Join Stick Mobility certified coach, Chanon Finley, as she guides you through her spiral line strength and stretch workout.
This 50 minute Stick Mobility workout features joint mobilization, strength training, and active stretching. The focus of this class is working the spiral lines of the body. The spiral line is a complex of muscles that loop around the body in a helix shape, starting at the base of the skull, moving across the upper back to opposite shoulders, then around the ribs to cross the front of the body at the navel around to the hips. These muscles are essential for rotational movement.
These Stick Mobility exercises incorporate rotational and anti-rotational movements to strengthen and stretch the muscles that make up the spiral line. Much of the work today is about controlled movement and single leg stability and balance.
We will use the entire Stick Mobility bundle (2 long sticks and 1 shorter stick) a well as a wall and an anchor point on the wall (the corner). I also recommend a bolster, towel, or cushion for your knees as we will be in a half kneeling position for some exercises.

As always, go at your own pace. If you need rest or water, take a break. You can also perform fewer repetitions than I am in the video if you'd rather not pause. This will also give you great awareness on where you are so when you come back and do the video again, you can see your progress!

You're using the right stick....only go much slower to get the full benefits. I have no idea why we in the West want everything quickly. Fascia isn't quick unless it's resetting itself suddenly...whip fast. This just needs to be shown slower and like most Tai Ji teachers would endorse. Too fast...fascia can't benefit from speed. Very sorry to post this...but I do it and I have to go slow to clear my back from trigger points. Myofascial release should be taught with this. It's why I no longer need a foam roller going linear. John F. Barnes suggest fascia is 3D or poly movement. Foam rollers get everything but only temporarily. If you go slow, it's more...permanent in some cases the treatment solves major problems that never return. Slow...not too fast, patience while your fascia finds it's proper home in muscles. Fast Food generation has zero patience for such is the world now. Thx.

Oh Jack! I love these stick mobility sticks! Great for recovery and prep work, but also strength training. You can try some stuff with a broom or dowel, but these sticks have bend in them that allows you to get a deeper stretch.

Definitely Bonnie! You may not get as much flex out of a broom or dowel, but the general properties are the same!

@@ChanonFinley I did it! I see the need for the long stick, but I was able to modify and did the whole workout to within my own limits (like doing 3 reps instead of 5 in some cases). There were things I thought I wouldn't be able to do, but did, and that was a great conquest. I love the mobility work. I have a comment about the "if you don't use it, you lose it". I'm 65, and my take is "If you don't use it, you lose it, but even if you use it you'll eventually lose it anyway. But if you don't use it while you have it, you'll lose it without ever having enjoyed it."
