Stunning Steve Austin and Flyin' Brian Pillman were put together as a tag team in WCW because the company had nothing else for both guys to do. Austin was promised a run with the US championship but Dusty Rhodes changed his mind, putting Austin in a tag team that he initially didn't want to be in. Austin and Pillman made the most of their time together though, and it didn't take long for the Hollywood Blonds to become tag team champions while also developing a healthy fan following.
After having good feuds with Shane Douglas & Ricky Steamboat and The Four Horsemen, it seemed like the sky was the limit for the Stunning Steve and Flyin' Brian. They worked as heels, but fans enjoyed seeing he team in action and as time went on, their promo abilities grew and grew - The Hollywood Blonds weren't just great in the ring, they were becoming great on the mic. Austin said someone backstage at WCW, a booker who also wrestled, noticed the Hollywood Blonds were getting too popular and this was what led to the team breaking up. Austin says if he and Brian would've had more tenure in World Championship Wrestling, they would've fought to keep the team together.

Yep. WCW had a chance if they were smart to have Steve Austin, Undertaker, HHH, Mick Foley and others who were key cogs for Vince in beating wcw in the late 90s. Also they had Hall and Nash before Vince did as well in that same time period as the others. Just goes to show u that WCW didn't have the creative magnitude vince did to give them the correct characters.

These guys were just wrestling magic together; considering the time in wrestling where they were, who they were working under and what they were up against, they were the stars of every show they were booked on (in my opinion) . These two were made to tag together, watching it back, it's almost like they grew up together. They both knew wrestling, knew how to talk on the mic, and knew how to work the crowd to their very limit, so it seemed inevitable for them to team up some time or another. To be completely honest, I was never a big Austin fan until I watched him in the Blonds with Pillman, then I really saw that he was more than what I believed him to be; I actually learned how to enjoy watching him wrestle. Even when the 4 Horsemen disappointed me with their babyface angle, those guys really gave me hope that wrestling was going to get better down the road. Also, they got so detailed with their characters, which was really impressive. Not many tag teams at the time were able to put the next foot forward into their characters like they did. I hated it when they split as a team!!! That was probably the most heart-breaking thing that I've watched in wrestling up to that point, out of everything I've watched, it's on my list of Heart-Breaking Tag-Team Splits.

Been watching a bit of WCW from 92 and 93 and in all honesty I find it better than much of what was on WWF programming from the time. 6:57 I love these old school promo pics where a guy literally just gets his picture taken in a random room. “Here, Mom, take our picture. It’s for wrestling.”

I loved the Blonds. I discovered WCW around ‘91 and instantly became a fan of Pillman, but it wasn’t until the Blonds formed that I really took notice of Austin. The feud with the Horsemen really got them over with me and I was bummed when they got split up so fast, I pretty much lost interest in WCW’s tag division after that until Harlem Heat got established.

21:27 A habit of WCW's that Vince McMahon would adopt in WWE. The "If people the fans like get over instead of the ones I like or they don't get over the way I want them to I'll bury them."

It’s crazy to think Steve went from this tag team to eventually coming up with the Stone Cold character to becoming Stone Cold on screen and being the biggest star in WWE history
