They punished him just enough so that they can say "We took action", but not enough to ruin his career, like they did with Stephen Lee's who became their scapegoat. Higgins was back in time for the next world championship, which he won, when in reality he shouldn't have been allowed to step foot in the Crucible. It is the biggest disgrase in the history of sport, no matter how you spin it.
