Reselling has always been finding valuable items for cheap, whether it's a thrift store or auctions. That's literally why resale shops exist. What you're talking about is a yard sale. Which resellers also go to. If I'm at a thrift store looking for clothes and find a Coach purse for ten bucks, I'm 100% reselling it to pay my bills. Only gonna make 20 or 30 bucks on it anyway, someone else will still get it for a steal.

Reseller's are not the cause as they're not putting financial pressure on Goodwill. The company get's its product for free, taking away the majority of what would normally be immense buisness expense. The low cost of product procurement comparatively to other retail stores, lowers the amount of which goodwill must charge to collect a decent profit. For example, a Goodwill can afford to sell a donated Macbook Pro for 100$, but an Apple Store, or even Factory, cannot, as the store and factory spent immense time, money, and resources manufactoring such an item, whilst Goodwill got it for free. Ultimately, the act of reselling won't drive up prices. The reason why is because it isn't effecting Goodwill's buisness expenditures, thereby necessitating an increase in price. You can argue that reseller's are providing competition, but Goodwill has the massive advantage of not needing to pay for their products, which gives them the ability to massively (At least comparatively) undercut those reseller's. And that is not even mentioning the massive Brand Recognition, Consumer Trust (At least comparatively), and tax breaks that Goodwill gets, unlike Reseller's. All in all, the price increase is not due to Reseller's; they're a scapegoat. It is ultimately Goodwill realizing what they have, and attempting to sell such at Retail Value, in order to maximize profits, irregardless of the wishes and whims of their target audience and customers.
