I like your second technique to adjust the boat angle. We have done this before with one minor change. We run the second mooring line through a chock or snatch block at the stern, then up to a winch. From there, we can adjust the mooring line and anchor chain. Sail-on!

Stern anchors are the standard equipment in Scandinavia on sailboats but thats mostly to anchor nose in into small islands that are everywhere. That way you can hop on land and the stern anchor keeps the boat straight out from land. I have used the line to the bow from anchor chain to turn the boat towards the waves and it works really well and its also easy to drop the line in a moment to let the boat free if wind becomes an issue.

I like how music from the boat overdubbs with background music for a while,it sounds kakofonic?almost and for sure disturbing and beautiful in the same time.Cheers😉

Excellent video. TY for sharing. I think the second method you described is called a stern bridle. Sailing Britaly described something similar, it was some time ago though so a great reminder. Love the channel.

J'aime beaucoup la deuxième technique d'ancrage face au vagues, très élégante. Si un jour je l'essaye je l'appèlerai Hugo ;-) PS: Tu cavites beaucoup quand tu te fait trainer.

I used stern fairlead on the bow on 20M powerboat to primarily reduce oscillation in mooring fields, redirection to swell is a secondary benefit. great vids

Awesome video! I wouldn't say the anchoring technique illustration was "self-explanatory" but the rest of the vid is pure fun and you swimming roped to the boat and then submersing with the camera and out of the water is one of those pearls of videography that your channel has aplenty! Congratz on this shot, thanks for sharing and fair winds!

we use this technique on our small fishing boat (6 meters) to give better access to the water so the fishing lines do not cross. If there is tide movement (in the favorable direction) you can also attach a sea-anchor/drogue to the stern

I used to set up a home made 'flopper stopper' to damp down the rolling and that worked well enough, if it didn't I tended to move the boat and find somewhere better.

We tried version 2 at Double Island Point. W struggled to get the boat around because of the wind getting up. Will try it again though.

Encore une video instructive ! Merci pour tout ça. Après 185 épisodes, je me permets tout de même une question. Avez vous une idée d'un moyen de faire venir un petit voilier à La Réunion car ici, c'est compliqué de trouver un voilier...

How about putting the sternanker also into the direction of the wind. So to say parallel to the main anker into the wind direction. That way the forces of the higher windage are distributed to both ankers and dragging is less likely.

Hi. Here’s my routine. On my 10m sailboat I carry 50m of chain(8mm), manual windlass and new gen anchor(12kg) which sets every time on first try. No margin for error otherwise I have to pull all the weight by hand. Since I always anchor as far away from civilisation as I can, I almost never float on anchor alone. I position stern gently towards entrance of bay. Drop anchor with min. 30m of chain or more depending on depth and each side of bow I tie to boulder or thick tree. Distance between boat and land is min. length and a half of my boat lenghth depending on depth and weather forecast. I always mark anchor position with a bouy but NEVER tie it to anchor. Instead I tie it to a rock which I drop next to anchor because people where i sail when they see a bouey floating they think it is a mooring line. I witness this every year. Althow it is marked as an anchor bouey 4 out of 5 will try to grab it. This is my routine it was prooven good by several strong squalls and so far I sleep tight.
