Love this tune - it came out while I was in college, and the whole album is really good!

Steve Forbert still performs and puts on a great show. One of my favorites.

As an underage college student in the late '70s, I actually saw Steve open for John Cale at the legendary CBGBs in NYC. He'd only come up from his native Mississippi a couple of months before. Within the year, he was signed to a record contract. Little did I know when I saw him that he'd be a fast-rising star. Romeo's Tune was his biggest hit. From his second album. Thanks Harri.

Great songwriter. I've been lucky enough to see him half a dozen times. (mostly solo. once with a band) Great every time.

Yes yes YAeSssss! This tune is a classic that should rank in the top of its era! The whole record, every single song is flawless!

Gosh, I had all but forgotten this one and I never could have said who it was. Thanks for the memory John and the review Harri.

He received the kiss of death. The media dubbed him "the new Dylan" when this song was on the charts.

My college roommate used to play this song all the time. Brings back memories.

Well Harri if you grew up in the 70's you would've definitely gotten 1000's of chances for this song to grow on you! Catchy song still today, and he does have a very distinctive vocal style.

I think it depends on where you lived. I’m pretty sure this wasn’t played in the Netherlands back in those days. At least not as much as you wrote. 😉

Steve was the guy with the bouquet in the video for Cyndi Lauper's "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun." My younger sister LOVED him!

Steve has written two of the my all-time favorite lines: "It's often said that life is strange/ah, yes but compared to what?" and "They say it takes all kinds/man, it don't, but they're all here." If you ever watch the vid for Cyndi Lauper's Girls Just Wanna Have Fun, look for a cameo from Steve right near the end, dressed in a tux coming, in the group of folks dancing through the house.

Catchy song, and one that I have always liked since it came out .. Don't think Steve Forbert had any other hit singles, but this still gets played a lot on oldies and easy-listening music stations here in Australia .. His folksy / rock voice sounds a little like John Mellencamp to my ears,

Great reaction. Check out his song “you cannot win(if you do not play)” you will not be disappointed

I always loved the piano in this song. Heard it on the radio quite a bit when I was young, but didn't even know the title of the song, or the artist who sang it, until I typed in part of the words to this song on KZbin.

Steve Forbet is wonderful. Folky Rock. Did the coffee house circuit back in the day. Wrote lots of great tunes. Slightly idiosyncratic.

That's the song he opened his set with at CBGBs when I saw him. Everyone in the place was busy ordering their drinks and few paid any attention to him. Just a young guy with an acoustic guitar and a harmonica neck holder..
