Steve, as a junk business owner of 8 years I have to you have the best videos for people in the business that I have seen on youtube. The video on what truck to buy and how to set up the truck is priceless. Thank you!

The content only gets better from you man. I appreciate all the details. It shows you’re confident in your own business. Looking at just over $300 for an hourly rate I would love to see how that conversation happens. I feel like if you told them $300/hour, most people would be so hung up on that number that they wouldn’t hear anything else that you say in the conversation. I’m sure a lot of it has to do with the confidence and your tone on the phone.

Glad to hear you're finding value in these videos! $100 per hour for demo is a pretty standard rate. Thats what we charge, depending on how difficult/time consuming the job may be. I've charged as little as $50/hr. When pricing jobs out to customers, you need to break everything down. Labor per guy per hour, disposal, travel (if its out of your service area), tools (if you needed to rent them) etc. I promise you if I told a customer over the phone, $300/hr they would hang up lol. Not all, but most customers want to have their hand held through any buying or hiring process3. Whether thats junk removal or buying a new tv, they need to feel confident that they aren't getting screwed over. I'm transparent with all of my customers and tell them everything they need to know up front. Which is why so many of them return to our service and recommend us to friends and family.

Curious how much should one have to buy tools or needed items to do small structure demolition ??
@chaseyourdreams79693 жыл бұрын
Hey so how would I charge by the “ dumpster “ for demo? I don’t have a dump truck like you though.. I have a 6.3 ft bed and a 10x5 trailer with built up walls. But it’s also just me, so do you think I’d be better off taking your approach to the pricing or nah? Thanks for all the videos and for how much you impact our lives!!
@SteveConroy13 жыл бұрын
If you're going to charge for labor and a dumpster when doing demo find out how many yards you truck bed and trailer are then look up the going rate in your area. For example if you have 10 total yards (which you might) look up what a 10 yarder costs to rent. If that number is $300, tell your customer its. $300 for a 10 yarder plus X amount for your labor. When I do demo I almost always do it this way because charging by. volume plus labor can get very expensive and the customer will just walk away.

Sir do you pay helper per week o per day or by hour? How much? Thank you for your advice
@SteveConroy13 жыл бұрын
You need to decide what works for you. Are they full time or part time. If you pay be the hour, do they make less than by the day? If you pay by the week what are they making per hour? Employees can be lazy but they are not stupid. Pay them what they are worth to you.

And where do you dump the in Massachusetts the best transfer station that's affordable and cheap
@SteveConroy14 жыл бұрын
Unfortunately there is no transfer station in MA that is cheap lol. I use a private RTS. I pay for a yearly contractor sticker for each truck. The residents of the town that it's in use it to bring their garbage and recycling themselves so they're very cautious as to who they let use it, business wise.

Salem New Hampshire it's like $175 no matter what it is even if it's less than a ton I was trying to get a better price than that
@SteveConroy14 жыл бұрын
@@RyanRKZbin Thats brutal but it doesn't surprise me. There might be some towns on the MA state line that are cheaper. I would recommend a google search for active transfer stations in MA. They list them alphabetically.
@meatballnevaeh4 жыл бұрын
Mellos Transfer station in Georgetown is 200 per ton. As far as I know there is no minimum. I have paid well over 200 and I’ve also paid well under 100. Are you talking about LL & S on 87 Lowell Rd. in Salem New Hampshire? I was going to look into them This week. So you are saying they have a minimum charge of 175???

Do you need any special permits from the city to demo?
@SteveConroy13 жыл бұрын
For this job no. This wasn't TRUELY a demo job. It was more or less removing a floor and cutting up a ping pong table and putting green. If you were to be doing any sort of structural demolition you absolutely need a permit from the town or city you're working in.
@coolguy24eric4 жыл бұрын
Cdl required for that truck? So do you always factor around $300 a hour? Why not charge by the sq footage? People were turning you away at first when you were trying to price demo jobs by the trailer?
@SteveConroy14 жыл бұрын
CDL is not required for this truck. Any truck with a GVWR over 26,000 requires a CDL. I would never EVER tell a customer we charge $300 an hour lol. There are certain jobs where we charge by the square foot and there are times we charge hourly. As for pricing demo, I give my customers 2 options for cost of disposal and we always honor whichever comes in lower. 1) We use junk removal pricing, charge them by how much space the debris fills in the truck. 2) We act as if the truck or trailer is a dumpster and have a flat rate for it.

You need a license to do demo work? And do you have a contract with the customer or is it just a verbal agreement on what you will do? Thanks
@SteveConroy13 жыл бұрын
Do you need s license to do demo work? Yes and no, depending on the work. if you are taking down a swing set, then no. Of you are taking down a house then yes. I would check with the state you work in.
