben Kenobi investigates to find out who is targetting Leia before heading home... Sorry can't help wondering how a series called Star Wars and a floundering star cruiser hotel business of Disney didn't involve each other and kidnapping Leia in space!
