My 017 is over 15 years old and it hast the oil pipe been changed 4 times and rebuilt 3 times and runs like a champ every time when it is in use.. Great saw.

I have the Stihl 017 which is 19 years old, but looks like it just came from the store yesterday. I maintain it very well and it has never let me down... they are a great saw! Very good Video and very thorough!

Mines been on my ATV for 17 years, and cut many fallen trees. Removed motor from chassis, the other day,, for complete cleaning. Maintenance cleaning after every use. Purchased a new one recently, so when this one dies,, I'll have another. Stayed with 14". It can't last forever, can it?

This video is very helpful and informative.The tip of the bar on my ms180 just not getting enough oil do you have any suggestion to that? its basically my problem what could be wrong what should i check for?

Hi, apart from the advice given in the video, you could drain the oil tank and wash it out well with parafin (or some other solvent), check the oil pump drive quill and worm gear, or check the oil holes in the bar. Hope that helps, subscribed? Cheers, Andy

Right on Andy, thanks for this. ironically I am just about to pull my 066 apart and figure out why I can't go through a whole tank of oil per fuel tank, despite the oiler set to MAX.

HI. The oil pump on an 066 is similar to that found on an 026. The quill pump drive is the weak point and easily replaced. Check out the 026 repair series on my channel. There is a whole video on the oil pump. hope this helps. Andy

I used an impact wrench to remove the clutch nut. As mentioned in this video, the clutch nut is removed by turning clockwise.

I think that that sucction thing in the oil chamber is a valve and has a bullit in it. It's a one way valve . It's blocked. Pressure dont go. Vacum turns very slow to zero(Mityvac). The oil was white after 3 years now. I removed that thing, sludge was in it.

Hi, there us a course filter on the end of the oil pickup pipe, impossible to get to, clean it by swilling out the tank with something like paraffin or white spirit, cheers

Yes ok, the sift is out with guidance. You have that black plastic that is the sieve. The iron part is a bit rusty and there is brown stuff in it. When picking with a piece of copper wire I do not get caught in the black area, hidden? I hope it has no other than a weight to always sit in the liquid by gravity when tilting the tree saw.
