Love this Video! I calorie counted for years, because if I increased my caloric intake at all I'd gain back weight. Even with tons of running or consistent weight training, I'd gain back a lot of weight while still being extremely active. Carnivore with Fruit has worked best thus far. My magnesium levels seem to be higher so I don't have cramps. Plus, I've lost weight, maintained weight all while being moderately active and consistent. 💯

Honestly, for me it’s not been that hard at all to stick to strict on an off fasting schedules and only eating real food. It’s been effortless to get 10 pounds off, while not increasing my normal amount of lifting. I eat full meals when I eat, and I don’t eat snacks. Yes I still drink alcohol, but fit it into my fasting schedules.

Calories in vs calories out works with the caveat of obtaining calories from unprocessed whole foods and a healthy exercise routine. Find nutrient dense whole foods you enjoy and a mixture of resistance exercises/cardio that you enjoy; enjoyment = sustainability and consistence. It's not that difficult.

I have spent the last 20 years experimenting with diet. I have been vegan, carnivore, etc. I always tracked my calories daily and without fail. No matter what I was eating the calorie model worked. If I wanted to loose weight, I would reduce my calories by the predicted amount and reach and maintain that weight. if I wanted to gain weight, I would increase my calories by the predicted amount and reach and maintain that weight. Noting you have to make allowance that when lean mass decreases or increases so does your metabolic rate. The only thing I ever noticed was that improving the quality of food improve satiation when trying to reduce calories and improved overall health. For experimental purposes I did have large period where I ate a lot of process foods (for periods of 6-12 months) and the results did not change using the calorie model. I am not promoting the calorie model and I feel I have wasted a lot of precious time counting calories and I no longer count calories. These days I just focus on trying to eating whole foods that I enjoy eating not focusing on any specific diets. Eat slightly less to loose weight or slightly more to gain weight. I still enjoy processed foods on social occasions.

Lucky for you. Once I hit ~18% body fat, my body will fight tooth and nail to prevent further loss. Can’t sleep, no energy to exercise, hunger, irritability … etc. much better on high fat adequate protein carnivore vs other diets though.

@@richcollinsyt Great to hear you found what works for you. I have read and seen so many success stories with people reducing weight and improving health by making changes whether it is changing to the vegan or carnivore, etc. My interest lies in whether it is just the caloric deficit and nutritional density and the ability of the diet to assist in long term maintenance that accounts for reducing in weight and improvements in health. It’s great that we can all share experiences and learn from one another. I would be interested in your case how carnivore affected your average caloric and nutritional intake. At the moment I don’t restrict myself to any one diet and don’t count calories but I am constantly making changes based on experiences. What I have notices that when not counting calories eating whole foods, whether meat, vegetable, fruit, nuts or grains makes it easier to maintain weight than eating process food and I think a lot of that simply comes down to foods with the combination of added fat and sugar are simply calorie dense.

I spent DECADES following the Dietary Guidelines-guided "Calories In/Calories Out/Portion Control/"Diet & Exercise"/Energy Balance" model for fitness and yet I was constantly "Yo-Yo"ing in and out of shape my whole life with the best fitness level I was able to achieve getting worse and worse as I aged. Despite my best efforts, I ended up obese, hypertensive, and I got a pulmonary embolus in October 2017 at age 52. I did EVERYTHING right (at least according to what nutrition experts tell us to do) yet ended up with a crappy health outcome. Then in early 2018, I started an animal-based/Low Carb-High Fat/Time Restricted Feeding lifestyle with THREE primary goals in mind: 1) Have my body secrete less insulin; 2) Have my body secrete insulin less often; and 3) consume ONLY "REAL" fat (almost entirely animal fat, and mostly from red meat) and avoid all high PUFA plant-based oils like the plague. I NEVER count calories, NEVER do any kind of "portion control", and while I have exercised regularly my whole life, these days I NEVER try to lose fat by "working it off". My main rule is to ALWAYS eat until I'm full, and then stop eating until it's time for me to eat again (typically the next day, sometimes 48 - 72 hours later). Through a series of self-administered and monitored diet elimination trials, I ended up being the "Low Meal Frequency Carnivore" I am today. The result: By November 2019, I had become more leanly muscular at age 54 than I had EVER been the rest of my life, I gradually put on over 20 pounds of muscle over the next 18 months, and I have NEVER been "out of shape" in the last 3 years, something I was never able to achieve even when I was a young man (no more "Yo-Yo" in fitness). And it's not just physical fitness, but metabolic and immunologic fitness as well. I'm normotensive, insulin-sensitive, with low serum triglycerides, high HDL, and no excess belly fat (waist to height ratio = 0.42; it used to be 0.53). I never get colds/flu/sore throat anymore. My joints never hurt anymore. My skin never get rashes and does not burn from sun exposure, which has allowed me to naturally raise and then maintain a normal serum vitamin D level without supplementation. Now at age 57, I take ZERO medications or supplements. I haven't taken even a single ibuprofen tablet in the last 3 years, after many years of popping Advil for my formerly aching knees and lower back. Just eating in a human evolutionarily-consistent manner has turned me into a virtual comic book superhero compared to what I was when I followed the plant-based Dietary Guidelines. So listen to folks like Dr. Saladino. I KNOW firsthand that he speaks the truth!

