It's great to see another update! Your videos are always well made and relaxing to watch. And that Sd.Kfz. 251 looks great! A Berliet VUDB is a great idea for your French forces. But the support group is a must have addition. Before you play Bolt Action, I suggest getting an anti-tank gun or an artillery gun for France as they can take a free one in the rules.

I just found out your channel and loved it. Im currently painting two late war armies (german grenadiers and british airborne) to be able to play with others (small town) but I feel the early war setting is the best for new players because of the vehicles being less important than in the late war setting. Great job so far, mate!

As a general commentary I would suggest that the quickly discounted "fire/smoke" tabs look much better on a destroyed vehicle during gameplay than just tilting the vehicle over or removing the turret. This is assuming you enjoy the game as a "moving diorama" as do I. Also, I find the Warlord plastic kits very easy to assemble with good result but agree that many of the metal fixed weapons and artillery pieces are a challenge to assemble even for the experienced, often without included instructions.

Thank you Ross. You make a very good point. I will keep them for now, but have seen some very impressive smoke markers that people have made on KZbin. The ultimate goal would be to make a few of them out of cotton wool. The LED light up ones are particularly impressive.

May I suggest a AMD Panhard 178 armored car for your French as you can also use it for your Germans as they had about 300 total during the war (Late 1940 to late 1944). And used them in the invasion of Yugoslavia, Greece and the first two years in the USSR front, before being withdrawn and redeployed in France. To be closer to their supplies and replacement parts source. The Notek/ convoy light is on backwards, on the left side between main headlight and spare tire. You don't need to reattach as I don't want you to lose it, but something to be aware of for any future German vehicles you might do. The round part always go towards the vehicle and the bill towards the front, as the light hits the back of it and then a mirror reflects the light forward and the bill prevents it from going anywhere but forward and down on the ground so only the driver sees it.

I will provide one nitpick. The Sdkfz 251 - C wasn’t used in the invasion of France. It was produced slightly after. If you wanted to be fully historically accurate you’d probably want to go with an A or B. However, As Bs and Cs are very similar looking and no one will really challenge you on it. The only variant I’d stay clear of is the D. It’s got a very distinctive back end and was a late war model. Also halftrack where only used by panzer and panzer grenadier units. Another little tip for historical accuracy I can give you is branch colours. German soldier have a colour outline on their shoulder boards that denotes their branch. For example, you blitzkrieg infantry you’ll be white, your MG teams would also be white, your mortar should be red for artillery (I think. I know red is for artillery, but I don’t know if that goes for mortars. But I’m 90% sure it does.) and your halftrack crew should be light green for panzer grenadiers. I noticed you’ve done it for the crewman but in white. Again, no one will question you on it, but if you want to be historically accurate it should be green.

@@MercenaryMiniatures if you want anything on the armoured vehicle side of things, tank encyclopaedia is a pretty good source. They usually have a bunch of different images of the vehicle with all of its variants in a bunch of different cammo schemes that can be a good reference for painting. In terms of infantry, I’m not too sure on the french. I’ve started to do some research into them in the past few months but the Germans are my main field of expertise. Luckily they are also 75% of the internets’ expertise as well. The colours you’ve chosen all match how they should, so I have so criticism to give there. The only things I will say you should look into are branch colours, which are very easy to google. And ranks. I can’t remember off the top of my head what the ranks should be, but if you search ww2 Germans squad organisation on KZbin you find a video that will tell you everything you need to know. Also if you plan on getting tanks (and only take this advice if you want a thematic army and not one you’ll be playing competitive with.) don’t go for any panzer III or IV. There weren’t a lot of those going around at the time. In fact I think the Germans had a about 20 panzer IIIs for the whole invasion of Poland. I’d start with a panzer 35t or 38t, a panzer 1 (which is actual a pretty good model for its points) or a panzer II (which is also a good model for its points.) I wouldn’t suggest you buy from warlord though. They have some excellent models but rubricon models do them better quality and cheaper. Rubricon are primary a diorama model company so they go for more detail. However because of this their infantry models aren’t suitable for wargaming. Simply put, warlord for infantry and rubricon for vehicles… and anti tank/field/artillery guns for that matter. I realise it may be too late now since you already have a halftrack, but rubricon often add in towed guns in bundles which save a bit of money. So keep that in mind.

Fantastic looking model. It looks stunning. The only thing I would query is the number 257. 2nd Company, 5th Platoon and 7th vehicle (for the 6th squad). Most German mechanised units had 8 (or 12) companies of 3 platoons of 3 squads.

Nice model, for adding variety to your force you could add a command version of this halftrack, generally the platoon commander 's vehicle was armed with a 3,7 cm. Pak 36 AT gun ir, more rarely, with a 2,8cm. sPzB 41 on the front mount.

Nice video! Videos such as these I find are relaxing to watch while trying to sleep or even to see how a particular kit is put together. Based on somethings you have said I would highly recommend looking at "Battlegroup" as another rule set to potentially explore if you ever would like a more realistic/historically minded game. The beauty of historicals is you can use them across various rulesets that cover the same period!

