I'm proud of the U.S. competitor, and sad for Canada's. He did well all day. That said, I think that Kody Steers looks to be the future of this sport. I was very impressed with him throughout the entire competition.

I was wondering about the hardness of the logs and people upgrading their tools and using axes of their own preference, but I suppose it's like F1 where it is acceptable within reason. If a person has a PB on a small field or big field, it's still a PB.
@STIHLTIMBERSPORTS
@STIHLTIMBERSPORTS 25 күн бұрын
@@janieweyers6230 At TIMBERSPORTS®, PBs and world records are always recognized regardless of the type of wood used or its hardness and moisture content. These can vary from competition to competition, as wood is a natural product. Before each competition, athletes receive a test block, which allows them to select the most suitable axes in terms of sharpness and material. 🪓

I've always loved these event's but believe hot saw is not something a lumberjack would use in the woods. It's a hard event yes but swinging an axe, that's what it's about.

What do they mean by "after adjustment" further time?

@STIHLTIMBERSPORTS
@STIHLTIMBERSPORTS Ай бұрын
Actually, the time starts on the word 'GO,' not when the saw or axe touches the wood. This ensures consistent timing for all athletes across every competition. The time is initially stopped manually by the timers and then verified and adjusted through the Competition Control Center for complete accuracy.
@simonbarnard1861
@simonbarnard1861 Ай бұрын
No idea what ‘ how these adjustments work?!
@STIHLTIMBERSPORTS
@STIHLTIMBERSPORTS 25 күн бұрын
The first, unofficial time comes from manual timing taken directly when the wood is severed. This manual time is then validated immediately after the heat by a video judge using our video and timing system. Most of the time, it's adjusted slightly, and this becomes the official time for the athlete. 🪓

@STIHLTIMBERSPORTS You're timing to a hundredth of a second. Using a tone or bell to start would be much fairer to the contestants. Use some 20th century technology, for Pete's sake!
@STIHLTIMBERSPORTS
@STIHLTIMBERSPORTS 25 күн бұрын
@@picmanjoe Interesting point! What do you think is the difference between a bell and a 'GO'? Our starting cadence is directly linked to our video and timing system. The 'GO' serves as the signal for the athletes as well as the entire timing system behind the scenes.
@picmanjoe
@picmanjoe 25 күн бұрын
@@STIHLTIMBERSPORTS I think the difference is that a contestant can time the start of his first action with GO better than he could with a tone. If you're super good at timing your first action with the cadence and GO, you're golden. But if your timing is a little off, you may lose a few hundredths of a second, which could be the difference between winning and losing. Using READY, SET, TONE where the tone is NOT tied to a cadence would in my opinion provide a more accurate representation of the athlete's ability to perform the given event, not his ability to time his start with the cadence. I hope that makes sense. Anyway, thanks for listening!

It takes decades to grow a tree, seconds to cut it down. Do you see the problem?
@STIHLTIMBERSPORTS
@STIHLTIMBERSPORTS 25 күн бұрын
We use purposefully grown industrial wood for all our competitions. The trees we use are fast-growing poplar hybrids, ensuring sustainability. After each competition, the remaining wood is gathered and recycled, and for every tree felled, a new one is planted in its place. This approach helps us balance our impact and support the environment. 🌱
