My husband and I got a GSD puppy last April, she is now 1 year old. We watched all of your videos before we got her. She bit me ONE time when we first got her and I used this technique and I am not kidding she NEVER bit me again! We also NEVER played with our hands like most puppy owners do.. we always redirected with toys. People would come over and try to play with their hands and she would go pick up a toy! We’ve tried every way of stopping our now 13 week old male Shepherd from biting us and all EVERYTHING does is makes him more hyper and makes him bite us more. There has to be a way that actually works. We’ve had him since 8 weeks and he’s just not stopping the biting at all! The more loud or firm we are the more he does it. Zero submission!

I know it’s rough but just have more patience. It will take many more weeks. Puppies are like toddlers with adhd. They need a lot of time and rigorous training to reach full potential. What’s working for my pup is saying no immaculately firm. Giving a gutteral “ugh-uh!” And shoving him off of me. Not hard, any violent actions cause distrust. Don’t praise your puppy for stopping. He will only get hyper again. When the pup quits biting, you will quit saying no and that’s how we will learn.

@@raymondgato4343 I would love to track progress with you. We have a 17 week old and have been using the pin technique for a while, and it seems there are waves of effectiveness with peaks and lows. Ours is currently still gnawing albeit very gently but she still gets us occasionally (I have the scars to prove it), it's never aggressive so we're still trying to keep our patience.

Jairid I will say that it varies from pup to pup. I know of pups who their biting phase lasts a month and are very gentle and calm but some have more intense urges, more hyper. I’m comfortable saying my pup has more intense urges when it comes biting. When he hit that 3 month mark, it was unbearable and I was going insane. VERY frustrating but now he’s slowly getting better. He has stopped biting ankles, toes are becoming less interesting to him and now and then, he still lunges at my hands when I’m petting him but when he does, I take my hand away and stop petting until he stops paying attention to my hand and then I continue to pet him and show affection. He throws tantrums here and there, no aggression or growling, when I firmly say “no bite” because he knows what that means. They’re like teenagers, they do what they want to do. So I guess what I can tell you is be persistent, never let a moment pass where he gets away with biting, also reward when you can. Something I do is hold a treat in one hand and with the other, I pet him. If he ignores your petting hand, reward. Do this any chance you get. I usually resort to the pinning down if he doesn’t obey to “no bite” and/or his biting becomes unbearable. I pin him down till he’s calm. If you let go and he lunges back at you, quickly grab him back. Repeat this every time he lunges at you and pin him down longer than the last time. But again, every pup is unique so you might need to do some tweaks here and there in the training process so it can work for your pup. Oh and remember that a tired pup is a good pup so also think about if he/she is getting enough exercise. Lack of exercise can also lead to intense biting and other unwanted habits. Sorry I wrote a lot, I guess I have a lot to say since I know how frustrating and exhausting it can be in this puppy biting phase lol

Same experience. I don't think this works with every dog, it made my dog worse as well. We switched to ignoring him/leaving room when he gets too rough and train constantly with yummy treats(we hold a treat in front of his nose inside oir fist while saying "no bite" and giving him the treat after 10-15 secs, and we say "good boy, good boy treat!" and sneak in some loves while his mouth is busy with the treat😂). We also provide him plenty of chews/high quality toys. It's helped tremendously.

Here's a tip. If you can't get your dog to stop biting you, try this. Whenever they come to bite you, when your hand is pretty much in their mouth, shove your hand towards their throat. (Not hard, but a little bit of force). This will almost make them choke and they do not like this AT ALL. I did this to my GSD and it works very very well.

On my Cummins Ram Truck the gear shifter was all mangled up because my boxer Mack chewed on it when he was a puppy. I had that truck for a long, long, time. Mack passed away from cancer, gone too early☹☹. I never changed that shifter, because it always reminded me of him. Gosh, I miss him, may he rest in peace! He never really chewed on anything else. My wife always told me he was just trying to drive the truck, like his dad😢😢.

So pretty much what you do is you spray this stuff on things either you don't want you dog to chew on or things that they chew on frequently that they aren't suppose to. You can also spray it on your hands if they are mouthy. I one time was pet sitting a unneutered dog and he was biting, and licking my girl dogs (both spayed) so we sprayed that on them and he stopped right away.

My 3 month old Germans Shepard sometimes gets more over stimulated when I do that. So when I let go she will come back with a more biting fury. Any suggestions?

The key is to hold until they are STILL...still tail, head, feet. Still. That is what I have observed their Mother's doing over many years. If it works for Nature, it is what I do.......GSM

If I do this to my new German Shepherd who's also 9 weeks old, would this make them more aggressive towards me or to others? Redirection and vocal realization is still new to her and she is new to us as well, so when is a good time to use this technique?

GSM, Malice has turned ten weeks old today and we have stopped the puppy biting. Holding her down has worked. I got her at eight weeks and started as soon as I watched this. At 12 weeks Malice is going to the trainer to learn tracking and cadaver detection. She will be there two weeks and home for two weeks. This will go through July and we will finish with protection. I just got myself a German Shepherd about a week ago and I named him Diesel. He’s gona be 8 weeks in 2 days and he’s been biting me non stop. I’ve been trying to figure out how to make him stop and I hope this video will help me out and teach him to stop biting.

This technique works not only for biting but other things as well. I have a 5 yr old male GS and recently got 2 male GS puppies that are now 5 months old. This technique is how I got the puppies to stop biting. It works good

I used to pin my gsd down when he used to nip us... And I swear he's double jointed because he used to spin his head round like an owl and bite my hand... My best friend's daughter did some training with him... He's 15 months old now and such a sweet gentle boy... They are a very high energy and very high maintenance dog... Not for first time dog owners... I also have a st Bernard who was terrorised by the gsd and had a nasty abscess on his front knee joint that persisted and kept popping for 5 months... In the end I did have to muzzle him for about 6 weeks but now he is a great boy...

My 12 weeks GSD’s been biting my hands, arms, foot and legs all the times although she shows me signs of affection. I tried everything: saying no, hiding in my room, water spray, bitter water spray, toys, carrots, put her in her cage... I will try this method before I bring her to a dog training...

We have a 9 weeks male GS puppy. When he tries to bite me I redirect him by saying “Nooo, Nooo” he stops then if I approach my hand he might take another try. I would like to believe that he’s improving but he’s disciplined with me. When it comes to other family members he tortured them. I will try this pinning technique to make it better

I used this method on my Shepherd when he was a puppy and it took two times. He was a Landshark big time, a couple times I thought I was gonna have to have stitches. First time he fought it and I just said aaah and a firm no, he finally settled and I said ok and let him up. The second time he immediately stopped and I said OK and let him up. Never had a problem with biting again and he’s 3 1/2 now.
