The honey and onion pretzel nuggets are available through Snyders of Hanover, Pretzel Pete's, and through local smaller suppliers for "Country Store" outlets online and in food-producing areas. They're pretty tasty. They also have a peanut-butter filled variety that are clearly a "sometime treat" because after the first five or six, you won't want any more for a day or three. The Xylitol sweetener in the chewing gum helps prevent tooth decay by starving out the tooth decay bacteria, but ALSO it will help MOVE THAT MEAL because it's kind of a laxative.

I just realized that, components-wise, there's no significant alteration between Menu #14 when it was the Fettucine compared to Menu #14 Rice and Bean Bowl (aside from the salt being reduced and the pepper flakes in the Fettucine being replaced by the powdered hot sauce but considering we saw powdered Tapatio in the CCAR prototype, the swap does make sense as the MREs are being improved upon), but here, combining the components like the crackers and pretzel nuggets enhances the Rice and Bean Bowl from an already good entree to a really solid meal, while combining the same components with the Fettucine just barely made it palatable, it really goes to show how the quality and flavor of an entree can either ruin or enhance the meal experience.

You're not wrong, but that would make it non-vegetarian
@Your-Least-Favorite-Stranger Жыл бұрын
@@XH1927 That would be non-vegan. Vegetarians can generally have cheese, milk, butter, and eggs though some people make the distinction of those being "Lacto-vegetarian" or "ovo-vegetarian" - if you have to make those distinctions though, I have no idea what makes a standard vegetarian any different from vegan (excluding the cult mentality). Eggs, milk, cheese, and butter are some of my favorite ingredients - I would never do vegan.

It would still be vegetarian, just not vegan which it didn't claim to be in the first place.@@XH1927
@XH1927 Жыл бұрын
@@Your-Least-Favorite-Stranger Vegans being militant has caused the casual definitions of vegan and vegetarian to at least overlap, if not become synonymous, and you know the government isn't going to go by any definition except the most casual possible. Really, the addition of Halal and Vegetarian MREs is just PR bullshit that harms the vast majority of soldiers who want a decent meal. Just look on the secondary market, the vegetarian and Halal menus are way cheaper than the actual good ones. Also, vegetarians are only marginally less stupid than vegans, so take that as you will, stupid.

Hopefully one day they'll start adding soups to the menu haha. Imagine a tomato soup or pho main in a winter ration.

This explains sooo much! My 1st husband made breakfast for the 2 of us back in the 70s. It included eggs made with paprika, oregano, every other spice in tha cabinet, cheese, and peanut butter toast. Oh! Instant coffee. Didn't realize he was a professional chef by this standard!
