Nice work, that steering column can be a bear to get in the right position.

thank you so much for this video. This is the second Hyundai ELANTRA owned had no idea. Does anyone have any idea what the dealer would charge to fix this?

Somtimes when these couplers are really bad, the symptoms will present while driving and can get kind of scary with the steering beating back and forth.

FYI everyone all the connectors are shaped differently and can only fit in one place and the wires are sort of bent into place where they snap in.

Ive had this problem on my 2011 Sonata since about 40-50k miles. I probably have as much play in my wheel as you, but my car is perfectly driveable and it hasn't gotten any worse with 90k on it now. I'll likely never replace this part as im used to the noise and play now and it's not worth the time and effort to do for me. As far as im aware there's no risk of completely losing steering control. If there was I assume it would get much worse before that happened.

You won’t loose control, it’s just annoying and in some cases the steering wheel can start oscillating back and forth. I’ve only seen that about 1/4 of the time though.
