A little preview I put together of (at the time) Stew's newest, and funniest DVD, with a clip of the "Top Gear" routine that caused all the controversy in the papers last year. This the first 5 minutes of a 40-minute routine that becomes hilarious, thought-provoking, provocative and intelligent and is the highlight of the show.
Please go out and buy the DVD, it's great.

Stewart Lee is the one stand-up comic whose work provokes hilariously revealing responses of an antagonistic nature. The people who declare their loathing of Stewart Lee are actually a part of his act. You might even say that the things he says to get them going are just the warm-up. His real act is the wave of uncomprehending rage issuing from disoriented critics on comment threads in newspapers and here on KZbin.

tom thomas This is "Emperor's New Clothes" comedy...Lee fans laugh at jokes that aren't even there, safe in the knowledge that this is elitist comedy for intellectuals, and that every one else who doesn't find it funny is simply incapable of "getting it". People like top gear because its beautiful cars being driven around beautiful locations by three guys having a good laugh, it's escapism, it's entertaining and has many millions of viewers globally. You on the other hand aren't funny, aren't cleaver and you're just trying to get cheap laughs by going after someone who's infinetely more successful than you... So I'd be more conscious of the drivel that comes out of your mouth. If you are actually a comedian try telling some jokes.

1:41 the reason he will never be funnier than top gear, im actually sad this is considered comedy, for comedy to be funny, someone must be in discomfort or slight pain (the reason why slapstick is effective) if your going to be all PC and not hurt peoples feelings and be a doormat for everyone to walk on, you must accept you aren't going to be funny.
@alanthe2
@alanthe2 9 жыл бұрын
That's your opinion and you're entitled to it. Comedy is subjective. But to suggest that things can only be funny provided someone suffers is ridiculous. A lot of great comedy is made at the expense of others and I'm sure a lot of people get a kick out of needlessly offending people in the most gratuitous and artless of ways but that's not the only source of humour. I can't imagine how tragic a life it must be to only find shows like Top Gear and You've Been Framed funny.
@rhaeven
@rhaeven 9 жыл бұрын
Alan Hancock There are an awful lot of people in this world who aren't actually satisfied unless someone is suffering. We've always called them psychopaths but that usually conjures the image of a crazed murderer or rapist. In fact there are many millions of psychos who have historically restrained their urge to make others suffer because they are not crazy enough to ignore the consequences of their actions. Then the internet came along, making a nice consequence free zone for expression and now we have all these millions of little fraidy psychos finally able to satisfy themselves with trolling and the like. And that's what we're dealing with here!

I do find it funny that a man who has clearly been offended by a routine slagging off Top Gear is somehow trying to say it is 'inoffensive' and the comedian is a pussy. In fact I'd say he's less of a pussy as unlike Clarkson and Boyle; he doesn't punch down and chooses his targets at the expense of being popular.

I suppose in much the same way this guy can’t relate to the top gear audience, which you know is always campaigning against women’s and gays rights (I guess I have yet to see that episode?!); I can’t quite relate to this type of guy. You know, the scared shivering man terrified of the patriarchy & NPC comedians, who have to yell racist and homophobe at the slightest sign of someone who doesn’t agree with him politically. The one who thinks he’s making the world a better place by participating in what he believes to be alternative, underground PC comedy and values despite the fact that it’s pretty much all that’s being funded by mainstream media atm. I’m not saying he’s wrong or should be unable to do this, just that he shouldn’t delude himself into thinking he’s doing anything different, or that he is above those who don’t.
