Hello Flexiny, thanks for the news of a Rover rescue. It is a model that is starting to become rare on our roads. Congratulations on restarting after such a long period of 'sleep' and this test drive

I also have a rover 216 cabriolet from 1994 and since 2015 I have not gone with it but this year I decided to recondition it being very rare and even the only one in my country and now it’s a beast. Some very good cars!❤️

This is a Rover 216 GTi. I had one back in 2004/5. It was a twin cam, 1600 EFI engine that was really nice and sporty to drive, plus full leather, tilt/slide sunroof, heated seats, it was well nice.
@CounterStriker0130093 жыл бұрын
Twin cam make me remind the AE86 mod from Bunta :)
I used to own one of these, the D16A9 DOHC, 130bhp but not enough torque to drag me out of bed! 😂😂 I kept tellling myself I should have bought the 220GTi with the twin cam 16v princess engine. 😂

When I heard the starter I said "that's one of the rovers that's got the Honda engine" 😄 this is one of the best car I ever saw on this channel, low mileage and no body damage... must have been stopped because the engine was burning a lot of oil, judging by the low level and the blue smoke from the exhaust... which is strange for and Honda engine with such little mileage!
@flaviohenriquemoraes87703 жыл бұрын
Old oil in the engine pan causes blue smoke. The oiil had 10 years ago

When it still new no blue smoke from the exhaust... after running for years , eventhough with low mileage japanese engine ...must be replaced @ change new engine oil ...! Follow the time usage period accordingly ...! If not it will affect your head valve , piston ring , piston worn-out due to over heated or because running with less engine oil level ...! Obiously during the first attend flexiny to the engine oil deeper it seem soo dry ...! great advanture , im still driving my mitsubishi mirage 1999 auto 1.5 dohc , change the engine oil every 5000 kilo , semi oil 10,000 or fully sycthetic 15,000 kilo , we call it in malaysia WIRA all in good condition inside like new ..! Once body spray new paint ...! top-speed 208 kmph , 1/2 a million kilometres running , never overhaul only replaced the timming-belt every 70 thousand kilometer , flush your trasmission and brake fluid every 30,000 kilo ..., its going to be 23 years of age ...! other than my 940 auto single turbo ...im happy , so sad when i saw nice and sporty look just left to be a junk old car ...! T.q flexiny for giving a new life to this japanese engine car , to buy and import to my country the import duty tax will be very expensive ...you able to buy another similar car with the cost of the tax , not worth it , yet i luv the car , regards from malaysia .

Could be a stuck ring or valve as well stood for that long, but yeah, unusual for those D series to burn so much oil.
@passokita2 жыл бұрын
Probably it is a case of overheated engine, which not only engine head has been damaged but also piston rings and cylinder honing got lost. It's very common. Customers go to the repair shop but they prefer to fix only the engine head instead of whole engine. The engine will work, but it will show this dense blue smoke leaving the exhaust and it will consume huge amounts of oil.

@SpitfireFortyFour2 жыл бұрын
@@joshuacooch4789 The Sterling was an early version of the big Rover 800. The first few years they had quality issues, then they got it all sorted and they were great! However the problems with the early cars hurt their reputation. So they pulled out of the market before they really gave it a proper chance. Shame because the Rovers were really good cars.

Fantastic, I am so glad to see a video on one of these cars. I own one, just like that! a 1991 3 door in red, exept mine is a basic 214S, not a fancy 216GTi! It was my first car and I love it to pieces. I do also own a 1990 416GSi, with the same engine which I baught as a project to fix up. Those 1.6 engines really are a sweet engine in my experiance! Fuel pump relay, it's behind the stereo console as with the window relay. Open it to most likely find 'dry joints', resoldering the cracked connections should hopefully restore normal function. I had a 1991 216GTi Twin Cam from 1996 to 2001. One of the best cars I ever had and only sold it because I wanted to update it with a newer 220 Coupe. The Twin Cam 1.6 is actually a Honda engine though as it was also used in the Honda CRX and Honda Concerto 1.6i 16. All the other 1.6 engines in the 200/400 model range (SLi, GSi, etc) were single cam Honda engines with about 114bhp whereas the 1.6 Twin Cam developed 130bhp. I think after 1992 when catalytic converters became compulsory on all new cars these power figures would have dropped by several bhp, so the earlier cars would have been very slightly better.

What id do to have a beauty like this one, no matter the state. Many might see a pile a rust, I see a project. Sadly these didn't sell here in Argentina, only the average 4 door Rovers from the same era.

As a British person I'm mind blown that Rovers were sold in Argentina that's crazy
@Toxic2T2 жыл бұрын
@@indiekiddrugpatrol3117 yeah they got quite popular lately. British vehicles were always a big thing here since the old Morris Magnette/ Riley 1500 and Bedford trucks. They even sold the rover 75, rover 216 coupe(not the one from the vid), some xj jaguars, etc. Theres a chunk to choose from. Euro cars outnumbered american and japanese ones.
@indiekiddrugpatrol31172 жыл бұрын
@@Toxic2T that's surprising to me especially considering the Falklands, it took british people 20 years after ww2 to forgive the Germans and buy their cars and even longer to forgive the Japanese
@Toxic2T2 жыл бұрын
@@indiekiddrugpatrol3117 It never had anything to do with the Malvinas. We just kept consuming british cars just like how the kelpers kept travelling to the south part of the country to use our free healthcare lol. The only issue the Rovers had was that the spares were scarce and expensive, but that got fixed after a decade or so. Some Rovers are rebodied Honda Civics, those are a plague here so theres no problems with the mechanical parts I guess.
@indiekiddrugpatrol31172 жыл бұрын
@@Toxic2T yea the honda engined ones are virtually indestructible because 90s rovers surprisingly didn't rust much for a British car the only thing that let them down was head gasket failure which honda engines are pretty immune from
