This is just a quick summary of how much it would cost you to do a Ph.D. in the US. There are so many variables but the video would be an hour long if I covered everything. As I said, it varies based off of country, state, and type of university. I hope this is helpful for those aspiring to pursue higher education. Much love xoxo

@@arnonym113 Not as much as in America based on the google search. I have a friend who got a medical degree from Germany and came to US because US pays much better to physicians. Physicians from the countries with the single payer national health insurance have lower salaries compared to the USA. Do the research or google search like I did before you make a such wrong statement.

Hopefully this helps: 1. Watch how other people speak (insert your inspiration here, Steve Jobs, etc.) 2. Film yourself telling a story that has a beginning, middle and an end. Make sure it has meaning, don't do public speaking solely for attention. 3. Watch the video and reflect on what you can do better 4. Tell the story to real people, make sure they're listening to you first, gauge how they react, then reflect on what you can do better 5. Repeat

Thank you for such an informative video. I hope you keep on doing videos concerning education. I feel like now a days people are pushing education to the side and are more concerned with social media. It's really awesome that you can be that person to do both. To show young women that you can actually have it all; you can be beautiful, fit, educated, and have a big social media following. You're an inspiration to many young girls out there. Also yes I do want to see a video on that research you talked about in your comment. I have a young friend who was diagnosed with brain cancer, fought it, went into remission, and then out of no where spread into his whole body.

I think as expensive as the education is, the life is what really gets you! No one reminds you about the cost of rent, and food, and having any bit of a social life. My Master's degree alone cost me around $70,000 when you factor in all those things even though my tuition was only around $30,000! I'm excited to hear about your next steps as I feel I'm in a similar situation as you! You inspire me! You're such a well rounded individual. I hope with my research experience in neuroscience will help me get a lab manager position (1-2yrs) before I apply for PhD. For undegrad I have been 100% dependent on loans to go to UF so I'll be $50k+ in debt. I am honestly surprised I have made it through university knowing I can't afford it and I was so uncertain going to it in the first place. Haven't decided if I'm going to get my masters yet (although I'm leaning more towards it) I had a scholarship my first two years that ran it's course, reapplied with a 3.9... GPA (I've had one B in a history class) and I barely got any scholarship money, a little depressing but I'm determined to turn around and find a great career so this is all worth it. You're extremely inspiring to me, even if I don't particularly enjoy science (though i absolutely recognize its importance) you're drive is amazing and I hope to be like you when I get to that point in my life. Much respect to your recent accomplishments and I'd love to hear more about your dissertation on ovarian cancer in future videos. However, there are some criticisms regarding PhD programs: 1. The most productive years of your life are spent in academia instead of the private market. 2. PhD programs take advantage of this vibrant and youthful faculty (PhD students) as cheap labor. I know you just graduated but how do you feel about these points?

oorrrrr go to a research 1 university and work with someone who has an established background.. chances are they will 1) waive tuition 2) already be a part of funded research projects and can provide a decent stipend for you.. however you have to consider forgone wages as a cost.. my masters degree was fully compensated and I didn't have to take out any loans.. this also went for foreign Phd students in my program.. not all US education costs big bucks.. very important not to just apply to some school because of rank or convenience.. pick a school based on what your interests are and if the people in that department are doing work related to those interests.. reach out to them and establish why you want to work with them.. it will also greatly increase your chances of getting into that program.. don't underestimate networking in the application process!!! The payoffs are great

Just came across your video, I found it informative. I can relate to what your saying about the cost of education. My husband is working on his 2nd PhD and it is expensive, Of course he works full time so he's in his 5th year and probably has 2 years left. Now, he obtained scholarships along the way from undergrad through grad school as well as his first/second doctorate and some of the funding came from the federal government. For his 2nd doctorate he's going to a state school and got a full ride scholarship the first 2 years and then the federal government picked up after the first 2 years.

I went to UCF as well! That's awesome and USF is a great school!! What did you major in at UCF and USF? I graduated with a degree in Biomedical Sciences. I don't know if I can work with just a bachelor's degree within my field though. Do you think I could work in a lab or would I need a master's?

My fiance has just a few semesters left in her bachelors, then plans on going for her masters. We've discussed her going for a doctorate, which I've been strongly encouraging her to do so. I still plan on encouraging that, but I also happen to be having a panic attack listening to the cost of that going further

26,000 in total for spending 4 years to obtain a Bachelor's degree in Biological Sciences??? Here in UC it costs roughly 33,000 a YEAR. Multiply that by 4.

Wish this video was more about what the title says. 3 minutes in and I already met your friends, saw what you had for breakfast and lunch, watched you walk through a suspension bridge but still haven't heard much about your PhD.

I just finished my Master's degree (MS in a social science) at a private university. I want to pursue a PhD, because I want to do research and it would really help me to advance in my chosen field, but I'm feeling overwhelmed by the debt I already have from my Master's degree (luckily I was able to go to undergrad at a public university debt-free). Do all PhD programs cover your tuition?

Anne Futterer Nope. I applied to 3 doctoral programs and the results went as followed: accepted with full funding to an information science and tech program at an East Coast private university, accepted with no funding to a linguistics program at a Midwestern public university, and rejection from a linguistics program at an East Coast public university. I would strongly advise against taking an offer at program that does not offer tuition reimbursement.

Depends on the field. Doctorals for sciences are mostly fully funded. Top programs for other fields like humanities will fund as well; fields like social work, public health and education - if it's not a top ranked program - will charge. Never, ever pay for a doctorate unless it's an MD.

Dang. I go to a public university and (with no scholarship) I'd be paying more than that per year, let alone for 4 years. It's 184K for a 4 year degree.

that’s ridiculously cheap !! my university is $74k a year and that’s just as an undergrad. i only pay $600 because of all my scholarships but i know these figures can be substantially greater for most american students.

I have a strong belief that this is the misery of a failed and banning system. I'm from Brazil and here paying for postgrad tuition is more than absurd. In deed, here the poor can barely get into grad courses and the rich and middle class hate too much the idea of not having society paying for their privileges, but public, free and universal education is a value that we all learned to uphold throughout the years. Hence, private universities don't even care about postgrad. I'm neither criticizing nor saying our public system is perfect. Just pointing out how it makes me wonder that I, coming from a very poor class and not able to have any scholarship granted to me, would completely fail at having my PhD. Having that said it is just so astonishing as paying for a cancer treatment (including meds) here in Brazil. Congratulations on your achievement.

Can you make a video on how you prepare for presentations? I have had about 5 15min presentations this year but in my last year of my BSc degree I am going to be having 30 min presentations and I need to nail the technique! Uhhh the night before presentations is a horrible feeling!!😭 I did fairly well on most of them. Shockingly my first one was my best one lol.
