He made the first one which made it a tie. He was probably relieved he tied the game. "If I miss the second, there's a chance we get the rebound; go ahead basket or ty lue calls timeout and they draw up a play." And honestly how he made it to the line also. LeBron had curry on him and he just whips it past 3 warriors and gets it to hill. Luckily hill was fouled.

SevenSins Surfer JR messed worse than LBJ? What mess up has obj had in that situation technically he is not allowed to call a timeout even if he signals one, cause he does not have the ball, and the refs do not need to honor that request. Only person allowed was JR on court with the ball and Tye Lue as coach from the bench. Go read the rulebook

No way Lue could have called a timeout when the Cavs bench is on the other side of the court, and there's just 4.7 seconds left. Remember, as a coach, you can't just CALL timeout. The ref needs to be able to HEAR you call timeout and then give it to you. That takes time the Cavs didn't have. This is all on JR if a timeout was going to be called.

Nobody is giving ty lue the heat he deserves, any other coach would've been right next to the ref screaming timeout in their ear, where was lue? off camera. That timeout was supposed to be called by the team captain(lebron) or the coach. You can't expect the ball handler to call one right after he just got a rebound in traffic. That's on the coach mostly... But they refuse to call a duck a duck. Lue is an idiot. And he should've been reduced jr's minutes in the first round, but he got a petty dispute with hood, doesnt think Jose is good enough, and refuses to play cedi Osman. And doesnt give Korver the minutes he deserves... let's not forget, in game 2 he was burning through timeouts like he had infinite amounts they had 2 timeouts left halfway into the 3rd quarter... that's bad coaching period.

Tbh I have no problem with how LeBron handled the situation at the time.... I mean he had to drop 51 points in order for his team to have a chance to win that game, as well as every other game they've played this entire playoffs.... he's literally carrying this entire team on his back and because of a costly mishap like that they blew a chance to possibly turn things to their favor early on and steal a game..... LeBron is a superstar but he's also human and a majority of us would have had that same reaction he had towards J.R Smith.... let's also keep in mind of another superstar like Jordan..... how many times did Jordan yell at Longley? at Cartwright? at Paxson? It's win or go home and LeBron is a competitor

I'm not a LBJ fan for the longest time, but these few seconds I give him all props. When JR dribbled the ball out of the paint, he reached out for a pass while he's in the open. When he didn't get the pass and he got defense coming up he signaled JR to shoot himself. When he realized JR was not shooting he signaled for a timeout. In mere seconds, he tried three separate solutions, each one giving their team the best chance under then scenarios. The fact that none of the three things he called for took place was not on him.

If George hill doesn’t choke at the free throw line the game is over, don’t really understand the fire storm about Smith. He technically didn’t do anything wrong in that play, he got a rebound over a 7 Footer, and basically sealed them from giving warriors the final possession in regulation.

This new footage is suppose to be about Lebron finding out they had a timeout? Maybe I'm missing something, but it looks like he tried to call timeout on the floor when all of this was happening, he obviously knew they had a timeout. So, I don't understand this discussion. If anything, the new footage shows Lebron reaffirming they indeed had a timeout, but was confused the coach didn't call it.

Lebron knew they had a timeout... he’s asking the coach if they had one because nobody called one. He didn’t want to call out the coach and be like “why didn’t you call a TO.” So instead he asked Did we have one. Lebron was probably confused because nobody on the bench called one, so in his head he’s probably thinking “maybe I was wrong, we might not have a TO.” It was Lues job to call it, but I think if he did call one he would have gotten crushed, jr had a wide open look, by the time everyone realized what jr was doing it was too late to react.

Comparisons aren't relevant here. In fact Lebron is probably a better leader than Jordan so I understand him taking a minute to process what had happened, but after that he should have rallied his team for OT. To sit there in complete silence for 3 minutes makes sense if they had lost the game, but there was still a chance for them to win.

First off, there are always comparisons on these shows..., somehow Lebron gets blamed for a situation in which he had no control, the occurance was so rare that I don't think any person/team could have recovered... the entire bench was in shock, Lebron is usually a decent motivator to his teammates all I'm saying is that this is definitely one situation in which he deserves a pass....

Missing one of two free throws in order to get a rebound and score 2 more points is actually a play basketball teams call. They also use it to run out the clock in certain situations. The missed free throw is not the issue, because it would’ve given GS the ball and they would’ve called a timeout (if they had one) and set up a play. JR should’ve done one of two things: attack the basket or immediately call for a timeout so CLE could draw up a play.

Why does everyone assume that if JR would have acted correctly, they would have for sure won the game? Yes they would have had a chance to seal the deal but like he himself said, he wasn't gonna make a shot over running KD and Klay. I feel like at least he caught the offensive rebound when everyone was counting on Hill to make it. He did make a dumb move but it's not his fault they lost and too much blame is put on JR. AND if Hill made the shot, warriors would have one last chance with the same amount of time JR had to pass or make the shot. These are just a lot of IF's and we will never know.

It was on the coach to be more aware to call a time out even more so than the players. How can the coach not know if there is a time out or not in this type of situation. Even before George Hill took the last free throw someone on the Cavs team including the assistant coaches should have been aware if a timeout was available or not.

I don’t know why ppl are getting mad at JR. The dude got the rebound and it went to OT! If KD would of rebounded the ball, Dubs would of have 4 seconds which is eternal for this group to win the game. It went to OT. Blame Hill for missing a simple free throw. Just saying and I’m a Warrior super fan!

omel7 Am a Warriors fan too but I don't think Hill choked. He at least tied the game. Split free throws are so normal in NBA especially final seconds that's fine. Problem with JR is he didn't even took a shot or called time out!? A circus shot will do, at least shoot it.

it's easy for Max to say that after the fact. but at the moment, I don't think any player can function properly. The overturn call itself could've killed teams momentum, let alone what JR and Lue did.
