Seriously? I'm just pretending I've got lots of coverage by moving my iPhone. That's what they call it in Hollywood when you have multiple cameras capturing the same action from different angles, "coverage." I know all about that because I always watch those DVD extras called "The Making Of..."

Speaking of good locks, back when I was trying to learn the basics of lock picking out of curiosity, I stumbled upon the EVVA MCS which was qualified by some as one of the best mechanical locks in the world. Something about it being hackable when not installed but impervious once installed. It makes me wonder why manufacturers don't use it more often if it's truly that good.

How does that cam lock compare to Medeco?
@HandgunSafe
@HandgunSafe Жыл бұрын
I've done plenty of lock picking. I can tell you this: The side bar in the M1 lock is not accessible from inside the keyway. This means there is no clever way to disable the side bar first to allow for a picking attack. One's skill as a lock picker is no advantage. Also, the keyway of the M1 lock might fool you into thinking you're looking at a wafer lock, but you would be wrong. The M1 lock is not a wafer lock. The technology should also be able to defeat a bump key, because inside it are plates sliding within plates, and the banks of plates have to be set in a specific order. Furthermore, the key stock is proprietary, and MAKE Locks is not selling blanks. On top of that, the M1 lock is resistant to dust, dirt, grit. So I'll leave it to you to decide how this compares with a Medeco.
@dfloyd888
@dfloyd888 Жыл бұрын
@@HandgunSafe That is very cool. At first glance, it looked like an edge cut wafer lock, like a new Ford or Honda key. The keyway looks nice and seems like it can take a lot more wear than the usual stuff.

Can you RECOMMEND one in the vertical/drop-down form-factor? (like the RPNB RP311F but secure enough that a kid sticking things in holes cannot open it)
@HandgunSafe
@HandgunSafe Жыл бұрын
If you have already decided that your concern is to keep a small child from your gun, and if you want a drop-down styled handgun safe, then you should buy what looks good. You don't need my endorsement of a product to buy it. The safes I recommend are on my Approved list, under Playlists.

Could it fit two full size handguns and a reusable large-ish silica gel pack for humidity control if you remove one layer of foam insert?

I'll have to let you be the judge, based on how the Glock 17 fits. But I was able to fit two Glocks in it. If you're carrying mags separately, that would work.

@@HandgunSafe Two Glock 17's? This would be for a G17 and Beretta 92
@HandgunSafe
@HandgunSafe Жыл бұрын
@@KBoon I put a Glock 17 and a Glock 19 inside it. The only difference between the two is a slight difference in barrel length. Keep in mind, you will want to keep all the foam inside so that the guns don't slide around and sights don't get damaged.

Wanted to drop a tip in case you haven’t thought of it: a few of us around the shop use a basic “tote bag” to truck these around and you can situate that under the seat or in the car to camouflage the lockbox. Think a reusable grocery bag or a laptop bag. Then you don’t stand out if you transport from your car to your house in daylight either.

Super nice lockbox. I didn't really understand what you meant by "temporary" storage. Seems like this lockbox would last decades. So why temporary?
@HandgunSafe
@HandgunSafe Жыл бұрын
If somebody really wants to get into it, that person can knock a screwdriver in the keyway and use a pair of pliers to force the lock. You'll probably ruin the screwdriver, but you could get in if you had a few minutes to work at it. If you watch some of my other videos (see my homepage), you'll see me do this to lesser locks. This is a strong lock, but even a strong lock can be forced, and that's why I try to direct people to my recommendations playlist.

Thanks for this. Bummer that the lock is made in China like so many other things, but for functionality it sounds like a viable option. While you didn't list the gauge of the steel, 11 lbs plus a visual of the wall thickness reveals it's superiority to many other boxes with thin pryable 18ga or whatever it is. I'm guessing your emphasis on "Temporarily" is rooted in the idea that given long enough, someone may come along/may have enough time to cut the cable or defeat the lock in the ways you alluded to. I'm interested in the security of the hinge pin, but if you thought it was a problem you probably would've discussed it in the video.

why do you turn your comments off on vaultek videos?
@HandgunSafe
@HandgunSafe Жыл бұрын
I've turned comments off on most of my videos, especially older ones. The reasons are many. I have no interest in moderating comments, and I won't allow misinformation, disinformation, and trolling on behalf of companies, including manufacturers I don't endorse. There are many, many other reasons I've needed to turn off comments, but those are among the most important.

Thanks for the reviews, but you're making it real hard for me to choose a safe, lol. Am I the only one who thinks safe companies should stop labeling their safe with their brand name on the outside of the box? I feel like that would help make it more difficult for potential inside thieves (family or friends, friends of family, contractors, etc.) to identify and look up. It's like putting window stickers of your cars performance parts that you don't want stolen.
@HandgunSafe

I would suggest picking something from my Approved playlist. Other than that, try not to get caught up in "what if" thinking, as in "What if somebody recognizes it's a handgun safe?" Based on all the communications I've had, a lot of gun owners get paralyzed by what-if (or preparedness) thinking.
@philipb2958
@philipb2958 Жыл бұрын
@@HandgunSafe I tend to live in the "what if" section. I have checked out your recommended safes, though, and it helped me narrow things down. If you have the time, I had a question about the Verifi S6000 or any similar safe. Would the S6000 still function reliably if it was mounted on its side so the door would swing either to the floor or ceiling? If so, is it better for it to swing to the floor or to the ceiling? The reason I ask, is that the hiding place where I want to secure it will only accommodate that orientation.
@HandgunSafe
@HandgunSafe Жыл бұрын
@@philipb2958 Now that I think about it, I think the bolt assembly in the S6000 would work fine on its side. You can always order one, put batteries in it, and test it. Return it if the tests fail. The only thing I don't recall is whether the fingerprint reader requires your print to be oriented the same way for every scan. Some capacitive scanners will scan your print from any angle, once you're registered a print. As for what side to set it on, you'll have to find what works for you.