The Warrior diet is the best fasting strategy for weight loss. This is the way the Spartans used to eat. Under eating during the day and feasting at night. You eat small amounts of fruit during the day and feast on meat at night. The trick is to eat enough protein and fat on your dinner meal to help fuel you for the next 24 hours the next day. In the morning for breakfast eat fruit and for lunch also eat fruits or you can do small snacks during the day if you are not active. If you are going to work out then carb load on fruits. Technically you are still running on fat and carbs because fat takes long to finish digesting, about 24 hours. If you don't over do the calories and you exercise you will lose weight faster and healthier on this than on Carnivore. This is the diet that got me to my lowest weight. Went from 250 down to 205 pounds under 10 percent body fat. Listen to Paul Saladino meat and fruit is the best diet hands down.

Does anyone know if there's a video where Paul covers the topic of modern cultivated fruit vs wild fruit? It's been said that most of the fruits we have available to eat were created over many years of human cultivation and it wouldn't necessarily have an equal to be found in the wild. I'm just curious what people make of that since we are trying to base our ideal diet and health off of our evolutionary past. And in comparing wild fruit to cultivated fruit, what differences might be found? Less fructose in the wild variety maybe?

No offense but is this a joke? This is horrible for you, both physically and mentally. You will crash your hormones and metabolism, and end up losing muscle, especially since you’re eating no protein. You might lose a bit of fat but it’s gonna come back when you’re off of this diet, because your body is now in starvation mode and stores as much fat as possible. Plus, you’re breaking your fast with mayo, which is full of seed oils and is a really bad way to break your fast. Same goes for Spam, which is incredibly bad for you since it’s processed. If you’re gonna do this diet, you should be breaking your fast with maybe some grass fed steak and an organic apple (just an example).

Stop eating lots of carbs, fructose (fattening you even at caloric deficit) and overeating salt,. All these spike uric acid and decouples mitochondria. You literally shorten your lifespan. A bit salt is needed and very good before exercise - it increases blood volume decreasing hearts need for oxygen. Its important to know what to do when. Body works in cycles. You need to stress it a bit and give it time to recover. Also synced with circadian rhythm.

I do count cals and macros. I am doing a weight loss body recomp. I'm doing omnivore keto, a mix of dirty and lazy keto. My goal Cal amount is just over 1500 which is a moderate deficit, but I'm often over enough to be over 1600 cals by going over on my protein macros which is set for 98g. I've gone over on protien by as much as 50-60 g some days. My hard limits I try to stay under are fat and carbs. Today I would be just under the 1500 mark on cals, but over on protien a bit under on fat and carbs. I did include one refined carb as part of y second and final meal by having one slice of refined white bread. But the rest was canned tuna, home made kimchi, home made lacto fermented alvacado oil Mayo, 1 cup of arugala with 1/4 cup of onion cooked in water and seasonings, and 2 baked bone in pork ribs. So, about 6 oz of pork. My breakfast was all veg, meat, and cheese with coffee that had 2 tbsp whole milk included. My carb limut is 35g btw, and lower is a no go because it sends me to the hospital. I'm hypoglcemic because of hashimotoes, so I restrict but I can't restrict too far. Honestly I fkux between dirty and ckean keto meals, but mostly do ckean keto. And my wirkouts mostky consist of walking. Most times it's a almost hour walk around the neighborhood, but some days I opt to do a 2.5 mile loop at the local gike and bike trail with some long slightly sloping hills as a challenge. That takes a minimum of 2 hrs, though it's taken up to 4 if tge tx heat causes too many pit stops to hydrate and dump water over my head. It's not something I do every-day because I don't have tge stamina, but it's a nice change of pace now and then to push myself.

