I personally am glad they are doing reissues. To be able to get figures I had as a kid and at an affordable price point is what is keeping me into collecting. Yeah I’d like to have the original, but it doesn’t mean any more or less to me what the date stamp is. It’s still fun to hunt vintage at theirs stores and flea markets, but I don’t see how anyone can justify paying some of the prices vintage goes for. I’m sure there is some kind of social acceptance aspect to it, even if someone says they don’t care what others think.

Its actually really, really simple. I bought turtles with my allowance in 1989. I PLAYED with them. My dog ATE them. My buddies and I BLASTED them with beebees. I knocked them around. Broke them. Lost their accessories. Tossed them off furniture. We DESTROYED those toys because we treated them as toys. Treated them as toys. Big point. Not as collector items. Not as things to put on a shelf. The junk that's available now at Target or Wally or wherever, are not toys. They're adult collectors items. Hence, they will never have value. Nothing made to be collected ever has value. If Golden age comics had been made to be collectible, Detective/Batman #1 would be worth like 10 bucks instead of 1.5 million. The new junk will never be valuable as a collectible or will it gain value. Vintage will have its ups and downs, but there is a finite supply. They're not making 1990 turtles anymore. Never will again. They're making new junk for the collectors market. You find an actual turtle from 1990, you've got a survivor. An original. That has value beyond dollars and cents. There's a satisfaction with finding/buying vintage that you don't get from grabbing something off the shelf at Wally when you stop to get cat litter.

Kids PLAY with toys. You're not a kid, so you're playing with these TMNT. They're in a box, or unboxed, on your display. So they're maybe not investments, but more collectibles? And collectibles should be at least vaguely considered for the "will this ever be worth something more than I paid"...The new stuff lost value the moment you left Target with them in your bag. The old stuff? We both know the answer to that. It might have ups and downs, but up is always the trend. I can enjoy the look of the old, and enjoy the return if I get sick of them or need the money.

I would argue that a new run of a figure coming out during the actual run of the line is not the same as a reissue 30 years later. I would call the same figure coming out during the life of the line as just "another run" of a figure that's popular. I would consider the current reissues their own line. But maybe I'm speaking just from the position of documentation. Regardless, I'm glad the reissues exist for the folks that want them. I've bought so many, and always question why I'm doing it since I have the vintage. 😂 What always interests me is when they do something NEW that fits in with the old. For instance, I loved the Mirage colored Shredder they did in that box set. What I'm very curious to see - will they reissue the figures that are expensive for collectors? Will people's heads explode if they reissue Scratch? 😂😂

I couldn't agree more. Now sure like you said some of these reissues are a bit wonky missing paint or whatever the case may be but man am I having a blast putting all these turtles I never had together. I absolutely love the matte finish on the figures that have them. I heard a lot of moaning and groaning about paint or reused parts since the molds are deteriorating but I rarely hear someone praise the matte finished being used (mainly for the turtle shells)... it's one of the first things I noticed on the turtles when this all started. I've been so impressed I've been buying one to play with and one to have boxed. Now were getting a Technodrome reissue... A FUCKING TECHNODROME GUYS. I had one as a kid and boy if they nail it there are going to be a lot of happy campers come release day... and for only $80 bucks. What a time to be a turtle fan, we've definitely been spoiled these last 5 years🥰 Cowabunga 🍕 🍕 🍕

@ToyAttics That's the link to buy. I didn't get in when it went live but I did order two and it's still up so you should be good. Had a technodrome when I was 4. Definitely my most memorable toy from that time just before Power Rangers hit. I hope this does well so we can get a Sewer Lair🤞

Had similar thoughts handling the recent Transformers Soundwave 40th anniversary reissue. Why would I buy a vintage one, when I'm getting a clean fresh from the pack experience for less money? I have a vintage one but he's missing everything and does not display well. I did not know they reissued Mutatin Beebop and Rocksteady! I paid quite a bit for a nearly complete rocksteady. And the reissue is only $15. I supose if you just care about experienceing the toy new and putting together a display affordably, reissues rock. But if you want an investment, or need the original figure for the nostalgia to activate. Then its not for you.

I kind of agree. I wish they would have used the correct box, but if you want the figure then you want the figure. $20 Boom. Done. I hope they keep rolling and release some of the figures I always wanted but didn't get and now can't afford, instead of the first couple waves that are a dime a dozen, anyway. Thanks for the vid.

