We officially get to see why Thrawn is so terrifying. He may not have the force but on the mental level he rivals Vader and Palpatine
@ilcineangolodialex5224
@ilcineangolodialex5224 10 ай бұрын
He is actually more brilliant and intelligent than Vader and at the same level of Palpatine. All this without the Force :)

Well that is sort of the point of Thrawn. Vader is the brute force strength and the fear of him is trying to overcome that, whereas Thrawn is an intellectual opponent and the fear of him is trying to outsmart him.
@digitaladventurer2142
@digitaladventurer2142 10 ай бұрын
@@lucasdolding6924 Maybe at first but Vader really upped his mental game after the empire formed. In legends Palpatine even called him out for his overuse of just bullying and pure brutality and that if he didn't start using his brain he'd be replaced. He did come up with the plan to discover Phoenix squadron by luring the gang to Lothal then scaring them off so they could track them back to others.

@@digitaladventurer2142 Vader is smart but his strength in the force is his big thing. Thrawn could definitely outsmart Vader but he could obviously not take him in a physical fight.

That one scout trooper jumping onboard the Ghost in a rather awesome manner only to realize he’s surrounded is hilarious. It kind of adds to my personal belief that scout troopers are slightly more competent than most Stormtroopers mostly due to being suicidally overconfident and it usually blows up in their face in spectacular fashion

Although this isn't his first appearance on the show, 3x05 is a great introduction to Grand Admiral Thrawn's personality and skills for those who aren't familiar with him from before Rebels. You see his analytical mind at work, his appreciation for other culture's art, the respect he gives to enemy warriors should they earn it and a glimpse at his frustration at the ignorance/xenophobia he has to contend with in the human-centric Empire. Another thing it hints at is one of his most dangerous attributes is his desire to cultivate proteges. Slavin is a failed example but throughout his literary appearances Thrawn will mentor his assistants/subordinates on strategy and culture in order to make them better at tactical thinking and being more flexible in their approach to war/life. After his own mind, his teachings are the most dangerous thing Thrawn brings to the Imperial war effort as it raises the risk that more Imperials will think outside the box like him.
@NerdX151
@NerdX151 10 ай бұрын
Also Thrawn's teachings were very much based on a trial and error approach. He actually rewards his crew for admitting their mistakes, which is also one of the reasons why his fleet was so powerful. His men learned from their mistakes instead of being punished for them

Two fantastic episodes, and that Clone Wars outro is truly special. You're right that what Ezra said isn't particularly groundbreaking and is obvious, but it is nice to have it blatantly said and acknowledged on screen that everyone lost TCW and it was the Empire who won, and Rex (and the tactical droid) needed to hear that for some closure.

A fantastic Hera episode, one that featured Thrawn being most impressive, and a fantastic Rex episode. One last glorious day in the Grand Army of the Republic. Elements I knew would yield a strong reaction, and yet, I was still unprepared for how marvelous the reaction was. Oh, this reaction was most beautiful, Jess.

I feel like secretly Rex needed that battle as much as the battle did even if it did bring back his PTSD. And it taught Ezra a vuable leason about following orders.

4:50 I didn’t mention this in my comment on the first season three reaction, because you said you weren’t gonna be reading those, but Kevin Kiner absolutely kills it with his Thrawn theme. It perfectly captures his character, all slow and methodical and controlled and soft-spoken and dripping with malice. He’s the scariest guy in the room at all times not because he is the biggest or the loudest, but because he’s the smartest guy in the room.

This really gives you the essence of Thrawn. Well read, educated, artist. He treats war as an art. More so though he's playing sabacc when most people are out bantha tipping.} The most defining characteristic though is how unflappable he is, how he "never" loses his temper over a military loss... which is why it's so interesting to see what does make him lose his shit... and it turns out he hates philistines. We all have our triggers I guess.

Yes Thrawn is impressive, but Hera kills it with the line "it doesn't matter where we come from Admiral, our will to be free is what's going to beat you." And that spirit will prevail in the end.

It is rare that we see Thrawn lose his temper. The captain's bigotry and stupidity brought out a single growl, but it could have been much worse. Vader would have likely killed him for that annoyance.

Remember that the ONLY reason that the 3rd sister wasn't killed by Vader on the Fortress Inquisitorius is she was (for lack of a better phrase) a "useful idiot". And she did track Obi-Wan successfully. Neither of them are fans of stupidity

Kanan's fighting skills are pretty impressive, thinking about the fact that he is blind. That again shows that jedi or sith fighting is basically just using the force for 99,9% of the time. You almost forget that Kanan can't see anything.

That moment in Hera's Heroes when Thrawn deduces her identity and then fells Ezra is WHY we fear Thrawn. And like Vader going off on the 3rd sister Thrawn doesn't flip out often, but when he does he is TERRIFYING. The Last Battle was our goodbye to the Clone Wars before we got season 7. Say hello to the 2nd Phantom Jess. So this particular Droid leader was on Onderon(Saw's home planet). We love Rex so much and this episode REALLY addresses his PTSD

"The Last Battle" is one of my favorite episodes in this show. At the time, it had been so long since anything Clone Wars related had come out and it was great to see a callback episode. It's also nice to see Kalani again...even though we have no idea where he is in the current canon now. To be honest, I know it hasn't been said by anyone, but I'd like to think that this episode was greenlit the moment Disney had total control over the Clone Wars series from Cartoon Network and, at this time, also started planning the Season 7 that would be announced a year and a half after this episode aired.

Man Rebels did Thrawn so well. I have to be careful what I say so I don’t spoil Ahsoka, but what I will say is I look forward to seeing what he does in the future. He’s terrifying as is, but even more terrifying when he gets mad because it so rarely happens. Aside from loving and respecting various cultures and their art, the other reason he has no tolerance for bigotry is because he’s the only nonhuman grand admiral and he worked hard to get there. And that Clone Wars episode and outtro was truly special. Ezra learned some valuable lessons about war and trauma and following orders and Rex had the best worst day of his life.
@cacho100uva
@cacho100uva 10 ай бұрын
Agreed. Ezra coming to the conclusion the Empire was the one winning the Clone Wars was like someone, after serious calculations, concluding two plus two equals four and everyone being astounded with the realization. I get the point of the scene, the fictional positioning of these characters is such that they are somewhat unaware and far removed from what truly went down in the Senate and the political trickery and maneuvering that happened at the end of the war and they might not quite understand how the Empire came to be. Caleb (Kanan) was a young padawan that saw himself on the run and abandoning everything to survive. Ezra was just born or about to be born when it all went down. Rex is the only one that might have some clue given his closeness to high command, Jedi Masters and even senators but his focus was the war, his brothers and, at the end, running and surviving just like the surviving Jedi. In any case, the scene can seem a tad silly with how obvious the realization sounds to us.

Thrawn is by far the most cerebral of the imperials. Only Palpatine has even close to his ability. That is why I think he makes a great villain for Rebels because he is such a cold hearted but wise villain instead of the usual mustache twirling or scary villains.
