If you realize your worth and value, you and other women in your shoes would walk out those doors and leave. Why settle for immature men? You should pay more attention to the red flags. You can't expect excellent communication from anyone who is still in that mindset....It's like asking a cat to be a lion...If you desire a relationship with clear communication, raise your standards sweetie.

Either dismissive people or defensive responses automatically turn me off and disengage from the conversation. Then it becomes a argument on the basis of the relationship which doesnt address the issue. After I get to dealing with this enough times I dont even try to positive reinforce I am trying to help. Instead the drill sargeant in me comes out and now I will give them the ammunition they need to leave permanently. That way I have peace in the situation.

I agree..I m 37 ..and had a bf years ago for a short while..he d never dismiss anything..after that I keep meeting men who dismiss most of the stuff I say..and dont want to listen to details ..but then ill listen to subjects they bring..I keep them as friends only..I even had male friends in the past who didnt dismiss what I said. For example I ll be transparent and comment on what people say even if I dont agree..I had to try to explain myself to a new friend..and he wouldnt agree he understood what I meant..but he laughed..saying he doesnt know..but he laughed though.. recently a neighbour was chasing me..and he would talk about him a lot and not listen to me..im sick of anyone who dont give back what I give..I couldnt go out with a man like that though..

I literally just had this convo with someone. My thing is tho - it’s easier to say take a breathe pause wait - but in the moment, it’s really hard to listen accept and receive someone’s message and remain positive while someone is being dismissive towards you OR that person doesn’t want to accept what you’re saying OR you’re at a loss for words on how to articulate and express your thoughts and feelings. I feel like it take a great deal of self awareness and maturity to be able to communicate clearly and openly. Most ppl just aren’t there with it. Unfortunately.

Dismissing others is a way of being in control, of not needing to hear anyone else...in that way, all you get is more of your own ignorance and arrogance reflected back, unknowingly. We expand, grow, evolve, when we can be confident...yet also willing to learn, hold space for others, others opinions, without being so fragile that our go-to is dismissal. If we can calmly, confidently, clearly, state our boundaries, needs, and call out our own biases, cognitive distortions, and seek a greater global awareness...we grow, we become better. To be dismissive is to be fearful, controlling and not growing. It is a stagnant way to be. I hope for you that you are challenging the dismissing nature... if we dismiss others, it usually means we also dismiss ourselves in some way. That self dismissal is born of shame. Shame is the opposite of empathy. The key is to compassionately hold space for ourselves, realize we aren't perfect, accept that...and in that way, we become more authentic and increase our ability to connect to others too.

I agree 100% being dismissive will do more damage than you may even realize because of the resentment it breeds. That’s why your partner will randomly bring up that issue you thought was resolved not because of the issue itself but because of how you resolved it ie your tone, language, approach, etc it’s important to remember no relationship is a 100% perfect but effort will lead to progress and growth for you both: Thanks for sharing Stephan! ☺️

Passive aggressive people might still say “I understand what you’re saying” or “I acknowledge how you feel” in a dismissive way, because they know how they SHOULD respond but say these things in a cold way to put up an impression that they are dealing with you fairly even though they don’t care at all to know or really understand where you’re coming from , I’ve known people to add in a phrase or two like this and still be extremely dismissive and rude

Hey im not sure how to ask for advise from you (from email or your website) but i havent been able to find many videos covering this common problem in relationships. Me and my girlfriend (im a lesbian btw if that affects anything) started off in a friend group of 2 other girls and this year me and her started talking romantically. We really see a future together. It was going great until our 2 friends turned on me and are now trying to get her to break up with me. They dont have reasoning to it other than they think i may be racist (shes black and im white) ive never shown any signs of racism and i respect everybody no matter what. I dont want her to drop those friends but they are slowly starting to ruin our relationship and i feel like i can do nothing about it. Theyre trying to brainwash her into thinking that im a horrible person. I would do anything for this girl man. Shes amazing, beautiful, funny, intelligent, and more. I want to keep her in my life but lately it feels like im constantly having to prove to her that her friends are wrong. Ive talked to her about this a little bit, not about brainwashing and all, but ive reminded her that they are not part of our relationship and they have nearly no right to tell us what our relationship is like and what to do with it. But it doesnt seem to be working. Is there anything i can do? Sorry for the very long message but i trust your judgment

Everybody wants to communicate effectively until it’s time to do so. Shutting down on a person and being cold cut will never get far with having a successful relationship or friendship. Silent treatment and being dismissive is a manipulative tactic to use. People like this do not deserve your time, love , or respect.