And even grab and go takes time with me because I rely on the bus fir transportation and I'm in tx. If I don't have enough liquids in summer including sone to dump over my head it would be bad, and in winter I need plenty of hot liquids to keep warm. @@Kasher18 so I never got an answer back from this but I just played it safe. I’m still trying to burn fat at the moment cause I’m at around 24% body fat so I found keto/carnivore is better for me at the moment cause I feel animal based would be more of a maintenance type of diet after you lose all your weight I/E making it harder to burn existing fat you have. So I been just testing the waters and checking my ketone levels when I ate certain things. I found if I ate for example, steak and eggs for breakfast and steak for dinner no other carbs, well I’ll add a cup of kefir with a couple berries and a little swig of honey so I can still get my calcium from kefir, antioxidants from berries and enzymes from honey, and that totaled around 30g of net carbs which will have me right at the line (keep under 50g to stay in ketosis), but I also worked out in the gym hard so I was safe even if I had more carbs. It’s really just what works for you but I just been playing safe until I lose all my fat and go straight animal based for maintenance. Hopefully this helped you as well and keep killing it! 💪🏽🙏🏽

At the end of day, you can practice all these principles and it still comes down to genetics. We could all practice the same eating, sleeping, and movement regimens but our bodies will respond differently based on our genetics. Some of us will just never be as lean as others. BUT with that being said, I definitely believe that diet is a major factor in trying to overcome that. Crap eating will never get you good, long term results no matter how much you workout. Bottom line is people have to stop eating the crappy Standard American Diet.

I disagree here, I think if most people started counting calories they would become way more aware of the calorie content of the various foods they eat. While I think that it is very important to eat quality foods, I think pushing people away from the calorie deficit makes weight loss confusing to people who don't want to go all in on learning nutrition. Also more important than eating less, people should eat low calorie dense foods so they can still be full and satiated.
@C.oleCarson
@C.oleCarson 2 жыл бұрын
@Roger Vieira I agree with that as it is the easiest way to eat healthy and for weight loss. But my main thing is making it clear to people that the only way to lose weight is to be in a calorie deficit. There are many different versions of what is a healthy diet going around confusing people and this is why 1 in 8 people can't lose weight.
@C.oleCarson
@C.oleCarson 2 жыл бұрын
@Roger Vieira exactly, whole foods overlap in all of the considered healthy diets. I just think that starting at a calorie deficit can actually help some people see progress soon without too much lifestyle change. Then when they start seeing the progress they make off that they can start to shift their eating to also healthier

i can lose body fat even without using body fat as an energy source. i can do this just by simply not drinking anything. this goes outside the theory of calories in calories out(CICO). CICO is not a good theory. calories are NOT an appropriate measure of the realistic energy we get from food. calories were measured by combusting the macros in a calorimeter. that is NOT what your body does with food. CICO fails to take into account actual energy uptake and usage, nutrients, toxicity, hormons, macro combinations and many other things. health is more than just CICO. if you want to put yourself into an energy deficit, then that is what you do. if you want to go on a surplus, then an energy surplus is exactly what you do. energy in our bodies are NOT the same as calories. an energy deficit is not a calorie deficit. also, there are many ways to lose body fat even without using fat as an energy source. this is completely outside the realms of CICO. you can lose body fat by detoxing, producing metabolic water, using fat as a structural component, or choppng of your leg. it is well known that calorie restriction results in temporary weight loss, but in the long term it doesnt. you also suffer from significant hunger and other health issues. you will feel awful. bodybuilders experience these things when cutting down to very low body fat percentages. your basal metabolic rate goes down when calorie restricting. on the other hand, if you do proper energy restriction, while eating a species appropriate diet, you will eventually lose body fat without feeling awful.

What's he's basically ignoring is the fact that there's people out there especially chronically ill people who have damaged mitochondria. What is a burden for damaged mitochondria? Carbs consumption. Berries are your way to go in this case. But other fruit like bananas, things like raw milk, dates , dried prunes. Those things will fuck with your reward system and you will eventually binge eate like with candy and cookies. This is my experience. If you keep the carbs below 50g daily, you simply don't overconsume calories because of the appetite suppression effect. This makes it waaaaay easier to do 24-72h fasts which bump up your natural human growth hormone. Carbs are super tricky

You’re also simplifying people who are using CICO. Forget biggest loser and think about the average person who sets out to lose weight. What makes you think they’re only eating pop tarts? Anyone who has used CICO to keep off weight long term knows that food quality matters for satiety. Also no need to vilify cardio. Yes muscle mass improves metabolic health, but any form of exercise will put stress on skeletal muscle tissue. We should be stressing overall activity and avoiding the sedentary lifestyles that have destroyed the health of this nation.
