I've been a fan from the very beginning of your Channel but one thing I would love so much for you to install is a strong fountain pump so that there is splashing water in the moat.😊

Hi,Phil. Things are coming along at your place. I like your idea to plant a Butterfly bush on the bank opposite of your kitchen door. There are several other small flowering trees and shrubs you can use as well. Lilacs( early, mid - and late season) privet( similar to lilac but can be grown and trimmed into a privacy hedge),various Spirea, Barberry or Quince ( thorns !!) Potentilla,Purple Leaf Sand Cherry,Yew,Roses, variegated Dogwood,Smoke bush, Rhododendron, Azalea, Honeysuckle, Mock Orange and Weigela...just to name a few. If you want to beautify the banks of the moat for the long term; use perennial creeping ground cover plants. They are short, pretty and easy to care for. When they move into your lawn; mow over them. You'll trim off the spent blossoms ,but not kill the plant ( Put edging around the bed to help keep them from the lawn...no guarantee that they will stay put...lol). Creeping Phlox is great because it forms a dense mat that helps keep grass, etc from growing there. Many colours to choose from. Ajuga, violets, Rock Cress,Artemisia, Campanula, Dianthus, Geranium and Thyme...possibly Verbena as well. Yellow Flag Iris can grow right into the waterline ,yet still be tame and non- toxic...will help clean your water( like cattails). You're spoiled for choices, but I wouldn't put creeping juniper, cedar or any vine like plants or ornamental grasses along the banks. HUGE pain in the butt to control. Suggestion.. try planting Violas( perennial) in your flower pots along your driveway. Cheap to buy, self seeds, small and varied in colours. If they don't work out well...meh! Try something different. You can always go buy a pretty annual to put in the pots. Regardless of what Hardiness Zone you live in; you still can have many different micro climates.... experiment until you get it right. 😁

Seeing all the light that now surronds the Chateau, an idea has come to me. Your moat has been an issue with the lack of movement in the water. I don't know if it would be feasible but what if you set up a few solar panels and used them to power a few water wheels. They would airate the water, and help with the water quality. As well the cost would likely be much less than setting up an airaition system that required masses of work and equipment to install. Just a thought.

It’s looking great Phil. Hydrangeas will look beautiful, Forsythia is a fabulous, low maintenance shrub that has beautiful yellow flowers on it in the spring, the only issue I have with the buddleia is the flowers go brown once flowered and don’t look that attractive, some people leave them but I feel obligated to cut them off 😂. You take care of yourself. K🇬🇧❤️

Hi Phil, everything looks super, a lot of strimming which makes a huge difference visually. It definitely looks like you will be working right down to your deadline, but I think that incentives to get on and do it! Been doing something similar in my own backyard and definitely the sense of achievement feels great 😊 Now I don’t have much more than a postage stamp but over half is at a 30 deg. angle so I can empathise with you 🥴 Q. What’s happening in the moat, is it vegetation or a bloom of some sort, just curious. Really enjoyed your ‘take over’ , good friends to have. All work and no play … Be safe and take care Judith 🦋

Things are looking great! One idea... instead of putting down weed fabric, use layers of cardboard instead. It prevents weed growth and naturally breaks down after a while. Weed cloth with mulch is fine, but after the mulch breaks down, the weeds start growing on top of the cloth so you end up pulling the whole mess out and doing it over. With cardboard you just lay more layers over the old and rematch. The card board lasts several years.. also you can get boxes for free from businesses etc.... so you save $$ too!

Rather than buddleia there, i would position it elsewhere. Because the entire bed totally in hydrangeas would be stunning. ✅ It seems to have enough light and shade to keep them going all summer. Even in fall they can turn green, and get a nice autumn Ruby or maroon highlight on the blooms. You’re really doing well! 👍