@@MercenaryMiniatures Personally CoC is not to my liking (but I understand its appeal) but it has a ton of cross over with BG, if you have a 1940 French/German platoon built following historical composition (models with the appropriate weapons/representing noncomissioned officers etc) then it can be used between both systems without any changes to models (perhaps minor ones in the unit organization in game but with individual basing thats not a problem). Bolt Action is more similar to Warhammer in the sense that you can allocate weapons as you see fit instead of outfitting units historically with the option of plausible RL changes (Not a knock against BA just pointing out the difference.) Also right on for choosing 1940 platoons! Its a generally unique time to game compared to others and having a platoon of Germans in this time sets you up for so many other interesting opponents if you choose to model them (BEF, Poles, Dutch/Belgium, Barbarossa Soviets).

Great looking model. On the subject of basing, I do base all my models as it gives them a little more sturdieness ( is that a word?). Wheels can come off at times, even complete tracksides. And it looks good. As for artillery, I just bought a metal 15cm SiG33, no instructions, so looking at the pictures and fit before gluing. But the pics look good.

If you really wanted to you could make a detachable base for the vehicle and some magnets to the vehicle and base

I would suggest your next buy would be the rule book and some order dice for both sides. On f/b they have a Bolt action buy and sell group page, maybe worth joining that or e-bay? I don`t like bases for vehicles, but you could make a dio and not glue the half-track to it.

@@MercenaryMiniatures I was helping out at a living history event and got talking to the guy who owned it he offered me a spin so I jumped at the chance lol.. That same weekend I drove a Kubelwagon, BMW R75 and a Zundapp KS 750 sidecar outfits. They were short of licenced drivers so I was in the right place at the right time.. Ended up driving the Zundapp back to the guys lock up for him which was a 2 hour spin through towns and villages in a convoy of WW2 vehicles... What a Weekend that was..

Enjoyed your video. For me the transition from model/diorama builder to wargamer has been very gradual. On everything from individual models to gameboards I've had to factor in what works best for one vs. what is adjustable for various scenarios. No right answer here but I'd advise against basing vehicles. It's already tough enough when you've got Opel Blitz trucks painted up for North Afrika and then having to buy more to paint up for Barbarossert yellow vs. gray). At the end of the day, do what makes you want but optionality is king.

The front axel on this kit and wheels are verrrry fragile and feels like it would snap easily... Im going to pin the next one i get and also consider putting them on some sort of magnetic base.

I didn't have much of an issue with the front axel to be fair, but after some game play and handling we will see how it holds up. A magnetic case is a good idea. Best of both options. If you find any good way of connecting the magnets, let me know.

@@MercenaryMiniatures I mean if you had a thinner large manet you could probs sandwich that inbetween the crew compartment piece and the lower hull? and metal sheet under the actual base. A strong magnet/s i would imagine would attract quite well. Or the other way around. Metal sheet sandwiched in between the two pieces and magnets in the base. Experimentation needed obv. Mine is stuck together now so cant experiment. Actually.. you could just get some thin sheet metal and stick that to the bottom of the vehicle aswell, That wouldent be noticed.

Hi, a quick tip for building the Metal fixed weapons, use super glue and a pinch of Baking powder , the baking powder sets the super glue instantly and also strengthens the bond, Oh and if you are looking to increase your armies I can recommend "Weldon Tabletop Gaming" excellent service and price.

Maybe its a dumb question but why permanently attach the vehicle to the base if you could just make the "base" as a small diorama, put the sdkfz on there for display and take it off for gaming?

Could you tell us what scale these models are? I looked at the site and it describes them as 28mm, which seems an odd size. 28mm to what? Are they 1/76th or 1/72?

1/56 scale so sort of between 1/72 and 1/48. In fact Warlord figures approach 1/48 scale for vehicles as they use what is termed heroic scale.

So I've been doing some research on the forces involved in the Fall of France and wanted to provide some information to take onto consideration for potential expansion with tanks. The most historically accurate tanks to use for the French and Germans in a 1940 invasion of France scenario would be the Panzer II (making up nearly half of the German tank forces) and either the Renault FT 17 or Renault R35 (both of which made up nearly half each of the French tank forces in 1939) Panzer I, 554 Panzer II, 920 Panzer III, 349 Panzer IV, 280 Czech built Panzer 35T, 118 Czech built Panzer 38T, 207 Command Tanks, various types , 154 For a total of 2,582 tanks fielded for the Germans. The French had ~3254 tanks estimated to see combat with ~2650 Renault FT17s and R35s Being produced before September of 1939 and were by far the most produced tanks by this date. The French would have relegated the older FT17s to reserves and 2nd line units but they were pressed against the wall and had to make use of what they could bring to bare. They did produce a total of 640 Hotchkiss H35s prior to September of 39 and would produce 1200 by 1940 and they would have probably used this before they would the FT17s so maybe the R35 and H35 are the two best picks but FT17 still had plenty of numbers

I'm getting back into bolt action after years of not playing it. I'm doing both German and French as well (though my Germans right now are the DAK) it was you that convinced me to do French when I learned about atlantic games models from you. I love dumpy early war tanks but didn't want those metal minis from warlord.
