And with a primitive race, you could even have the possibility of getting an event where you can actually try to warn the primitives (provided their ethics wouldn't make them Fanatic Xenophobes, since in that case they would very likely never listen to you and would just be outright hostile to any attempts you made to speak with them) that their world is dying and will explode in just a few decades, and in the process you could offer to allow them to become part of your own Empire (and thus have all of the primitive pops on that world move to either your Capital [if it's appropriately habitable for them], or to your nearest colony world that is closest to their ideal level of habitability or help them find a new homeworld (and in the case of the latter they could then become your Protectorate with a massive *permanent* increase in their opinion of you....since you literally saved them from dying along with their homeworld when you could have just as easily left them to die with their planet).

I played with a mod that allowed you to set the countdown to 10 years. But honestly, the negative modifiers weren't as bad as the ones Paradox put on the start. It ended up with a supernova instead of just the planet exploding (so your starbase gets pwned as well). With the mod and 10 years time you basically had to settle the first planet you got - without a care for its habitibility - and it would cripple you so hard (you would still lose pops because there is no way to earn enough credits to resettle them all) there would be no way to survive, if it weren't for the brain dead AI (even on Grand Admiral). But dang if wasn't the most fun I had min-maxing my start.

Managed to get a colony up and running but was limited in space and development with early game tech. Then the bad news: 2 genocidal empires to my north who quickly ate the normal empire that was a buffer between me and them. Despite getting a few more colonies up I was way behind and got fanatically purified shortly after, not being able to properly defend myself. Was fun though.
