The fact that Jaleel White was Sonic in the 90's cartoons makes that Genesis story even better!

What even is Star Wars anymore but a skin suit that Disney tosses onto any generic sci-fi slop they make to try and increase views, it doesnt even mean anything anymore, you could reskin this show with the Star Trek universe or any generic universe and have no difference.

I think this show can be summed up as "it's watchable, but it doesn't really feel like Star Wars".

Jaleel White was incredibly talented, as were the people writing for the shows at the time. The kids in The Goonies who were allowed to act like kids, whereas the kids in movies these days act like actors. Most friend groups in the 80s and 90s had a Mikey, had a Mouth, had a Chunk, had a foreign kid, and one of them had an older brother who was like Brand, which is why all those characters were relatable.

Star Wars is a toughie. It’s a massively commercial film franchise, but it’s also the singular vision of an auteur director. Removing George from the center of it changes its identity. Now that the series is owned by a corporation, there is no single person or author to steer the ship for the brand or for the stories.

I feel like the thought has been "what stories can we fit into the Star Wars universe" instead of "what is the ongoing story of Star Wars?" Unfortunately Disney is doing what Disney does - treating it like an IP to exploit and build things within the framework of rather than as a cohesive narrative work with any overarching narrative or themes.

I know a good number of people think that Star Wars' resurgence is dependent on veering away from the Skywalkers, but I honestly think we need a Grandmaster Luke movie or series. I know it's cool to hate AI and Deepfake but he looked damn good in Book of Boba Fett, and that episode was the first Star Wars has felt like itself in a while.

I think the timing thing has to do with how long it takes Disney to make shows. This was probably conceived several years ago when Mandalorian was still riding high. They can't be agile or flexible when it comes to reacting to audience feedback. Any changes made won't be seen until years later.

(Rich Evans voice:) It's fine. Will it be more than Goonies meets Star Wars? Dunno - how many more episodes do they have to work with after they escape One-Eyed Willie's labyrinth under the spa? I hate that they named the planet At-Attin (sp?). Is the planet next door named Ex-Exwingin?

I feel like producers with Disney/Lucasfilm/MCU, the producers KNOW what the big money winner can be, but of course they drag out the shows/movies as long as possible. In this case as much as I believe the Mando/Grogu movie can be good, ask yourself what the big one is with this property. We all know it’s what the fans have always wanted and they hold off on --> KOTOR. Yea not High Republic, but Knights of The Old Republic. Just do that for crying out loud.

This is totally Star Wars for kid, so I can't be mad at the kids' acting being right out of a TV sitcom. I loved Power Rangers when I was younger, the OG 90s version, and those are godawful to watch as an adult, especially the bad acting. But I ate those back then, so I see this show in the same light, just with better production and a bigger budget.

I can tell you Urkelmania absolutely did *not* rival Bartmania in the UK, indeed I first heard of the character when he was mentioned on The Simpsons! I'm pretty sure Family Matters never even aired in the UK, Full House and Step by Step also went nowhere and even Home Improvement struggled here. I really only know Jaleel White as Sonic, and here Adventures was better know than the SatAM version. I guess we were kind of like a parallel universe back then.

I was on board mostly at first. The details and design, cinematography, etc is excellent. But the pirate aliens' dialog, voices and acting was too goofy and felt like Saturday morning cartoony instead of creepy and alien, which they should have been. They all should have had alien languages that the kids couldn't understand and had the robot with them to translate. That would have uped the realism and creepy alien feeling way more. As it is it took me out of the show too much. Also the brig with the key on the hook was stupid. It's a high tech galactic culture. Why the hell would they even use a physical, 1800s type key???
