you don't have to take-off at all to register a ship that you acquired on the ground, just sit in the pilot seat (sitting in the seat requires the A, B or C licence), then go to your ship inventory screen, make it your home ship, you will then see the registration option which you can utilise, you can set your original ship back as your home ship and head back to your original ship, leaving the ship you just acquired to de-spawn once you leave the planet, I have you to fly any ship I have captured on the ground, and have registered them all on the ground where they were, then sold them eventually when I get to a place.

I've had two ships land a few times and when I capture the second ship, the landing point despawns so you can't fast travel back to it and my 'real' home ship. I've learned to set a custom waypoint on the surface map next to the landing zone before changing a captured ship to my home ship. This makes it much easier to find my actual home ship.

The Kepler variants aren't a unique ship, it's a quest for designing a new ship for the Stroud-Eklund Corp and you get one free as a reward for helping the project be completed. But it's nice seeing them appear after the quest instead of that being the last time it's ever brought up.

If you start out with the Bounty Hunter background you can actually cripple and board one of the Crimson Fleet Ghosts that attack you in the tutorial. They're pretty awful but an option if you want to skip the main quest line and want a ship of your own instead of using the Frontier. Alternatively go for a walk around New Atlantis and you'll get a ship landing near you quick enough. Reference any contraband you find on the ships you can actually sneak them into port on the same planet you capture them if you take off and then immediately land in the port before the patrol vessels start scanning you. You might want to save before you do that in case you aren't fast enough.

If you have contraband and forget and are about to get checked selection a mission and the travel to mission from main screen should fast travel you instantly

With full commerce skill, registering the ship in your own ship menu and boarding all spacers and mercs that attack me. I make a shit ton as a Crimson Fleet smuggler. You get 3-5 sometimes more contraband per ship after a while. Then you have parts, resources, 2-4k ish creds. Guns ammo suits. Way more than 10-12k per ship if you count the main bits.

I really wish they'd Mexico game like this where the consequences for stealing a ship and / or other items were extremely severe, but that the rewards for saving others from Pirates and thieves were quite high. It's depressing where there are no real rewards for being the good guy in a game.

I encountered a Va’ruun hymn randomly after recruiting Jessamine Griffin it’s a good ship to use I upgraded mine but if you wanted to sell it goes for about 2k

A note that might save someone. I went to masada system because it's lvl 75, thinking the ships would be better. Finally stole a ship and it only had 15ly travel. I was stuck in Maaada with no way to leave so I had to load a previous save.... from 8 hours earlier.

Just make an outpost with a ship landing pad and change to your normal ship…

@@LowHangingFruitForest I didn't know about outposts at all, but when I figured it out I didn't have enough adaptive frames for the ship landing pad. I was also lvl 16 on a lvl 75 planet so running through a structuce full of ecliptics wasn't really an option.

This is a helpful tip I learned late into the game the started a brand new game to use it the best. Before I jump into another system I change my difficulty to very hard then right when I get to the new system I change it back to the difficulty I’m use to playing. It helps with ledgendary ship spawns and weapons and armor spawns. I also use this method when I land on planets for the best gear but easy kills

Stole a cargo ship and flew to Wolf . Thinking I would get rid of the contraband and register the ship. Turns out the registration fee is higher than the resale value, yes I was attempting to register from the menu. Gotta figure out how to get rid of it now.

Register in pause menu it’s much cheaper, you can make home ship and register in pause menu as soon as you get into pilot seat of ship you want to steal with your ship docked, and it’ll add it to your fleet and undock you, you can then redock your ship, make home ship, and go on about your day

I came across a Civ Shuttle II on Nesoi but it said it was locked snd i nerded a key to open it. Couldn't find it anywhere. I was mad. It was a nice ship. You'd think the Key would he nearby.

I've been having the same issue after 50+ successful ship captures. According to some posts on Reddit, this is a bug that apparently gets triggered if you don't completely clear a ship of enemies and abandon it. Oftentimes the last enemy you can't find to kill is a turret. Even if it's not shooting at you, you have to 'kill' the turret or the ship is stuck between captured and not captured.

Great Guide Lunar! My personal favourite ''Free Ship'' is the Mantis Ship you can get fairly early on, I'm not too far in yet so I assume there are a lot better ships aha. I just wish you could get more credits for selling stolen ships 😅

I really enjoyed the fact that spacers (and maybe others) will occasionally run from you because you are flying the mantis. But once I got the star eagle I was disappointed with how weak the mantis was comparatively.

How to repair ships you find? Do you need a specific skill? It keeps saying that the ship is rendered inoperable.

If it says that it means you cannot take it no matter the skills you got, usually that message is for quest specific ships.

For me at least, 1 in 5 ships that land is UC or Freestar captain doing repairs on his ship. Even if you kill him, you cannot take his ship. I'm guessing this is what you found. Ecliptic, Spacer, Va'ruun and Crimson Fleet ships allow you to capture and keep them (you may need to lockpick the airlock door first).

I like the Va’Ruun Revelation II. The auto turrets are OP, the lay out and bed location are efficient. 30 light years and space for 4 crew and only takes a few minutes flying round Serpentis. I get this first thing every NG+ and do a quick hour or two grind through Serpentis. I end up with a refined or advanced inflictor with decent mods and pretty much unlimited ammo and at least 200k and a few levels XP. Perfect start of the game reallly

I boarded and took over a pirate ship on a class 75 planet. When I opened the cargo hold, it had a ton of stuff. At the time I took all the legendary weapons, spacesuits and packs plus the 72K credits from the hold and 9K credits from the captain's locker before registering the ship. I didn't realize that after I switched to my home ship, everything else in the hold transfered. Took me a few visits to the vendors just to get rid of all the books, let alone the weapons, suits...etc. Multiple copies, for example, I had 70 copies of Great Expectations.

@@kevinc1167 tidy! I’m using a Crimson Fleet Wight IV at the moment. Upgraded the III to be unstoppable. It’s helpful isn’t it, the only thing that doesn’t go in the cargo hold is what’s on the dead bodies. Gets a bit tiring selling all the notepads 😂

​@Tigs2 Serpentis is best for Va'ruun. Set to V. Hard before each jump, and decrease to a comfortable difficulty level when you get jumped by va'ruun ships. Push through to NG+ though, and you'll start seeing tiered variants up to tier 4 or 5 for most ships, even in shops. The Crimson fleet reaper and ghost 3 and 4 are really good

99% of the time can't steal a ship landed on a planet, have level 4 pilot only time can capture a ship is in space.

Sadly the profit from taking over and selling ships isn't worth it. Just do unexplored bases/areas , loot all weapons 5k+ and vendor them... it's more money and more xp.. I've given up selling ships when i saw a Var'uun ship worth 400k sell for 40k.

Yes. They dont SELL for much but hear me out. When i take a crimson ship for example. I get 3-5k credits from the random chests. Then all the guns they drop can be $10k, then you register it from the menu and sell for about 20k for a class C ship
