I work for the gas company Steve, the only time you need an inspector is if we shut the meter off and lock it which is considered a class A, B is an appliance shut off at the secondary and a C is something like delayed ignition not urgent. So if they just shut off the furnace and red tagged it and didn’t have a leak at the secondary shut off or before it on the pipe or we put a dial test on the meter and it wasn’t holding, that’s a different story. But once you guys fix it on a class B, appliance shut off from secondary, then turn it on, you’re good, and if we go back there and it’s still leaking and some “plumber” fixed it, and the problem still exists then I’m shutting the meter off and locking it and requiring that inspection. And on a side note, appreciate this channel it’s helped me out a lot on diagnosing issues and keeping people’s heat on in the dead of winter when you guys aren’t available on a Sunday at midnight.

If you ever get stuck on a weekend call and the motor is tight, you can drill an 1/8" hole on the sheet metal bearing caps, each end and lube the bearing with your spout oiler and free it up until you get a new motor. Saves someone with no heat in an emergency.

Still happy with my 1977 Westinghouse. Original motor that was rebuilt once by a automotive starter and alternator shop back in 1999. 3 story brick home and is never turned above 65. Only thing I change is the filter twice a season and the belt maybe every 5 years, oil the fan every year, and inspect the chimney every year.

@EdgarGonzalez-rw6gq3 күн бұрын
@@SkilledLabor you are right - static pressure is what kills the motor. A lots of heating contractors when installing a new furnace never check for static pressure . This will create pre-mature heat, exchangers, failures, and blower motor failures. Also 3M filters are the worts filters in the market. Furnaces are designed to be run at .5 inch’s of water column and those filter are so heavy on that pleat that I seen furnaces running at 1.6 and higher with those filter
@SkilledLabor3 күн бұрын
@@EdgarGonzalez-rw6gq See it all the time. We always upgrade to an Aprilaire 1410 or 1210 air cleaner, return drop. And after install if static is an issue, recommend further ductwork or at least a return in the basement to get it lower. Also a lot of high statics come from small evaporator coils with new wider furnaces say c and d cabinet (21”-24”). First thing I look for if the evaporator is 15.5” and putting in 21” furnace with 3/4” horse motor, I already know the outcome 😂

What is meant by a 90 + gas furnace?
@Adventures-with-Phil10 күн бұрын
It's the efficiency rating of the furnace, meaning 90%+ of the gas being burned is transferred to heat your home. The higher the efficiency rating the less heat is lost though exhaust and more water(condensation) is created.

Update on the Neighbor... so he had 3 trips from the previous chain store hvac place.. last was a guy in a car.. guess they were giving an estimate for replacement... now update .. this morning sunday .. he had another chain store hvac place out for half an hour.. guy brings no tools just a laptop bag.. Obviously getting an estimate.. then 2 hours later another small contractor (maybe husband/wife) shows up walks inside the house with a clipboard for an hour then unloads his pickup into the neighbor's garage... I am betting they come back in an hour with a gas furnace and replace it... so hopefully he gets some heat. BUT i am betting he called the 2nd and 3rd contractors and said hey i need a furnace can you give me an estimate... instead of .. my furnace isn't working can you come try to fix it... oh they ran out to his house as fast as they could heh. ... 5 adults in the house over 30... not my place to go knocking to figure out how I can be blamed for giving them advise.. I just wish them well.. I am betting they have a new heater by 7pm though. probably the heat exchanger and I think they have a old carrier so not replaceable .. taaaaaaaaah you know .. i will hope the best for them. its not like I am overly watching them.. they are parking in front of my place and going to his because he has cars in front of his house.. so i notice.
