I was a Warcraft 3 fan back in WCG 2009. Tastosis was what got me into watching Broodwar. Shows that how casters can impact an audience.

I'm so excited to watch this again as a Chinese fan all the way from that era. I was in college back then and I remember watching it on live stream in my dorm room with nerd chills. The 3rd place game between Bisu and Jaystar was insane as well (if you ever had a chance to recast that!). It's sad that a lot of the great Chinese players back then are long gone now. Some moved on and some reallly struggled with their lives. The Starcraft scene in China just recessed so quickly after this and after Starcraft 2 came out there were barely any broodwar games left. Thank you Tasteless for the reminiscence. Good times.

Btw I'm more than happy to do some translation for you (the fan boards and quotes etc. there was a whole sub-culture to be explained lol) if you ever want to do another Chinese broodwar game! Let me know

This was the first pro game I ever watched. Before that, I had only my own games and some friends' games as a reference. I remember being completely jaw-dropped by how good Jaedong and Stork were and how entertaining it was to watch. It was like it wasn't even the same game I'd been playing. Been a fan since then!

I'm glad you addressed the misinfo that the Korean viewers hid their faces bc they were skipping classes. Yeah, that probably did happen like one time, but the reason they hid their face was strictly cultural and out of shyness and embarrassment. The Chinese didn't hide their faces bc they are very proud by Asian standards but most Asians hate being singled out bc their culture is so community based and anti-individualistic.

Do you have any of the old Blizzcon games? I remember there was a game either between Nal_rA vs Mondragon or Reach vs Mondragon where I saw DT and sair being used for the first time. Mondragon was in the lead, then toss switched to DT and sair mid game and eventually going on to winning the game. This was at Blizzcon 2005

It's crazy hearing the contrast in vocal quality between 2009 Tastless and 2009 Artosis. Like without context on using the diaphragm, it kind of sounds like they had only one good mic between the two of you and Artosis won out.

I donno if anyone remember this, Ogogo was such a Lurker dropping lover, that like 2 years after he wins WCG with his famous lurker drop, we got to see him on the news "previous WCG winner arrested for stealing/thiefing" in Korea, LMAO. That was the time I came to a weird sense of zerg players somehow always find themselves in like matchfixing, or things like Ogogo was doing, LMAO

I just love seeing starcraft presented from this old style perspective. It’s almost a zoomed in kind of look. To me this feels like a more dynamic way of watching starcraft. Armies feel bigger, units move faster, and as a spectator you get sort of surprised when the camera shifts views of different parts of the map revealing stuff that has been going on outside of your field of view. I’d love to hear tasteless view on this subject. Modern starcraft suffers from this to some extent. But league of legends is the worst. I cannot stand watching lol esports because as soon as anything happens, instead of zooming in on the interesting part of the action, they zoom out as to not miss anything which really sucks. I much prefer a choice limited perspective with replayed segments of interesting things that happened off camera. This happens in literally every sport on tv except for modern esports it seems.

the 4 colored rings of the wcg logo represent the 4 dragon factions which "run" this planet. Same in the MS logo, olympics, etc, etc, etc...
@adamv2296
@adamv2296 Ай бұрын
yes tasteless the Red dragon or red faction owns/runs chyna. The Red and Blue is the main factions worldwide also the two principal lodges of f r 33 m@sonry is red + blue lodge actually in all sports/news/media you see Red vs Blue colors or psyop of the factions being portrayed. They expertly utilize good cop vs bad cop psyop on a global scale, at all opportunities. It's a show. The Yellows are experts on "Time" and the Green's domain is anything to do with subterrenean or undersea.

actually SC itself is a game of MEGA disclosure. the zerg race is the vril reptiles. the protoss i perceive to be the annunaki and ofc we are the terrans from terra firma, rock planet. you archons and dark archons who manipulate this planet energetically and are essentially consicousness parasites, cloaking is disclosed, human space travel, etc, etc, etc, SO MUCH. this video game series (idk about sc2) is disclosure about SSP, secret space program. NASA stands for Not A Space Agency.... everything is a show and me and you are "bubble-worlders" to the SSP folks.

Esports were already a thing before Korea, lol. The fighting game community did its own thing. Evolution was a response to competitive fighting games needing a crowning tournament after years of localized events. That started in 2002. Fighting game tournaments happened well before that. Everything was well on its way.
