In the TB vid, Ayden said something during post failure inspection about being able to feel a gap between the cap and rod but he had 2x checked torque before the engine was run. I'm voting for the cap not fully seating on the register as in rather than lightly tightening each rod bolt evenly to seat the cap, one bolt was run down with a zip gun and this jammed the register holding the cap up a bit. Once a bur was created, there was enough torque. After the motor ran a bit, the cap moved around, bolt on the jammed side backed out a bit and the other rod bolt bent.

Back in 1985 I crewed on a 220 + mph unlimited hydroplane. We BLEW the boat up 20 feet from the dock for initial testing. (Improper fuel cell cap and it leaked during the 10 mile transport to the Lake to test). We all voted to fix the new boat instead of using the old hull. By the time we finished, we were WAY behind! The drivers left at 4:00am on a Thursday morning for Miami from Seattle, normally a 72hr drive. They made it in 56hrs including a stop at the crew chiefs' relatives house to shxx/shower/shave. At many times the transporter, trailer and 9,000+ lb boat and 4 spare Rolls V12's never went under 100mph in TX/LA according to one of the drivers.😲. Great effort, Steve! Been there, done that.👍👍

Steve you are An amazing person, my grandfather that taught me everything I know about Diesel engines and Mechanics is exactly like you and exactly the same Mannerisms I loved watching this video you are so comical about how he wanted to just stand there like an idiot while he demanded you take his “your” engine apart for him because he got to excited and destroyed it when you could’ve walked and I know you love your craft so much you couldn’t walk away from that beautiful engine, I know you are such a busy person you will never see this but hell of a video start hahahaha and what a quick and efficient tear down and rebuild as always I’ve learned so many things from you man for real thank you for These videos

There's 2 things that amaze me: One is that you can tear down and reassemble this engine with a crank grind in only about 12 hours. Two is that it almost never fails that Tom, once again, has waited to essentially the last minute to test and find a problem with the car and/or engine he will be taking to a race. Don't get me wrong, I love Tom and everyone at Sick Racing, but you'd think he would plan ahead better by now. ❤