I’ve been buying neca and super 7 trying to chase the high of walking into a toy shop as a kid and seeing a wall of turtles figures. Now they have started doing reissues, that’s all I need. I’m thinking of selling my entire collection if this continues

It’s the nostalgia feeling that I get from buying the turtles from 2003 not reissued. It’s hard at times, but I will rather spend the extra dollars than get them reissued and not have that nostalgia feeling. But it was nice seeing them on the shelfs again

I agree with you in terms of newer fans that didn’t get to grow with the line. However as someone who has grown with the line and owns all vintage to date, just missing accessories/filling in gaps…I’m 100% a vintage collector. Luckily I did so without breaking the bank. The reissues are more than what I ever paid and don’t bring that nostalgic feeling with Nickelodeon on the packaging. Plus the movie star turtles and the giants reissues weren’t exactly stellar (wrong colors, incorrect weapons, smaller and lazy, etc.). I have also noticed a lot of the reissues get clearanced out, as though Playmates is making too many or fans solely want vintage or something new. I truly wish Playmates would offer all the stuff that never got released, but got as far as a prototype stage. A plus side to reissues for me is more foot soldiers. I can’t get enough.

@@ToyAttics I personally don’t like the weapons or off colors. I guess others agree because I purchased the newer released variants for $10 total, which included Splinter and Shredder (Playmates mirage style). People like what they like, but the newer ones will never ever garner the value that the vintage line has. The only variants I’ve seen skyrocket are the older black belt storage shells and the movie star with neon color weapon re-releases, which I thankfully secured for way less than what people are currently asking.

I'm spoiled. I still have all of my vintage TMNT toys that I collected and played with as a kid. Now they sit waiting to be displayed. The only vintage toy I plan on buying is an OG Japanese Takatonku Macross Roy Focker VF-1S Super Valkyrie. It's something I've always wanted and hope to buy next time I visit Tokyo.

I could never buy vintage. Not with how consistent playmates are with reissues. There are some weight differences I’ve found with the og TMNT line but they display perfect and people who see my display don’t know or even ask. It’s consumer friendly too bc vintage re-sellers have a harder time bleeding people dry for nostalgia.

@@ToyAttics I just went for the core set. Or what I consider the core set. So The 4 bros, april, shredder and splinter. It’s always a rabbit hole. I was all over the place at one point. Mirage, reissue, last ronin, mutant mayhem. I’ve had to streamline to just MM and Mirage now. I love the idea of just Leo, you’ve committed and it’s payed off and I think I’ve found my groove now!

I had zero desire for the ninja fig in the video but that fired off a signal in my brain that just for a moment, I genuinely thought, I need that 😂 but ima stay focused!!

There’s something to be said for preserving the vintage originals mint on card/ package. Not everybody can afford it, so pick the ones you really like. But if you just like the look of the vintage packaging, sure buy the reissues.

It comes down to personal choice. Lame answer, i know. I had my original turtles and a few other gems and then their were the items that were lost to time… and didn’t not, at that time, have reissues, so, go after vintage. Now, I’ll be honest, some f the reissue shave less deco than the vintage and that’s a downer. So, i’ve stuck with vintage because it’s actually easier to find being here in australia. We gets three fifths of F**king nothing distributed here

your clickbait video title worked! ;) imo reissues are cool.. but for me, I rarely get rid of my original toys (tmnt or others) in favour of the new ones.. since for me, of course the latest new and shiny will have (or ideally have) better sculpt, action feature, packaging, etc, but it will never have my childhood memories (mostly positive ;), only my adult memory of buying it, and usually it's such an easy process of buying , rarely anything 'memorable'~

2 figures with slightly different paint / weapon colours - both issued during 1993 in the same packaging - are not original / reissue - they're variations! On the wider subject of reissues, it's slightly disappointing when you have the originals, especially when you've shelled out (!!!!) on the collectors market, and the "rug" is pulled from under you. I've had my collection (400+ moc / mib figures) since new so I'm still "in profit" but these reissues may severely impact my choice of retirement home. That and the 27 toy manufacturers currently knocking out new TMNT stuff!

I didn't - I was into the Mirage comics before the TV cartoon and just collected the toys as they were released. They've sat in the loft for decades until recently when I started watching collectors on KZbin and seeing some of the newer Neca / Super7 releases.....
