Jan, I never made fried steak and gravy and my husband does not care for it. I watched your video several times then ordered the ingredients. I am partially disabled and have my market do the shopping from an online order. yestetday I felt better and cooked our meal. i followed your recipe and technique exactly. served with mashed potatoes and roasted vegetables. my husband kept popping in to see what smelled so good. but didn't tell him it was cubed steak. I served it up and we both loved it. so thankful I have leftovers. thank you for your shows. I look in on your channel every day like you are my neighbor. You amaze me. nothing fancy but always outstanding meals. hope you and your family are well and happy.

This is my grandma and mom's exact recipe that I've been using for years. I serve it over mashed potatoes or rice with a side veggie or salad. When I was young, my mom would ground up the steaks herself. Delicious meal, I make it for my husband and he loves it! So do our four granddaughters. Love you Jan.

I watched several "Steak and Gravy" videos and this is the first one i've seen where milk was used to make the gravy instead of water. Granny always used milk and that made it so good! She never did simmer it, especially for 2 hours cause there were nine of us kids and she wanted us fed and gone. Thanks for sharing!

Jan-Tendons are exactly what they are and as you know, only slow cooking can remedy this. Cube steak is round steak that has been run through a Cuber or Swissing machine. Many moons ago, Swiss steak or Cube steak cooked as you do with the addition of.onions and tomatoes, was thought to be a dish from the Swiss cookbooks. It was actually named after the process used to mechanically tenderize it...Swissing! Thanks for keeping the old-time recipes and techniques alive! Now...if we could get the old-time food quality back we would all be and feel better. Blessings from a fan in NC.

Why is cubed steak so good? It’s one of my favorite meals of all time, and I like a lot of different cuisines. Btw someone taught me to season the meat in the skillet (rather than putting salt and pepper in the flour), which is brilliant bc you use a lot less seasoning and the meat gets thoroughly covered. That aside, using leftover flour for gravy is also brilliant.
@walterrepass39575 жыл бұрын
I grew up eating this a couple times each month. My Mom's was delicious and not really different from Jan's. The brown bits or particles left in a frying pan or saute pan are called fond. They should always be incorporated into a gravy or sauce because they have a ton of flavor. The process of dislodging them is called deglazing the pan. Never ever waste the "fond."
