Well said! When I was 18 in the 80's there was 3 million unemployed. I had a degree place but had to give it up because I had to get a job to pay for myself. Why can't 16 to 18 year old go out and get a job like I did and earn a living. Fight the problem of lack of funds at that end instead of extending the pension age. I have worked for over 40 years now, it is not fair, I will be dead before I can claim my pension, or is that what they want

@@kingsmead646 That might be the case but things haven't change. There are still apprenticeships out there, trades. Some kids in University are going just for the social life, not the course. Why are so many young adults going to University and some are 25 now and have and will probably never work.. Things don't change they go full circle! Doing a degree course doesn't make you better then anyone else or more intelligent, in some cases it makes you more dependant and that's what society is suffering from, people who are dependant on the state. Why should I as a tax payer, throughout my working life pay for kids to 'find themselves' over the age of 16 or 18 and then have to give them more money again and my years when they still haven't 'found themselves'. Also, if I have to go on working to the age of 67, I have to even pay more tax...By the way, I wasn't fortunate to have kids, so I have paid for other people's more then enough. If you have kids, you look after them yourself or don't have them! Look what is happening in France, they won't stand for it.... how much blood and knackering can a body take after 40 years, that's if everyone does it.

We live in France. Jan is 65, I am nearly 64. In France we would be receiving pensions. I hope the French give the government a good going over. Pensions are perfectly affordable at 62. It is about choices. Personally I think supporting those who have paid in is more important than paying for those who come in rubber boats, overseas aid and weapons to Ukraine. Zelensky is filthy rich. The priorites in the UK are all wrong. Net zero is there to impoverish and steal money and tax. I've lived a healthy lifestyle all my life yet got cancer at 47. Still, after having recovered, I felt that I might be able to work until I'm 70. I got cancer again 2 years ago and the ' treaments' ruined my general health and life quality so much that I have no idea how I'm going to work 7 more years until I can retire (if I'm still alive). 🙃 So retiring at 60 would give people some time to enjoy retirement while their health is more or less intact.

Prioritise the people of the UK. Many in the UK will suffer poverty in old age. They will be forced to sell homes or take on debt to release equity. They will be bled. The final juice squeezed out of the orange by the care homes. Boris Johnson solved the social care crisis! What a joke. I always told my friend that we were born in the best generation. I got my civil service pension with a cash lump sum at age 60 and retired comfortably in Thailand. My state pension was paid at age 66. He took his large company pension from ICI at age 58 and holidays abroad twice a year. My heart goes out to the future generation 💔

Everyone should be allowed to retire at 60 if they want to. If successive governments have not invested NI contributions wisely for people to be able to do that, it is tantamount to fraud. Squandering and spending people's pensions would be a crime if it was done by a private company. Those responsible should face consequences, not the old folk who paid contributions in good faith. Young people are smart enough to know that this affects everyone, because everyone gets old (if they are fortunate to do so). Time passes quickly, and those birthdays keep coming around.

I believe I'm right in saying that the first national pension, pushed through by Lloyd George, was payable at the ageof 73. The Welshman was furious, but it was the best deal he could get through the Lords. Back then, I think it was 1906--the only people who were likely to live long enough to claim the pension wold have been those who had lived easy lives-- as Lloyd George pointed out with his charcteristic irony -- the Clergy and, wait for it, MPs.

Seven million NHS waiting list, I cannot find a NHS dentist for my grandson. All these comments are sadly the result of ignorance and wishful thinking. The retirement age for women was actually lowered to 60 in the 1940s, their brothers who had (and still have) lower life expectancies had to keep on working to 65. Women had fought for and achieved equal pay long before the equalization of the retirement age but for some reason believe they are special, the fact that the government has bent over backwards to somehow ignore the lack of national insurance contributions by women who had "caring responsibilities", yet disadvantage those who paid the married women discounted contribution is a real scandal, but never mind, who speaks for them.
