Great information. Some of the organizations I work with can’t survive without formal partnerships. And, the one thing I’ve learned-I prefer warm introductions over cold. So, if I’m looking to partner with an organization, I really work my connections hard. Usually, about 40% to 50% of the time I can find a connection. Because, as you know, especially with for-profit organizations, often making first contact can be quite challenging. Great information, Amber!

Sounds like the Big Bang roommate agreement. Do you think a clean sweep organization and a rescue mission...collaboration work? I want it to because of the possible partner, but fundamentally we have different goals. I want to save souls the other wants to take them. I guess the question is, can a tiger change their spots. Could a vegan cooking school and a grief recovery program work together? For instance how would a marriage work without such same expectations written or unwritten. I’m wrestling with wanting to partner with a wrong organization just because the chemistry of the leader and myself is magical. Do you see red flags, and am I past rational thinking thinking anyone can change. Thank you for your work, I am captivated by your content. Best nels

The missions of the two orgs don't have to be exactly the same for a great partnership. I know a technical college that partnered with a nonprofit restaurant in order to offer cooking classes to students - it was a great partnership!

When you have a partnership with a sports organization and a school or other non-profit. How should you account for numbers, meaning participants, who gets what funds. What is the best financial practices for this. Ty

Not all partnerships are financial ones, but in your example, I imagine you'd determine needs and costs for each organization then just agree together what is fair.

When writing to partner with another organization, what suppose to be the content of the proposal

I would say you would first start by inviting them for a conversation (vs send a proposal as your first action). If you get to the point where both organizations are willing to consider a partnership, you might write a Memorandum of Understanding / Agreement to outline the details of how you will partner.
