With the electric fence,make sure your batteries have a full charge. It is very important that the fence does not touch or lay on the ground or vegetation. Clear a path where the fence is. You can raise it a little whch will help. A fence that is touching vegetation loses its bite. It takes that path instead of giving a jolt to the pigs. Message us if you need any further help. I would advise to create several smaller sections with gates, then you can apply the rotational grazing method, and put them inside another section before they completely destroy the entire field. Then the electric fence will work better and that way the section that has been grazed can recover much faster and provide enough fodder for the next round of grazing. And it is also recommended to sow a mix of seeds in the old pig pen from whatever it is that they like to eat, or any other area after it has been grazed. Otherwise it will be hard to keep up with their appetite. You can google what the best mix of seeds would be. There are plenty examples. Clover, alfalfa, wheat, amaranth, rye, sugar beets, sunflowers, are just a few examples. There are many more plant species that are good for pigs.

Try Premier 1 fencing. They have fencing for all types of animals, they're square hot wires. You might also just want to try adding one or two more solar battery chargers around your current wires and maybe try getting a wire tester and save yourself from getting zapped. (Also mow the grass under the wires and about 12 inces each side of the fence so no branches or grass ground out the wiring.

Easy way to test stock fencing is to use a blade of grass, hold on the wire about 4 inches away with fingertips then slowly move them closer to the wire. The blade of grass acts like a reducer and reduces the shock to a tingle. 👍

Your roof is looking beautiful and im so glad that youve put in skylights too! Yes, pigs are escape artist, i guess because they are so smart! If you are using an electric fence to keep them penned in, the wires cannot touch any vegetation or it will ground the electric current. Have you thought about making a modular fence that could be moved from one area to the next? And shouldn't the children be doing some of the work around there? I grew up on a chicken farm with 10,000 chickens. As kids, my sisters and I had to feed the chickens and collect the eggs every day, as well as help with gardening, cooking, and cleaning!
@THESCOTTERS2 күн бұрын
Thank you! Yes I think that’s the main problem we need to clear around it 🤔 The children help a lot but they don’t get home from school till 5:30 and it’s already dark so they help out at the weekends at the moment ☺️

Your children are beautiful and very charming! But 5:30pm is pretty late! That is a long day at school! We would just love to see them more.
@chrisseaborn47392 күн бұрын
Many decades ago, too many lol. To test the fence I used a blade of grass, made damp, and used that against the live wire, you'll just feel a slight tingle. I'd be pretty certain these days there'd be a gadget to do the testing, but blades of grass are free. If the live wire is touching any vegetation it will short out. Once a naughty pig, always a naughty pig. It all depends why you have them in the first place, farming or pets. Love the show. Cheers from OZ.

Sorry to tell you but you will most likely need to get chain link fence to keep those pigs in. At least the one you call Scrumpy. Also prob need to add large stones or cement blocks all around perimeter to prevent digging under. Chain link can be pricey here in U.S., not sure about in your area, but only option is a rock or block wall, which is very labor intensive and also not cheap..good luck! Love ypur channel.

Pigs are so Houdinis! It was always so hard to keep the pigs in when we had them and to get them back in when they got out. This is what all the warnings were about. Those shocks can for sure shake you up for a while. I saw someone else post, with the electric fence you have to make sure it isn't touching anything else. That can be quite a process. Good luck! The roof is looking good.

wonder if you could use one of those shock dog collar's, you get one with a boundary marker, like an electric fence, but hidden and the shock come from the collar not the fence, so when the Dog/Pig go near the wire it triggers the collar.. Invisible boundary fence.. either that or harras fence panels like you see on building sites.. or last resort apple sauce?.. good luck..

Guys you can get electric fencer units that runs off the mains but if you got one don't test it with your hands because he's got one hell of a kick who will make you go quite dizzy but it won't kill the pigs, and try netting, and the pig most probably went through the fence because you have got a really long run and with battery powered fencer it's most probably got weak, a mains powered one won't, worth you looking into
@THESCOTTERS2 күн бұрын
Ok thank you for the advice unfortunately we don’t have mains so it’s going to have to be off solar but maybe I need a bigger battery? ⚡️🫣
