OP should have told her dad that she did have loyalty to her family - her nephews. By telling Gerald that her sister had abandoned them with her, she did the right thing by ensuring that they would be cared for by their father while she worked from home. It is the right thing for him to pursue full custody of his sons to make sure they are not neglected by their mother and OP was correct to support this. Even if she had argued against it like her dad wanted, Gerald would most likely have stuck with his decision anyway. Her dad is wrong to blame her for her sister losing custody as the fault is purely her own for neglecting her children. OP shouldn’t listen to him, it sounds like she would make a good mother :)

Lucy wasn't a good mother and spouse. She was irresponsible with money and was teaching her kids bad behavior. If jerrold was to keep allowing his kids to become entitled and snobby future adults, they could end up like their mother.