This is very true and I have been practicing this a lot throughout my life. I know when I was in middle school and high school I was quick to defend myself, however, I have discovered to just listen to the other person. Take a breather and just listen and stop trying to fight to protect my own emotions and what I feel is right. Stop being in the rush to get the next word out. I have practiced this so much with my sister over the few years of just listening also because I am a student I have no choice but to listen to other people's opinions and I actually enjoy it. To be able to tap into another concept of how to see things or how other people see things are very interesting and a person can learn so much about a person just by listening. I look more so toward other people's opinions that I find myself asking other people questions to see what they think about things. It is very good to be open-minded however, you do not have to agree with that person and you can still keep your own opinion but just be willing to listen and at least understand the other person emotions. I believe this is why I get along with guy more than women because I am not an argumentive person and now I see why guys come to me for opinions a lot because I am willing to understand where they are coming from instead of attacking and belittling them. I also have been put in the situation of being bullied and not being heard this has allow me to put other people emotions first besides thinking about me me me and what I have to say. I also found this concept to work very well as a swim instructor putting other people comfort in place if someone does not feel comfortable with swimming I need to take steps back and see what step I miss or where they did not feel comfortable to understand that emotion and correct it. I love your videos thank you for always sharing,

Yup. Ignoring someones feelings is disrespectful. Period. Would someone disregard their boss because they were given an assignment they didn't agree with or attempt to come to a resolve that works for all parties or separate altogether?....the disappearing act is a manipulating witchcraft/mind game NEVER settle it'll only get worse

This video is absolute gold. I completely agree 100% Thing is, in my situation if I try to show my bf this, which most of the message I've tried to communicate w him. If I do, I'm 99.9% sure he'll still not see what he fails to do & won't see that he is completely invalidating & dismissive to almost everything I've said the past few weeks, on top of being physically distant. On top of just getting attitude out of nowhere, but will deny it most times. Nothing can be worked on or improved when ppl constantly play victim 😔 after 5 years of "I'll work on not being defensive & will be more understanding" he only does it for his kids, but still can't for me. Maybe after allllll day of us not talking he might own up to it, but will still justify it or trivialize it in some way bc to him "the things I get upset about aren't a big deal to him" and most of the time he finds it "ridiculous" and treats me & issue as exactly that, until hours later. I can't take the trivializing, dismissiveness, gaslighting, defensiveness, excuses, apologies only to randomly be disrespectful again then deny it. He only owns up to it 5% of time but usually it's stated as if it's something I caused

I hate when I feel like I'm being or have been dismissed....it's a HUGE trigger for me and I go straight into attack mode or shut down....I'm working on it because it's not healthy and now try to tell potential partners. I'm pretty sure I've also been dismissive to others in the past 😔

I was told I was being dismissive recently, but truth is, I didn't understand what they had meant until now. I have to admit, I have trouble with communication, so it causes a lot of conflict without me meaning too. I want to get better and learn to understand and not act dismissive. Thanks for sharing such important information! I never know what to do during some conversations!

my ex would constantly dismiss me in almost every conversation I’d try to engage in when it involved on solving our issues. .-. he’d always shut down and give me endless silent treatment. he never wanted to discuss anything in which led to our breakup. 😞 but he blames me for ending it and not analizing why I did it.

@stephanspeaks a lot of what you say sounds good. My question to you whole heartily with no disrespect is, you have A L L of this great relationship information, are you happily married? Or single? If single, even if you are happily single, why? It’s hard to go to a hair stylist who’s hair is unhealthy or always looks a mess. How can we... no how can I take what you say seriously if you’re just as single as I am?
