I own a Steinhart GMT ocean one in titanium and it’s one of my favorite time pieces. Reliable, ceramic bezel with AR coating, ultra light, and the design is nothing like the Rolex besides the bezel being in black and blue

Interesting comparison. I don't understand all the bashing around steinhart, to me they clearly are different than Rolies, even if they are inspired by, totally different shapes of case and lugs.

Thank you, they are however really inspired from the 5 digit GMTs and Subs so they are still a homage, not that that's a problem with me 😉

Salut Olivier! I don't know whether it's a sure sign to tell whether there is a Sellita or an ETA movement in the watch. When winding a Sellita I noticed subtle litte clicks indicating the movement is full wound. These clicks were absent will all my watches having an ETA movement.

Personally, I don't really trust the Hangzhou 6460 movement in the San Martin nearly as much as I trust ETA or Sellita. It's worth noting that the 2893-2/330-1 is a much nicer movement than the modified 2836-2 that the San Martin features -- they are purpose built GMTs as opposed to the 6460, which is a day/date movement that had its day indicator replaced with a GMT hand (which is also why it rotates counterclockwise when setting it, as opposed to clockwise like on the Swiss movements).
@Horologique3 жыл бұрын
Yes you are totally right about that one. For me the movement is one of the main arguments of the Steinhart
@peteraprile3602 жыл бұрын
Re: your question approximately 11:00 minutes into the video...the paperwork that came with my Steinhardt GMT "Pepsi" purchased in May 2015 indicates the movement (ETA2893-2). They must have changed their paperwork since then.

I will really throw a cat amongst the pigeons here now. Why not compare the Squale 1545 GMT ‘s against the Rolex & San Martin GMT’s . I personally think Squale are great watches , well built & great quality. I know there are quite a few “haters” of the brand ... which I don’t get . At the same token everyone is entitled to their opinions

@@timeiseverything4 mmmm I think you could be right but I already have a vintage GMT and I love it. If I do decide to get one with an NH34 I would not want to pay $750 for it. Thats just me though. You do you.
@timeiseverything44 ай бұрын
@@etebol low spec NH 34 gmt's are $400 often. 749 don't seem bad for titanium. Ceramic bezel. Swiss lume. Screw bracelet. USA brand support and more specs I'm probably forgetting. Not to mention insane water resistance that they actually tested to depth in the ocean. Steinhart just has swiss made going for it which these days means all parts made in Asia except movement and supposedly assembled in Switzerland but with Swiss labor costs and prices some Swiss brands are often sold for that's obviously up for debate. Alot of shady stuff goes on in that department. I can't say any particular brand but I promise you some are having watches entirely made in China or Thailand then shipping to Switzerland where they attach the bracelet. If the watches ever enter Switzerland at all. I say this because a lot of shady things go on in the fashion industry. For example I used to have a friend that worked in the clothing business in New York. He told me a story. The company was having suits made, Italian suits that were selling in a New York department store for big money in the 80s. What they would do is they would they would have the suits made in Yugoslavia. Then they would make their way by train to Italy with fake customs documents. Custom agents would be bribed along the way. The suits then arrive in Italy where a tag would be sewn on the inside that said "made in Italy." They would then be exported to the United States to be sold in New York. As Italian made suits. So if people think that kind of stuff doesn't go in the watch industry they're kidding themselves. If one is buying a $300 watch that says Swiss made on the dial and it's new. It's questionable. It's kind of like those STP Swiss automatic movements. They are so cheap to buy wholesale to put in watches. No one will ever convince me that they're actually made in Switzerland.
@ThisIsDavesGarageАй бұрын
Unfortunate they're so big lol. 42mm and over 14mm thick? No thanks. I have held real Rolex, Steinhart, Omega, Longines, Tudor and yes the Steinhart quality of brushing/finishing is not as good as the rest but when felt in hand it feels really solid and well built. The Swiss movement keeps great time, the clasp is small, female end links, screw links, smooth and small sized screw down crown, bezel with no backplay, small 39mm size, 300m WR, under $600, it's hard to complain about the Steinhart despite being slightly inferior in finishing. Also, the packaging of Steinhart is better than most watches under $2,000 lol.
