should have checked burner operation after you replaced the nozzle . i've been servicing Riello burners for more than 25 years and can count on one hand the times i've had to change the Programmer or cad cell. In my experience when Riello burners fire this way , I change the nozzle and knock the air back a bit and 99 out of 100 times this solves the problem. A quick way to check if it's over aired is to put your hand over the air intake in the rear of the burner while it was trying to fire then gradually take your hand away once the chamber has heated up sufficiently usually it will continue to run but i always replace the nozzle and adjust the air gate and take a smoke test to make sure i'm still at 0-1 smoke .

I realize how old this video is but the issue was the crusty head over the nozzle. I had this happen to my riello burner and I believe it gets so crusty that the photo cell can't see the flame anymore. It was short cycling and I got it to stay on just by removing the buildup.

That's an expensive way to keep an oil burner running. We had a new one put in over 10 years ago because the old one cracked the liner and almost burned down the house (old unit was from the 70's, came with the house which is around that old). Been running flawlessly ever since, only thing it's needed is a new expansion tank and relief valve (we have hard water because we're on a well, so the relief valve quickly filled up with deposits and wouldn't hold rated pressure anymore).

@@Hubjeep when you work on them for a career and you see how shitty of a design they use compared to others and unavailable parts at supply houses requiring special orders. Work on the hundreds a year as I do and you wouldn't have that opinion.

@@Martin-pr6ps real life doesn't work that way. More callouts for a pos system that constantly fails, eventually the customer blames us. Customer wants a reliable system not a plug.and play on parts for repairs. No company wants to service problem child equipment. Customers want it fixed once not 2-3 times a season, then I have to waste even more time on warranty paperwork instead of running other calls. No matter how plug and play something is, if I having to spend time on several visits to the same home each year for different failures and 30-45 mins filing warranty paperwork when I am loosing money and customers. @@Sctronic209 I'm fully trained in oil burner service and commissioning boilers the first thing you do on any service is connect your oil pressure gauge to the oil pump then you go to your boiler manual and set your burner accordingly.
