everyone knew he was great then....but over thirty years later with all the guitarist that has came since his passing, many good but none better technically and none with the passion. Due to age and going into the military I never saw him live but being from Austin, I was very familiar with him long before he went "national" and was considered a "local boy" here although originally from Dallas. I'm just sad I didn't appreciate the greatness to the extent I should have when he was here and sad he didn't have an opportunity to continue his life and music... still none better....

In fact when he wanted to play with Albert King and record it his label went crazy and almost booted him. They did not want the public to know his songs were other people's songs. SRV was a very non racist honest man and he got that from his mother who used to dance to Louie Jordon and get spankings for it when she was a child. Just a fun fact....lol

@BlindMellowJellyInc Жыл бұрын
in Jr Highschool he used to call himself a black man. He almost was not joking because he worshiped those artists he talked about. His parents hosted party where the whole neighborhood would show up and dance and play cards. But outside that hood was racist as hell and he hated it with a passion.

@fioretti517matt4 жыл бұрын
Relax, in every genre of music and technology, etc., someone came before--Ford came before Ferrari, just as an example--not that Jimi was a Ford, but you get my drift.
@bringo43924 жыл бұрын
roberta fioretti I agree. But the point is that Ferrari had to learn from ford. Srv learned from the greats... listen to his playing he is heavily inspired by Albert King imo... you can honestly hear a little bit of all the black blues players simply because the genre was created by us. So naturally you pick up the habits and develop your own along the way, so I agree with you that somebody came before everybody but that’s just the point there was a before and that has to be respected.

My brother met Stevie a long time ago and was shocked by how small he was. He said he couldn't have been taller than 5'4". He said at first he thought he was a circus performer and then this buzz went through his spine when he realized who it was. You never expect famous people to be short. Just like Prince who was 5'2". These small guys who were just utter giants in music.

Fallacy. He may have seemed small, but all his documents, including arrests (sure the police got it right) say he was actually 5'9. Tommy was asked and said he was 5'9 and Tommy is reportedly around 6'5 or so. Reese is reported to be 6'7. Chris is a little taller than Stevie.

Why oh why did he have to leave us so early!! Could you imagine how much more music/concerts this man would have had under his strap!!! He is the one I would have loved to see in concert the most (Rage against the machines the band I’d want to see)
