I'd say that it's been a mini game since 1996. Before then, we were lucky to be given a couple of resolution options and a couple of detail settings. With the introduction of Quake, though, we were suddenly given dozens of resolutions to choose from and dozens of other settings to tweak in the menu, in-game console and config files. I spent so much time in all three, tweaking settings to improve my framerate and the quality of the graphics. It was a fun challenge/puzzle. That's the game that really popularized user customization and optimization (and, specifically, the in-game console and plain-text config files).

Modern computer graphics crack me up sometimes. Fog is used to limit draw distance, but over _here_ it's a high-end addition to the look of the game. Lower definition on the image is low-end, but blurry frame generation is high tech. I mean, it's like all those options the game designers used to think were great like motion blur, film grain, and lens flaring that most users immediately turned off on first boot. Meh, at least it _will_ let us run at native resolution even if it does make even a 4090 puff and chug along.

You are confusing old performance hack that pretended to be fog with actual volumetric fog that does WONDERS to atmosphere and graphical fidelity. These are completely different things with different purpose, but merely naming them both "fog" is a semantical excuse to make an argument that isn't real. Camera motion blur was a huge mistake based on an incorrect assumption that the industry is recently backing off from and moving back to object motion blur (which is important especially for effects like sparkles or sword swings), so "the nature is healing" I guess.

This way any modern game looks much better (crispier, more detailed, with better texture quality). For older games you can use higher quality settings - DLDSR 2,25x (1620p->1080p) or even DSR 4x (2160p->1080p). If you want to retain similar to native 1080p performance, just use DLDSR 1,78x in conjunction with DLSS Quality. This way most games provide similar framerates to native 1080p (even with enabled DLAA), but still look significantly better.

Hello, Tim. I'm talking directly to you. I commented this at one of Vex's videos and I thought it might be interesting to you too. First of all, I want to say that I don't want to play the victim, and nothing that I will say here will be changeable by you. I just want you express my frustration. I am 23 years old and I live in Brazil, I was born here, and I've always had a pretty comfortable life. My dad used to make a lot of money and I always had an united family. It all fell apart in the last few years tho but that's another story. I am watching your videos and I just think it's funny the things you say, because you see everything with your perspective (as you obviously should, not saying that is a bad thing) So, the intent of this comment is just to make you get another perspective of things, maybe even trigger some ideas for a video, who knows Basically, my country is fucked. The money here is called real (it is not pronounced as you just read ofc), the plural is called reais. Once upon a time (I believe not even 30 years ago), the conversion was 1:1 for american dollars, which means that 1 real was equal to 1 dollar. The conversion right now (08/27/2024) is 5,51:1, which means that 1 american dollar is worth 5,51 reais. Let's say it is 5,5 to make it easy. The minimum wage here is about 8 reais/hr (about U$1,45/hr), and the average national salary is about R$13,54/hr (U$2,46/hr). That's the average, and we are a country with over 200 million people. I think you get where I'm going with this. Not only that, but we have a TON of taxes, like a FUCKING TON. Usually, for launches (let's pretend that RTX 5060 comes out tomorrow), we multiply the MSRP by ten. 10 (ten). So, if the MSRP is like 399 idk, we could comfortably say that it will cost AT LEAST 3200 BRL (reais), but it will probably come closer to R$4000. I do know that these comparions are not valid for a number of reasons, but let's just PRETEND for the sake of the point that I'm trying to make. The american minimum wage is about what, 8 dollars/hr? And ours is 8 reais/hr, so let's just say (AGAIN, PRETENDING) that 1 dollar = 1 real. Now, I can put you in my reality. Imagine that your market right now is like this: RTX 4060 costing U$2000, R7 7800X3D costing U$3000, RX 6600 costing U$1400, you know what I mean. What about the used market? Well, let's just say that people are buying RX 470 from China for like R$350 because it's the only viable option for this price range. A fucking RX 470. Sometimes it is even the 1700sp version, the 470D. And you can be 100% SURE that those cards were used til death in crypto mining. I think it's funny when you guys say things like "oh this card is 320 usd, so expensive, not worth it, this is 250 usd, so much better" because we are here paying our entire salaries for a gtx 1650 Again, this is not your fault and there's nothing you can do about it, I just wanted to expose my frustration. I just wanted you to know that, if I could pay half my salary for a RTX 4060, I would be the HAPPIEST PERSON ON THE PLANET. And about those China cards? Well, our government this year put a 92% fee for imported products. 92%. So, if you want something that costs 100 usd, you will pay 192 usd for it. 100 for the product, 92 for the government. Buying used stuff (specially used in crypto mining) from China was once a good option for brazilian people, but not anymore. For the third time, I don't want to play the victim, I have australian citizenship and I'm trying to apply for my passport right now, and as soon as I could get my hands on it, oh boy, I will be running away from this country faster than how I run away from my problems. If you think that the things I've said here are absurd and that you could not live in a place like this, this is just for hardware. For stuff like iPhones, they are not 10 times more expensive. They are 15 times. The version of the iPhone 15 pro max that launched costing 1000 usd was costing 3000 usd here. USD by the way, not converting to reais yet. If anyone want to join this discussion or ask for more information, I'd be happy to answer. It's always nice to share our frustrations with other people. And to shock first world country citizens.
