Many of us have full confidence in the forehand return and dread when they start targeting our backhand. In this video I give a full breakdown of how to comfortably and reliably make backhand returns and stay out of trouble at the same time. HAVE FUN😁

I always thought the full swing 1hbh cross-court return is the hardest stroke to master; especially in double! (I know, I am not ATP level 😂). Which comes for me to suggest as part II; if I may, for you to provide a demonstration of that, it would be a delight. And I am pretty sure it would be an instant hit as you’d be the first (and a rare coach capable) to provide that teaching! All the best!

one of my many problems is getting out of way of body serves. The first issue is deciding to take it with a backhand or forehand, and then deciding whether it's better to keep moving forward, slide sideways or try to take a step back to create more time for the return. Thanks for any help. Your videos are the best I've seen online: very good explanations with effective demos. Thanks.

Man - again a sweet lesson from you. Great content. You have this ability to bring it to a simple point. BTW - just now sent you a comment based on what you think it the single most important element for the single handed backhand to work well. I am not talking return here but in general. My answer to it would be contact point and getting underneath the ball. But like to hear what your view on it is.

I really like the idea of a progression when playing a match: chip, slice, block, swing. A bit like your previous video about strategy, it's a nice game plan to have as a returner. Regarding the backhand: could you do a video about handing high 1H backhands? Maybe something that combines the "mental image" that we should have hitting that high backhand combined with the specific technique? Thanks for your awesome but easy to digest content.

Awesome lesson coach. Thanks for going the extra mile and including all the small details! This is a bit on a tangent, but could you add a lesson on how to defend balls that are hit to my one handed backhand with great depth with pace and/or spin? Between returns with the one handed backhand and playing defense, its made me want to switch back to a 2hbh, but hitting clean one handers feels so good. 😭 Will try this out in some practice matches this weekend. :)

Hi coach great lesson ! Quick question - is that a Yonex vcore 98 v7 you are using? I use a blade v8 98 16x19 and was thinking whether a more stable feeling racquet will be better for me, i have a one hander and want to build up by returns as a sharp offensive return. I will of course demo several racquets, just wanted to know your thoughts on this one.

Thanks Will, backhand return is definitely my biggest weakness, and definitely learn a lot from this video. Got a question on your racquet tho, I am using the Vcore 95 2023, is it the same racquet you got? I find it not too stable with doing return, I am just wondering do you customise your racquet in any way? I am thinking of adding leads on 3 and 9 o'clock, but not sure what weight I should put on. If you have similar customisation, I might start with yours for an easy start.
@ironwilltennis
@ironwilltennis 4 ай бұрын
yes I was using the vcore 95 in this video. I was using the previous generation though. but yes I found the same issue. and I did 2 modifications. 1 I added a leather grip which does and some weight to the handle but also gives a more locked in grip in my opinion. and I added a very specific lead tape. which I'll send you the link for. these are a little heavier but they are uniform weight so it is easy to repeat on another racquet if you like www.tennis-warehouse.com/Pete_Sampras_Power_Strips/descpageUNIQUE-PSSW.html
