Steve Howe was voted ‘Best Overall Guitarist’ in Guitar Player magazine five years in a row (1977-1981). I repeat --- 5 years in a row!!!! In 1981 he was the first rock guitar player inducted into the Guitar Player Hall of Fame. He was the and is the greatest --- enough said

Apart from being a virtuouso, Steve is also the cleanest and most honest guitarist of all time which this clip effectively illustrates.
@iamboomer.46733 жыл бұрын
Honestly i disagree. From what i've seen from a few songs,Howe has this thing where he alternates from a sloppy guitarist to a clean one. Not bad by any means,actually one of my favourites. But something like the guitar solo of close to the edge,while jaw dropping is extremely sloppy. Also something like the yours is no disgrace solo,and the multitude of solos on gates of delirium also the clap. But then his rhythm section just steels the show by how clean it is.
@lotusglobe26713 жыл бұрын
@@iamboomer.4673 Yeah but COME ON MAN!!! Have you heard how sloppy Jimmy Page is when he plays guitar solos? That's sloppy in a cringey way! Steve's sloppiness seems intentional if you ask me. It's what gives his playing a special edge. When you compare to the guitar solo on Awaken from the original GFTO album to the live version on KTA, the album version actually sounds way cooler. The live version seemed a bit too sanitary (although still awesome). You're being a bit too harsh with Steve's technique if you ask me.
@jskypercussion2 жыл бұрын
@@iamboomer.4673 Steve's solo on CTTH live Keys To Ascension 1996 is flawlessly clean. Remember, back in the early 70's it was really hard for guitarists to keep clean control sound of the guitar live before these new convenient digital systems came out. He is a clean precise player.
@serphvarna41542 жыл бұрын
Im a huge fan but he's pretty sloppy and you can clearly hear his mistakes on official song releases (not that its bad, its cool to notice these details) so i wouldnt call him clean at all

@34tgroan I am sure there are times when a sweet series of chords or picks "comes to you", something new yet strangely familiar at the same time. Record them in any way you can, no matter how short they are, and then piece them together with your heart and you are well on your way my friend. I never thought I could play Roundabout until one day I broke it down and realized the beauty is in its small simple parts...all strung together.

Been playing guitar for close to 30 years now, and I have never seen another guitarist fret out a straight "campfire" D major chord with his middle, ring, and pinky, like Mr Howe is doing. I can see how it would leave your index free to hit bass notes if desired. Heh, you learn something everyday!
