The 2006 Chevy HHR Drive belt (serpentine) gets a replacement. The owners manual says to do this at 150,000 and this car has only 83,000. You be the judge. Link to TOOLS and PARTS I USE...

~ Thanks for posting. My Alternator went out on me at 78K ( I have already replaced the front hubs ) and I figured I’d replace the belt now while I’m in there. Always good to visualize ahead of time. Love the HHR despite these few problems. 2006 LT. UPDATE- cut your Harbor Freight Serpentine Belt Tool to 11 inches, put the Orange cover on it and life’s a lot easier. Removed & Replaced with only having to take off the Factory’s engine hoist clamp. New Belt and Alternator Done!

You can buy the tool at any autoparts store to remove the fasteners. otherwise you will probably break them as they get brittle over time.

Never jack a vehicle on dirt. Always do it on a hard/ level surface. Dont want you to get hurt. Chock the back wheels too if you dont already. Thanks for the video. Be safe.

JUST CUT THE TOOL TO SIZE THATS ALL AND IT WILL WORK IT WORKED FOR ME PERFECT..
@SteveAZ711
@SteveAZ711 5 жыл бұрын
Hi Frank. You are absolutely correct! Cutting the tool will work perfectly. I would have except I wanted to be able to use the tool on other vehicles without having to add an extension to it. That is the only reason I did not recommend cutting the tool. If you want the job to go easier then cut the tool. It will save you a lot of work on this vehicle. Thanks for the comment!

Ok, I just spent nearly 6 hours trying to get a 3/8ths head into the tentioner. You can not get your hand in to guild the wrench into the tentioner tried all the hacks. You have 1 inch of space. I will never again volunteer to help out a belt again without KZbin before. It shouldn't be this difficult for a simple belt change.

Just curious, cant you just put a socket thru that hole and onto the tensioner pulley bolt and pull it down? You would be pulling right (tight), so it wouldn't come loose. At 19:36 you can see the bolt.

There is no really easy way at this. Here is another video on my other HHR that may make things easier to see. kzbin.info/www/bejne/epmwc4qDn82HoLM

hey Panda FPV I really considered doing just that. It would have saved me a little time as well. However, I wanted to keep the tool complete as I have other vehicles that it may work just fine on. Thanks for the comment!

What you are really supposed to do is support the motor and remove the motor mount. This way you can work from the top without removing the wheel.
@collinbyrd6847
@collinbyrd6847 4 жыл бұрын
actually what you are REALLY supposed to do is this way. Because chevy specifies this as the procedure. Doesnt mean there arent easier ways.

There is no way to use this tool on the drive pulley at its original length. Believe me I tried to get at the pulley every possible way. I will be making another video using this tool albeit at a shortened length (have 2 of these and will cut one.) Stay tuned...

I tried a breaker bar and the head space is still too large to fit in there. Check me and see if I am mistaken. Most times I like to do as little work as possible, and this belt replacement was much more work than it should have been.

@@SteveAZ711 Wait until you have to change the alternator. You've got the belt issue plus the alternator is stuck way down in there with no space to take it out.
