Why build more when the dealers’ lots are full of previously built unsold vehicles?
@garrettsmith265423 сағат бұрын
The problem is, laying off your workers won't solve the companies problems. The best thing to do is lower the prices on these vehicles that are rotting on dealer lots, just to clear the crowded inventory that the dealerships have, and bring back what people want. The fact that Stellantis is busy laying off its workers is problematic. It's not gonna solve anything, but lead the company deeper in debt. You don't see Ford or GM laying off their workers at the rate that Stellantis does. Something has to change for Stellantis, because this can't continue.
@3rdpig22 сағат бұрын
It was only a few days ago that GM announced laying off 1700 employees and if I remember correctly it was back in June that Ford laid off 1600. As desire for EV's drop those production lines will close and those employees will get the axe. Also, as cars keep going up in price, down in quality and the economy continues to falter, cars won't sell and employees will be sent home.
@garrettsmith265422 сағат бұрын
@@3rdpig I know that GM layed off 1700 people. I'm saying that Ford and GM doesn't lay off workers every 2 days like Stellantis does. Stellantis is laying off its work force too often.
@michelleperiard177122 сағат бұрын
GM and ford will be next! EV does not need the man power they have at the plants! This transition alone is why you’re losing your jobs!!!
20 сағат бұрын
@@3rdpighonestly boss, don't stress too much about those 1700 that got laid off. That's for a retool. If they lay off the skilled trades at that plant, that's when it's time to start sweating heavily. Skilled trades doesn't get laid off during retooling so if they do, yup that plant is all but done.

TK it's crazy. I've maid it known here I was a 5 year electrician for them from 19 to July of this year when I told them pack sand. Just started last Monday at GM Factory ZERO. There's 4 electricians that came from Warren in my new hire group. Every one of them told me it was a shit show over there. Just like at JNAP. Believe it or not last November I heard Tavares say something so intelligent, I thought I slipped into an alternate time line. He was at some symposium in Europe. One of the people in the audience asked him why Stellantis hadn't gone all in on EVs in North America like Ford and GM. Tavares told the guy we need to see what happens in the elections in the US and Europe in 2024. Sadly he didn't realize how poor people have become here in the US.

I do not claim to be a car industry genius, however imagine if they just committed to building vehicles that people truly want and sell that at a price that people can actually afford!

Mt TK, keep up the great content. Perhaps we need to look at how Henry Ford's Model T was produced so the average worker could afford. It's hard to believe how mid America can afford reliable transportation anymore. Lets look at 2010 ... in 2010 a Camry base MSRP was $22K and today 2024 Camry is $27K 2010 Ford F150 base MSRP $23K today 2024 Ford F150 $39K

Here’s the crazy part tho. After working in a shop for a few years in the early 2010s. Most, not all, but most the Chrysler products we worked on were absolute garbage. build cars that people want at prices they are willing to pay.. that said the US government is at as much fault in this as stellantis.. the CAFE standard have killed the HEMI which was a huge chunk of protift.. despite the "hemi tick" and the early timing related issues and such people kept buying the 5.7s... 90% of the rams I see on the road have a "5.7 HEMI" badge.. I chose ram for my 3 over other trucks simply because of the Hemi... I seriously dont think the HEMI was tavarres doing.. that was the US government trying to squeeze automakers so hard they have to make nothing but EV's.. EV's people arent yet ready for on a large scale... on paper the hurricane could be a good engine.. but it isnt.. it was a rushed design.. CAFE or tavarres? probably both CAFE and corners cut.. like I mentioned earlier.. the cash cow jeepo wrangler has real competition now like it never did in the past.. just maybe they should bring sme of those entry level hatchback cars here to the US to the people who cant (or dont want) to afford the overpriced SUV's and trucks... i had high hopes that was going to happen with Peugeot in the picture... something better than the hornet which no one wants.. or the dart (past life attempt) which no one wanted either.. both do to poor execution... and now that the fed lowered rates a 1/2%, and everyone sees the statements made about reducing inventory even more buyers are going to sit along the sidelines till STEEP discounts happen... so where are they???

Selling less vehicles but at outrageous prices is the new business model. They discovered they can survive and profit by catering to the top 10%, and the wannabe ballers trying to impress the neighbors. Less vehicles = less workers, less dealerships, less recalls, less warranty repairs, less service people, less salesmen. Just keep profits high on the fewer vehicles they move.

Are you out of touch? European car makers are laying off hundreds of thousands of employees. All of them have had a drop in sales of around 50%. And that is happening right NOW. They are only going to be making half the number of vehicles they made last year. Most of that is caused by the EU and the UK governments, part of it is caused because their prices are just too high, and their vehicles are loaded with GARBAGE nobody wants. It is expected to get much worse. In fact, all the European car makers are expected to go out of business.
