That event with the Death Troopers is actually cool. So many wanted systems don’t really have a goal to do once you hit max notoriety. Would be cool if you get some strong/unique loot from doing that event too!

Yeah, that’s my problem with this one. Looking at the footage, I keep thinking - man, I’ve played this already. They might shuffle the formula a bit, but it plays like all the other titles that have come out in the last 5+ years.

I don't feel like the game has negative vibes at all, at least from the reviewer side. I feel like many reviews I saw seem a bit too nice. Like listing all the mediocre and half-assed things in the game for ten minutes just to end with 'it's great, 8/10'. Gamers on the other hand are just tired of Ubisoft I guess.

Honestly this looks like an indie game, but with a full price tag (thats a red flag). Indie game usually meansthe developer had to cut corners somewhere. Some developers cut corners intelligently (ex marketing), some dont (ex mid graphics, limited voice acting, mid visual setting, mid story, mid characters, mid worldbuilding etc). The genre also helps, example roguelike games have poor story, they can get away with it if the setting/design is decent. Now a game has multiple areas it has to be good, however it can fail in some areas that arent as critical & still be an enjoyable experience. So this game (SW Outlaws) it is certainly not AAA quality, even AA quality is debatable with this game. The Ubisoft games have a history of being grindy, the gameplay is not as varied, so from the outset this doesnt look good.

Hey Mortym, one thing I’d really like to know in your 100% review is how important it is to prioritize side quests versus the main story. It seems like more and more games are locking essential mechanics behind the main story, which I’m okay with-I just want to make sure I can focus on the main story without missing out on side content. A good example is Horizon Forbidden West, where you get the ability to fly right at the end of the game. If I’d known that, I would have skipped a lot of side content until the post-game.

My way of playing Ubisoft's game is taking a single month of the subscription. That way I can try the newest game and probably another I missed, all for 8€. It's not like I'm ever coming back to replay that game.

Last time I did that was for AC Mirage, so not that long ago and the basic sub was enough.

I swear, I'm not being contrarian for its own sake, but since when are Space Wizards "Run of the mill"? This isn't even directed at Mort, it's more of a gripe with Star wars that they've, somehow, convinced their fandom that literally *the* coolest part of their setting is the most boring, and it drives me insane. I feel like I'm one of the only people I know who pretty much *only* like star wars for the Jedi, and am desperately bored by all the space cowboy stuff. Make no mistake, I *LOVE* space cowboys, Bebop and Firefly are both in my top 10 favorite shows, but that's not why I come to Star wars! What drives me insane here, is that the "wandering cowboy" aesthetic of many early westerns were meant to emulate Samurai films of the same era, and both are stellar, but disney is only focusing on the space western portion of their IP when the Wandering Samurai aesthetic is *right there*. They even have an episode of Visions that recognized this, and they haven't done more with it than a tie-in novel! Ugh. Anyway, that's my rant, don't take this personally Mort, it isn't directed at you, your comment just reminded me of this rant and I figured I might as well give you the engagement.

the good/evil space samurai is what star wars IS IMO basically without it it´s just undercooked (as in it´s not very developed) sci-fantasy with a distinct visual style , and even the visual style is debatable as it´s only some of the empire that has a unique look these days, the rest is "kinda 70´s space junk". It isn't incredibly massive as the main story barely eclipses 20-30hr's if you take it slow, the one thing Ubisoft took away from their latest criticism is how bloated their games are. It still has a lot to offer for people that are interested into side quests and other stuff.

Star Wars have always been like that. Probably the most creative planet I have seen is Felucia. Otherwise it has always been "Imagine a planet, but it is all just one big forest/desert/ocean/ice-sheet/city/battle station". I think in today's world we lack the imagination to come up with something that is TRULY alien to us. Best fantasy stories I have seen about outer space come from NASA to this very day.

I mean, all these planets we see in the movies and games apparently have the same gravity and atmosphere. Just incorporating those two factors could make the environments feel way more diverse.

There is a general problem with gaming channels. They can't read. Ubisoft's Director for their subscription service made a correct observation that in order for gaming subscriptions like theirs and Game Pass to grow, gamers have to be more comfortable not owning their games like people did with music. I think we can find reasons to hate Ubisoft without making up stuff about them.

Yeah some of those systems sound okay but but I see the word scoundrel being tossed around by everyone...and I just don't know what that means. My impression is that it's trying to have a character who does a couple of bad things but actually isn't a criminal which I feel ruins the vibe of this game

Technically speaking it just means someone who is lacking in morals, dishonest, and likely a criminal. Its usually used to refer to someone who is charming and definitely doing illegal things but isn't necessarily a ruthless murderer.

I'm wondering about how varied the spacecraft you encounter will be. I would love if each syndicate had its own fighters, transport and shuttle sizes ships pls a Corvette, Frigate, or better yet both (The most well known Star Wars Corvettes from this era are the CR90s AKA Leia's ship from A New Hope while there were a number of Frigate classes from Rebels, the OT, and The Clone Wars which could reasonably be used by Syndicates if they don't want to make new ones)

I will be giving this a try, but not at full asking price. I've been wanting a non-chosen one/jedi star wars game for a long time now, since it's been a long time since the last good one. Not sure why, but to me all the stuff I've seen with in-game gameplay makes it look like all the settings are on low, or medium. Textures, shadows, visuals etc. Now given the state of game optimization in 2024, I'd probably have to run with most things on low or medium anyway but it still kinda bugs me for some reason.

Most reviewers put so much hate in this game and I just don't believe it. They just want to kill the game because it's not what they wanted. Yeah I also see that it's not a 9 score but it could be an 7or8 but not a 4. Days Gone also had the same issue, there was so much hate but now we all want a sequel.

I don't know if it says more about Star wars or Mort that he can say "run of the mill space wizard" and mean it... about a game where we play a criminal with a gun - sure it's a laser gun, but : GTA, Just cause, Far cry etc... Having an axolotl pet is not something you see elsewhere though (except if there is a Pokemon maybe ?)

Totally agree that the game should be released also on Steam, Epic, etc. It seems to me they would make more money. Most people I read plan to use the subscription one month, so certainly not the best method for Ubisoft in the end. People do not become hooked to subscriptions nor gain fidelity out of the blue: they easily unsubscribe and uninstall. I will not pay and wait for Ubisoft to wisen up.

Looks good. I'd probably like it more than most since I don't get bored too easily so looking forward to playing this rep system. Sadly won't be playing it at least till next year with a more current GPU hopefully and so maybe the price will drop by then. Haven't played a Star Wars games for a long long long time.. SWTOR might have been the last time and that's like 10 yrs ago (Warband mod or X4 mods not counting).

My guess: they were "inspired" by the "space combat" from the SWTOR that is why it looks so jank and you have only the outside view. Even the "spin" is a one to one copy.
